I'm not 100% on the staff, more lik 70-80% but the rest of the model I'm 100% on. I love the large winged scarab on his chest plate and the hints to the sorcerers of 40k on him. If I didn't still have two Ahrimans from Prospero left over I'd consider getting him.

You know, its touched on a bit in Inferno but I always found it funny that despite only being somewhat small for a Legion (80k is not that small), the TSons seem to have been one of the best equipped and supplied Legions pre-Prospero.

Its sort of amazing given that Magnus seems to have a difficulty opening his mouth without putting his foot in (for occult or structural support purposes, I assume).

Having your own pet Forgeworld helps in that matter I'd assume.

IIRC the still technically have that forgeworld in 40k as well.
Unless there's been a lore change since I last checked, that particular forgeworld has shipments "go missing" roughly around when the TSons spin off a new Cabal.

Yeah but the trouble there is that there are alot of Forgeworlds and I would be genuinely shocked if some Legions had no 'pet' Forgeworld or the like feeding them supplies. And alot of high end wargear was proprietary so it is equally surprising that Zhao was able to get access to all the best and latest wargear specs given that they weren't very popular.

Case in point, it is genuinely shocking that the Iron Hands and Sallies seem more poorly supplied. Sallies especially since under the current lore they were about as numerous as the TS at their height...

Its a minor quibble but I always found it funny given the TS's infamously poor diplomatic success with Imperial institutions (including the Mechs) and their Chars tending to be written as not terribly successful diplomats.

They were supplied by a forge world that they libetated, Zhao Arkad. Would make sense why they were so well supplied.

That is a very nice model, though I find the bare head to be very pudgy.

a common marine head problem - they're usually the same size as the helmets themselves

Just looked at some of the bits I had. I compared the new Horus Heresy Mk6 helmets and the bare heads from the same kit with the old helmetless tactical squad heads and the Primaris Captain's bare head. I noticed that the ear pieces were the same size on the new Mk6 helmet and all the helmetless heads I had. The bare heads from the new Horus Heresy stuff seem to be in line with the Primaris model line and the old tactical squad. The sizes of the heads didn't change at all but the new Mk6 helmet did feel a bit small, as if there would be no space for their chin to fit inside the beak.

Marine helmet sculpts take the phrase “fit like a glove” literally.

Can this be ordered through a LGS now, like other regular products?

On a side note, sorry for the off topic tangent, but I'm looking forward to the old world reboot as the Tomb Kings range is going to be an absolute gold mine for the TS.

Glad to see the Thousand Sons getting more love. Great model with so much detail; FW has been hitting the releases with the upscaled armor marks out of the park. I hope upscaled Mk. IV is coming out soon, but on the flip side I’ve been waiting for Mk. II for longer than anything at this point so I hope that’s next out.

It's a great looking mini, but I'm not sure it was really needed, as far as needing toy soldiers goes.

The sons already have a plastic HH character, the rubrics and exalted kits can make a HH librarian worthy of the name, as can the scarabs (all in plastic) and there is already the legion esoterist and librarian for the psychic consuls....meanwhile the Raven Guard and Salamanders can't even segway their 40k plastics into the Heresy line without work, similarly the 40k World Eaters characters won't retro fit the heresy and there are 0 Iron Warriors characters available at all.

I know the release of one doesn't preclude the release of others, but as with the Champion models this just feels a little redundant for now.

There is 0 chance that nothing exists for those legions. Zero. Zilch. Nada. It already exists. It is in a warehouse in packaging ready to go. It could be dropped this Sunday. Your problem isn’t with Specialist Games it’s with the middle managers determining when stuff comes out. Every single missing praetor, all the missing consuls, all the missing units are done. They’ve probably been done so long it would piss you off more if you knew how long.

Is so curious this new "consul". Thousand Sons legion have 3 special characters (Magnus,Amon and Arhiman), a terminator Praetor and, now, this miniature marked as Consul, but you can use it as Praetor in artificer armor.

This change in the politics of adding new miniatures to the Legions, characters specially, is quite intriguing.

The miniature is really excellent. And is a Mk IV.  And the staff/ multi-bladed spear is "chef kiss" Nice design, nice touch to use a Mk IV...nearly perfect.

Maybe next week another of this guys but for legions without their own generic characters? I hope.

I don't disagree. It's the oddness of the preview and/or release schedule that is the puzzle, not the lack of releases themselves.

I've mentioned my prediction that next week will be a HH Era Rune Priest, rounding out the HH "We Ignored the Council of Nikaea" trilogy of "But we use our magic sensibly and carefully", "The tutelaries I summoned earlier said magic is based, so I won't stop" and "bro it's not magic, it's just summoning the world spirit from 300ly away trust me bro".

Well well well another new mark 4. A very interesting one at that upon close inspection it has the same high collar and new bodysuit the Lanius has, the new holster missing the pouch, the new smaller helmet style with the little clippy things on the neck and most importantly a feature none of the newer examples of mark 4 have had... The new style feet.

Yeah I think it's safe to say a new plastic mark 4 has been done for at least a little while now. I can actually picture what they may end up looking like now too and what retro elements will be added. I dislike Thousand Sons but this is very exciting to me.

Yeah its a lot quicker and easier to design thing than produce them, though id been told Resin is so much quicker and easier and FW stuff is easier to make to order so its been a bit odd how much isnt coming out for them.

Plastics is a whole, much longer and more complicated puzzle of course but id be surprised if they havent got a wealth of cad files for every armour mk and variant, probably legion too.

Even more than one design per type and Legion, and several prototypes and unreleased miniatures.

That was the usual when they made metal miniatures

Exactly this! I can only imagine its gotten more expansive on computer too, between not needing physical storage and being able to repose or "kitbash" things on the computers.

Yeah, I can see alot of examples of prototyping in the recent mark 4 releases and with Raan and Zephon but seeing this guy with the new style feet having the shared elements between the two new plastic kits that's super cool. I kinda hope the high collar design from the lanius is just for characters but I could live it. I wish the legs werent so covered can't tell if the upper thighs match the new style with cutouts for the groin and butt but it seems like none of the recent mark 4 that have new elements (granted most just had that new backpack and changes to proportions) have that design either like the lanius his thigh plates are fully old school still. Also just noticed he's got that mark 4 front plate layered over a mark 7 chest plat look that's common with thousand sons. Very cool.
