My Son and I each have around 12000 points of Titans, Knights, and normal LI stuff.

His eyes lit up at this news of Dark Mech. Will defo purchase heaps.

We have been informed by a friend, we need another 3000 points each to bring us up to a total of 30k for the HH setting.

I don't make the rules.

Really great to see some of those new mechanicum releases planned. For me this was what I was always hoping Legions would be used for, some of the larger scale units that work much better at 8mm scale than at 28mm and allow the designers to do something a bit different. I'm not sure I will collect them myself, but I think many people will and look forward to seeing them on the tabletop.

What I'm excited for is possibilities for count as orks or eldar using the new lists.

Speaking of Xenos, a bit on the 40k side today.

5k of Epic: Armageddon, Ill Met by Moonlight.
Patrols met under the onslaught of the tyranid invasion and quickly escalated as marching columns started pouring into the city. The situation quickly dipped to Mechanicus' favor, as they got their big guns onto the field and incessantly pummeled the xenos as they tried to escape the traffic jam at their deployment area.

Going a tad crazy trying to get black for my Dark Angels infantry to look okish at this scale :/

Yeah I was quite happy with my black rhino but black troops not so satisfying.

I did it mid-grey primer, adminstratum grey dry-brush, Black Templar (I am usually very sceptical on contrast paints, but they are slowly winning me over).

If I were doing Dark Angels maybe gloss varnish on a plain black would work?

It’s hard at such a small scale to get black to work as well. I’d go with something like a dark grey, a wash of Nuln Oil and maybe a light drybrush of grey? Or make them straight back and add pops of red and white to contrast the dark base of the models.

Tragedy in three acts: 3k NetEA Imperial Fists vs. the Machine Church, Reinforce the Right (GT scenario with three waves of troops and randomised deployment areas). The central firebase of the cog-boys proved too tough to crack for the astartes who arrived far from their main objectives and though the battle hung in balance until the very end, eventually the grand magos led their taxi-deprived and thus slowly stretching column of servitors and priests deep into the enemy rear.

Do note the Fists' Devastators' laudable camouflage exercise "Operation Atlas".

  • 3 weeks later...

I have been weak today ... I couldn't resist buying an Astartes Battle Group (there were only 2 boxes left where I typically shop and they were discounted at GBP 88) and another Mechanicum Battle Group ... Sort of Christmas in advance :teehee:

I have nearly finished building the models in my first Mechanicum Battle Group. I loved building the Triaros and Thanatars, the Castellax and Vorax slightly less - for the reasons mentioned elsewhere - although they are quite cool once built and it didn't turned into a hellish experience. Key for these two types is to build them when you are completely relaxed and focused and empty your mind of everything else (some swearing occasionally occured this said ).

For the Myrmidon Secutors with flamers (#13 on the sprue), I even removed the excess plastic between the axe and the flamer on the right arm. It looks nicer that way. I'm a bit crazy maybe

For the Triaros, I found it easier to glue the volkite calivers (elements 12 & 13) before glueing the sides with tracks (elements 10 & 11) and also to glue the shield generators (elements 16) and the elements 17 (unsure what they are exactly, I haven't taken the time to look it up) to element 15 before glueing it to the Triaros.

So we recently discovered that my son’s 40K Mechanicus army was lost in the fire some years back and he wants to get back into the hobby. I was working on assembling my Mechanicum box and it picqued his interest and he now wants to play LI.

Back in the day, I had painted up some House Cadmus Knights for him which he still actually has. Wanting to keep that kind of theme, the obvious choice to go with them would be Legio Gryphonicus (which would be a gateway to AT as well BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!). I would say that I’d paint the Mechanicum up as Gryphonne IV, but I think he wants his to be the standard red scheme. But it brings me to my question: what Astartes Legion would pair with Gryphonicus? The Mechanicum being basically bog standard makes for them to fit with any random Loyalist Legion, but who would specifically go with the Legio? I’m not too keen on fluff regarding that. Any help would be appreciated!

Been working on some infantry:

Note that the plan is for each of the above model to come both with and without the jump pack. Thing is that there aren't any Skitarii in the Mechanicum list (yet), but they do appear in the HH literature (and cardgame). These fellas are about 9.5mm tall, making them about the size of a Space Marine. Guess you could use them as count as Space Marine allies in a Mechanicum army (either as Assault Squads or Plasma Gun Support Squads)

If it's possible to include version without the plinths, could up size ever so slightly to run them as thallax and ursurax which are 3 on a base.

My modern infantry kits always come both with and without plinths
