Yeah it went away far to soon. I've been building all the BSF stuff as part of my son's Nurgle traitor guard, to oppose my more kit bashed Tzeentch traitor guard

I have begun work on my IRON GAUNTLET challenge. I’m hoping to get more then this done, but since the Call to Arms is starting I will be conservative with my plans

I plan on doing 11 Carnivores and a War Shaper as a base. If I get done quicker then I expect I’ll try and get more of the Kroot box done

Looking good mate.  I have always loved the Kroot look, particularly alongside the super tech looking Tau.  And I know what you mean about delaying a little till the Call to Arms starts.  I have a tonne of orange boys to paint for the Call but as there is a month between when the Iron Gauntlet starts and the Call, it makes it difficult.  I may just need to use to the time to prep everything.  Or maybe push through one of the less point per model choices.

@Brother Argent I could conceivably enter my Kroot into Call To Arms as they are Xenos and I’m going to focus on Necrons, but I want each challenge to be totally dedicated to one faction. We’ll see what Kroot I can get done before I switch to my crons

 

Got the first carnivore done. I’m batch painting the squad, but typically when I batch paint I’ll get zealous and just tackle one guy after a couple of steps. So I put down all my Militarum green for the skin, then when I went to drybrush it I just started hitting everything on this guy.

I used all the same contrasts on him. It has some advantages, such as not having to bother as much with getting the small unseen crevices painted since they are green anyways. But it does change the shade of my leather cloth (Darkoath Flesh) and I have to touch up a bit more for the quills.

I converted this guy a bit with Eldar Corsair parts. Way back in the day Kroot met a used to be able to take other species weapons, and I’ve always loved that idea. I plan to eventually expand with another squad of Farstalkers, and I think I might try to deck them out with multiple alien weapons

After a brief hiatus do to Call to Arms and  a touch of Warcry, I'm finally back to my own WIP thread.

 

 

These are the Traitor Guard for the Tzeentch army. I wanted something a bit more professional and less spiky then the Blooded/BSF Traitor Guards, so I used Breacher bodies, novitiate auto guns, and the heads I lopped off the Blooded. To give it a bit more of a Tzeentch look I added the scroll and white runes. I don't know if the runes really sell it, but I just like the idea of a very professional looking force with arcane sigils around their uniforms.

 

Any CC is welcome, especially on ways I could improve the runes

I think the runes work quite well, and do even more so when you see them over a bunch of models next to each - I suspect their collective effect will be greater than looking at any one individual model.

Still gotta finish the basing for these guys, but I do agree that grouped together the runes really tie together the squad

I have started a drive to complete the rest of my Kroot box before my eventual gifting of more Kroot for Xmas

 

 

 I was a little worried the turquoise would clash with the earthier tones of my normal Kroot. I didn't really wanna go with the Box art brown, and I thought going with the same green as my Kroot, but I thought it's be to much Green. Having seen the complete model, I think it came out alright

I get why you didn't want to go with green - it'd be like camo for the rider if they were too similar a colour.

I've started building my Gue'vesa kill team for the Knives in the Shadows

I'm debating whether I want to use the Fire Warrior shoulder pad or not. I've always thought other Gue'vesa conversions that used them looked kind of goofy, but I think that was the proportions of old Cadians. The other issue is that it made them look too much like regular Fire Warriors, but I think that was due to the fact those conversions would typically use T'au heads. I think with the 3rd party head I prefer the shoulder pad

It's a neat conversion.  

 

I don't know if it's an optical illusion caused by a combination of camera angle and the pose of the model, but their head looks like it might be a little low (i.e. neck too short)?

 I think your right. I originally made a trio of Gue'vesa 15ish years ago using a similar idea, but with old Cadians. I ended up snapping the heads off those old models since I never painted them, and I didn't do a good job shaping the neck down to match the torso. I got a new batch of those heads on order, so hopefully it won't be a problem for the rest

Nice work painting the Kroot. I also like the choice of pistol and the idea of the Kroot mixing up other factions' weaponry.

 

Cracking job bashing those chaos troopers too, you've nailed the professional soldier look.
