He’s cool,  but what is the point of the cloth covering his shoulderpads?  Could they not be bothered to sculpt the shoulderpad detail?

its really annoying, detrimental to an otherwise cool model.

I prefer the previous version just because of this!

His shoulder pads also wanted hoods!

Hmmm don't really like this iteration of the model. The silhouette is way too muddled by all the gubbins up top.

Also: yeah Mark Gibbons was nice but having all the new characters reposed to look like his work is just nostalgia-bait at this point.

And GW know we will bite; hook, line and sinker.

They should have done a more direct copy like they did with Mephiston

"can we have MG Asmodai?"
"We have Asmodai at home"

Did they change his equipment? Were the Blades of Reason? Not that they were any good and I hope he changes them out for some actual weapons that work this time around.

He now gets a Power Sword but the blades are still there, no idea if they'll still be in the datasheet, maybe as an ability.

They went back to their 2nd edition mistake... Its why I see this as more Sapphon than Asmodai even with the BoR.

I'm a little mixed on this.

Firstly, I'm very thankful that the smoke is an optional build - personally I don't like the way it looks and it's very distracting.

I don't much care for his helmet un-hooded, it reminds me a bit too much of Enclave Power Armour from the Fallout games. He'l be having his hood when I build him.

Why has the Iron Halo aesthetic changed so much? I think it's the leaning forward that irks me, it it were upright (and a tad smaller) I think I would be fine.

I can already see plenty I would want to do to change him; change how he's holding the crozius so it's not towards the head and put him more of a combat stance; I'd need to see how the sprue comes to see how difficult it would be to replace the concealed shoulder pads with actual pads (Plus I would need to find appropriate replacements); swap out the Iron Halo.

I do like the sword, it has a fantastic hilt, and the skulled vents for the backpack are so iconic.

I like the hooded helmet better, but it's good that there's options there. I'm quite happy with the smoke being optional. It can be cool to look at, but the skulls on the pack are one of my favorite parts, so I'd rather them unobstructed.

I'm a little disappointing. I had really hoped that a new Asmodai model would take inspiration from Mark Gibbons's work and though that inspiration is here I think it misses the mark, especially compared to previous model like Mehpiston which I've thought was fantastic.

It's an okay model but not great. I'm really glad there is a non-smokey version of the vents and the un-hooded helmet is neat though if I do pick this model up I will go with the hooded version. I prefer this to the previous, finecast model but the old metal Asmodai is still probably my favourite.

Sadly, a disappointing sculpt. They were doing so well with updating old Marines, but in the last couple there's been some odd design decisions and bad anatomy (Dante's calf muscles).

There's nice elements there. I like that the smoke is optional. The pose is better than the last sculpt, even though it's nostalgia bait. The weapons are nice. But the shoulder robes are stupid. It looks the sculptor tried to do a pellegrina but didn't understand what it looks like. His top half also looks squashed to me, for some reason. I think it's a combination of the weird helmet design/hood falling forwards, the fat Dark Angel rosarius hanging from his neck and the angled iron halo. On that subject, those iron halos that are angled forwards like that are an awful design, I really hope whoever is behind that isn't allowed to make anymore characters.

Also, why does every Astartes character now have to be on a massive sculpted base. Without the smoke, Asmodai is going to look like a pea on a drum, his pose doesn't even come close to filling that base & there's going to be so much empty real estate to either side which will just look bad. I miss the days when characters were on the same sized base as everyone else.

I was worried he was going to have Grimaldus donkey teeth. Doesn't look too bad. Little busy with the smoke.

The smoke is optional, which means you can tone down the business.
