Got to side with @Kastor Krieg on this one; while I'm 100% sure the intentions of @Brother Tyler etc are perfectly reasonable and that the content they want to republish is only for promotional purposes, the actual text of the terms around licensing feels too broad in scope.

 

The amendment proposed by @NovemberIX seems like it would still allow the B&C to do what it wishes with the content they want the license for, while also protecting against potential future misuse. Seems an easy change and win for everyone, no?

No, they are acting like the new terms allow the B&C to do that, which they do seem to. 

 

I think we are all in agreement that the current B&C management will not do anything of the kind, but this offers no protection against changes of ownership in the future and people who may choose to try and monetise the content they have inherited these licenses for.

I'm pretty sure Krieg's idea was actually "you need to change this area of the terms because otherwise under specific regional laws, you have to pay people for this license you're claiming". I don't think anybody here is realistically claiming that they deserve an income for posting fanfic or painted minis on this forum.

We are discussing our options for revising the current wording of the Terms of Use to ensure that the concerns and needs of all stakeholders are addressed. When we have revised the Terms of Use, all members will once again have to agree to them before they will be able to participate at the site; and anyone that doesn't agree to the Terms should notify me so that I can take any necessary action.

 

While there are reasonable concerns, there has been far too much bickering (which I have removed). I'm locking the topic temporarily while we discuss our options and will unlock it once we have revised the Terms of Use.
