ZeroWolf
Well, that was a longer break than I expected! What have I done in my absence? Well, these blue boys are all done now! Bladeguard Veterans and Bladeguard Ancient Bladeguard style Captain and Primaris Lieutenant (also Bladeguard style) Assault Intercessors (mix of Indomitus box sprue and painting set three) Now, these are only technically finished in the sense I'm done painting them (aside base rims). There's definitely more I could do, like the little shields for heraldry. While they are ready for the battlefield, I turned my attention to these guys: I'm only a few months late from when i originally wanted to have these guys done! Hopefully it won't be months till they're done... ZeroWolf
Slight update, the Terminators now have silver! Despite painting for over an hour I didn't seem to get a lot done but a new figure has appeared on the worktop... Okay, so he's not completely new (got him off ebay back in spring) but I thought it was only appropriate to finally get him painted up as I was painting the Terminators. Also, my skills of observation failed as I thought he was complete but nope! He's missing his sword in scabbard. Only took me 8 months to notice that... I touched up the blue in places and didn the silver on him as well (wasn't in many places). ZeroWolf
I'm not doing too well on these updates Terminators are still the order of the day and I'm attempting something here with the details that are going to be white and gold. I started with a dark grey and then relayed with successively lighter shades. Once these are white, I'll apply a gold over those bits destined to be shiny. In the mean time I've also been tackling over parts like the purity seals and prepping the dead Screamer Killer. Finecast Calgar is continuing apace with the other Terminators though you can tell i ran out of light grey paint on him a little bit of the way through! closer look. Sargent with power sword. Next time I come to these, hopefully I'll get onto a coat of white, and if I'm lucky, a coat of red for Calgar and the captain for their fine capes. ZeroWolf
A quick update as this session was more about finishing the light grey on Calgar and giving a 2nd coat to everyone else. However, I saw it was time to finally give a dash of colour to Calgar and the Terminator Captain: Still feels like i've got a lot left to do! dees and Firedrake Cordova 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378169-zerowolfs-painting-trials/page/8/#findComment-6015937 Share on other sites
ZeroWolf
The terminators have gone gold! (Well the bits on them that are supposed to be gold!) Also remembered that the Sargent is supposed to have a red helmet...silly me. The terminators captain shoulder pad gave me an issue as I thought I'd cleaned the brush enough, only to discover that I wasn't painting white...I was painting a very pale pink. That was fun to sort out! Next stage for these chaps is clean up before it's wash time. We'll, apart from the captain, calgar and the Librarian, they need a couple of extra steps which I'm tackling tonight. I'm also thinking forward to the highlights stage and wondering if I really need to do edge highlights as I've not been too impressed with my efforts thus far but I'm worried they'll look too plain without it. ZeroWolf
Small update as I may of made another mistake...I'm trying a little free handing The Librarian also got his book and cables painted and everyone got a 2nd coat of gold. Also have two normal Terminators cleaned up, ready for washs. at this rate, I might get them done by February (Don't count on it!) Sadly it's the resin one, which I only discovered after it arrived. I've always loved the sculpt though, but never got it back in the day. Need to track down the honour guard he came with. Brother Christopher
That's a really cool project. I like the pace and stream of updates. I'm curious as to see the result. Also, Calgard doesn't seem to be that much out of place next to the upscaled Termies. But the difference in aesthetics/design philosophy is quite apparent. I also liked the Tyranid side of things. I've been tempted to give some bugs a try myself. I also liked the Tyranid side of things. I've been tempted to give some bugs a try myself. I'm quite eager to jump back to my Tyranids, but I made a promise to the powers that be (my wife) that I'd get more grey plastic painted first Thanks for the kind words though. I've thought that myself regarding calgar's scale, the only issues really when you get up close and notice the proportions on him compared to the new kits. He looks good with the group though. One of my favourite things about this version is the pose, going in ready to smash someone/something. Gravis Calgar is nice and all (only realised recently that they seem to have taken inspiration from the 2nd/3rd edition model) but I prefer the action pose. Haven't had much chance to get painting done this week but I made the time count last night: Terminator Librarian, Terminator Captain, Terminator Calgar Another angle of Terminator Librarian Terminator Squad A look at the other two members of the squad. I'm happy with things at this stage and I've got the highlights left, as well as relayering the blue armour through successive glazes, so there's an attempt of a gradient from the darker parts. Still not sure if to commit to edge highlight or not, ot at least to the GW extent. Thoughts, as always, are appreciated Rusted Boltgun, Grotsmasha and Firedrake Cordova 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378169-zerowolfs-painting-trials/page/8/#findComment-6020624 Share on other sites
ZeroWolf
I relayered the blue for the armour last night, quite pleased with how they're coming along. Brother Christopher
I'd like to +1 Firedrake Cordova. The additional work isn't easily apparent in the photos but it's there and I'm sure that in real life the difference is striking. There's more 'depth' to the armour. ZeroWolf
Thanks! Yeah it's a lot more noticeable in person, one of my favourite parts of painting as I feel it adds a lot. I've reapplied the red to the cloaks (and the Sargents head) in a similar method, bringing everyone one step closer. The dead nid is also practically finished. Normally I'd do another drybrush but given its dead, I don't think it's necessary, but I may change my mind. Also tried to do some free handing on the Captain's breast shield, nothing fancy just some checkers. Alas it didn't quite work out so I covered it over ready for a second try. Firedrake Cordova
I like how the captain's cape came out With the shield, if the checkers don't come out, you could try adding some masking tape and doing a horizontal or diagonal split, or a diagonal stripe ZeroWolf 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378169-zerowolfs-painting-trials/page/8/#findComment-6023018 Share on other sites
