I've had the Necromunda Malstrain Coalescence model a couple of years ago, but hadn't bothered trying to convert it - until now.

And for a slightly more top down view:

Anyway, I have to say my defiler is no longer the creapiest model I've converted.

Basically, in converting it, like the defiler, my goal was to disguise the tyranid parts to make obviously a chaos model, not a genestealer/tyranid one.  For this guy, the most problematic parts were the very zoanthrope head crest, and the 3 vents on either side near the top.  So, I glued demonette claws onto the vents, and replaced the crest with a bunch of beads - I had originally intended to greenstuff around them to make them eyes, but I think I will leave them as is and make them into eggs instead.  Anyway, I'm really happy with how he turned out - I intend to use him + my rogue psycher to be a chaos enforcer with ogrynn bodyguard (this is the "ogrynn"), given that the rogue psycher is legends only these days.

I do seem to have lost the tentacles that come out of its mouth, but I think it looks fine without so I'm not too miffed and its another thing to set it apart from the original model.

Thanks @Brother Anderson & @Bonehead - I'm definitely slipping it into my paint queue for Call to Arms, as I think it will be a blast to paint.

Either of you have any suggestions on how to make the eggs look slimey?  Nothing really comes to mind other than a thick coating of glossy varnish and letting some drip over the edges of the upper cavity.

My first instinct is nurgle's rot, though that ties you to one specific colour. I know people use uhu glue for strands of viscera so that might work. I think UV resin could do the job, though you'd have to be fairly speedy getting a UV torch on it as it drips.

Thanks for the suggestions, @Brother Anderson.  Fortunately, I'm not really looking to make anything "stringy", just "moist" - so shiny and wet looking, with some perhaps some dripping but simply in the form of liquid spilling over a lip rather than anything that crosses open space or that forms lines or strands.  And I would want it to be transparent (so, mucus looking) so the nurgle's rot doesn't sound like it would work.

Yeah, I'm with you and Brother A on that, Doctor. Gloss varnish for the win. Maybe counter-intuitively, I find that it tends to look better if you don't highlight anything you want to look moist- just a flat colour with gloss over it seems to be more effective, not sure why. Presumably the 'real' highlight effect of the gloss works best hen nothing under it competes with it, but that's a total stab in the dark, I'm no expert.

Thanks both of you for your suggestions - I'm planning to paint it for CtA, so you should see how well I achieve the effect shortly.

One thing I did do over the weekend is start building a dark commune squad.

CSM046.jpg

The two on the left are from the AoS Glutos kit (which I'm turning into a defiler), the right one is the leader model that comes in the Hedonites Spearhead.  The lady in the middle originally was lifting up a platter with a heart on it - I've replaced the platter with the staff topper from the right guy (turned sideways), who I've given a halberd head from the AoS Chaos Warrior's kit.  Nicely, doing so hides the fact that the lady is missing the last 2 knuckles on all the fingers of her right hand, as those are part of the platter piece I'm not using.

The dark commune squad (as per the 40K codex) is composed of a cult leader, a psycher, a banner bearer and two guys with big swords.  The middle lady will be my psycher, the halberd guy (and the duplicate unbuilt model I have) will be the big sword guys, the the left guy armored sword guy will be the cult leader.  Don't have a good model for the banner yet, and nothing in the AoS line jumps out at me, so I'll have to stew on that a bit - depending on whatever model I decide on, it may become the cult leader in which case sword guy above would be converted into the banner guy.

Thanks, @Bonehead!

So, I figured out where I am getting my banner from - I'm stealing a cultist from one of the squads I'm building from my 2 Hedonnites Spearhead boxes (the old one - the new one is all demons).

Here's the first of two squads of cultists built - these are from Blissbarb Archers.  Sorry about the photo quality.

Basically, I cut the bows and quivers off (the quivers were the hardest part) and replaced the bows with various pistols I had (mostly from the Necromunda outlaws kit, but some Escher, Catachan and Cadian ones too - and an Infractor bolt pistol for the squad leader) with close combat weapons from their own kit or from the AoS witch elves kit.

The bottom picture is said squad leader, plus a small guy (I believe he's a token in the actual kit) to replace the guy I'm stealing out of the next squad to be my Commune banner.

Had actually built them all a couple of weeks ago, except the guy with the red foot in the first picture - with him, when I was cutting off the quiver, his foot went flying god knows where, and today I gave up trying to find it and gave him bionics cut of a mechanicus trooper I'm never going to build.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with them - they are a lot of work for 50 points of models, but they make great Slaaneshi cultists, IMHO.

As well, I finished building the last 2 figures for my dark commune squad.

Pretty simple conversions, though I think they work well - the guy on the left is the same AoS Hedonite sorcerer I converted with a halberd, this time with a spear from a Hedonite seaker rider (I think they are called Slickblades - they are in the Spearhead box, and I used a bunch of their spears for my raptor conversions), and a AoS Wyche dagger instead of his mirror.  Guy on the right is one of the archers (same model as the guy with the red foot I posted above) with a demonette seeker banner and an Escher autopistol.  He also has some EC infractor grenades on his butt.

And here is the whole squad together - also gave the guy in the middle a holster, otherwise I'll never remember he has an autopistol (only he and the flag guy do).

I find it kind of funny that of the two spear/halberd guys, with one with a mirror and the other a knife, they are kitted out to give the leader a close shave whenever he wants one.
