I've been working on trying to make three custom detachments for First Founding Chapters. I've run into a block for Iron Hands and Salamanders. I don't know a lot about modern IH lore and it's hampering me from seeing something unique for them that wouldn't be covered by Anvil, Ironstorm, or Firestorm detachments. I know a lot about Salamander lore, but I've got a similar problem in that their in-lore strategies are really good fits for Codex detachments. I've had one idea for each Chapter:

  • Iron Hands
    • ??? Detachment
    • Detachment Rule - Calculated Fury
      • The detachment basically gets a second Oath target, but it's only re-roll 1s to hit.
      • Strats would be on the weaker side, because most of the power is in the detachment rule.
  • Salamanders
    • Zone Mortalis Intervention Force
      • I'd like this detachment to focus on how hardy the Salamanders are, and combined with their sense of self-sacrifice means they're often found on the deadliest battlefields.
    • Detachment Rule - ???

For the Iron Hands one, I would suggest something along the lines of "Networked Fire Force" with the detachment rule called "Simulous-inload Data Tethers."

You see, the Iron Hands use computer systems called simulous chambers where they can inload recordings of past combat engagements directly to their brains.  They do this prior to major campaigns, and inload data from previous battles that have similar conditions as to what they expect to face (i.e., same or similar opponent, terrain, etc).  This way, they know what should work and what shouldn't, and act accordingly.

So the detachment theme would be that the Iron Hands all received simulous inloads prior to deployment, and their armor is all linked via noospheric data tethers (aka bluetooth) in order to share targeting priority data.
