Just because it came out first doesnt mean its a prototype :D They almost certainly did that with plain unadorned armour rather than Artificer suits that can have all kinds of unique designs!

This is true, but from our end, we see whatever comes first

So they almost certainly designed the new MK III and then Fafnir Rann for instance, but to us it shows up in hand the other way.

Marine helmet sculpts take the phrase “fit like a glove” literally.

The ones that don’t wear helmets don’t do it to look cool, they do it because their heads are bigger and so the helmets don’t fit.

They did not Raan is an early prototype it shows on his chest armour and height. Same with zephon. The design was finalized but not the proportions. Raan has new gear holster grenades etc but his overall height matches the deathwatch he has longer legs but his torso is missing a millimeter. Compare him to a new mark 3 he's slightly shorter and it's all torso. Zephon was clearly matched to the size of chaos marines but his proportions were not he has the tiny hands but his body suit is def a one off and when measured he comes up a millimeter taller than heresy marines he also has older grenades and his helmet is closer in design to the original. I don't think anything was finalized until after they were done and GW doesn't seem like they wanna waste protoypes anymore I have an old ultramarines herald that is without a doubt a :cuss:ed up Remus Ventanus they tricked me into buying anyway with a limited edition model sold as a herald with special rules.

The Sons of Horus armory upgrades has the most prototyping, with the new style MK IV arms.

Those are the despoiler and heavy weapon catch all for everyone not an actual mark but looks like all of em arms.

I have no clue what you're talking about, if you look at the kit, there's a MK IV arm in the new style holding a banestrike bolter. Second from the right, next to the MK III arm with the same.

Spoiler

To go back on track for the actual model though, I am glad I've got my Thousand Sons red recipe down. Blood Angels red works quite well over retributor armour, either by brush or by airbrush for vehicles.

Aren't those two arms pretty much the only example of this so far, and done like that because the ambiguous mark arms which you add a plate to wouldn't work for those poses that well?

All the other arms in that upgrade set, the Despoiler upgrades and the heavy weapon kits are indeed the generic arms OttoVanAwesome mentioned.

I understand that, but those aren't what I was referring to in the original comment, so I don't know why they're relevant. I was referring to the MK IV one as a 'tease' of what future MK IV arms will look like.

I guess I should have been more specific about that in the original comment, I clearly was wrong thinking folks would know which piece of it I was talking about

...

Either way, I think that's enough random talk about arms, when we should be talking about the Thousand Sons librarian.

Thats a MK6 arm holding that bolter. the new MK6 tacs have the same elbow armour and if it was MK4 the arm plate would extend over the back of the hand a little instead of the bands style similar to the MK6.

Basically those two arms holding Bolters represent the two MKs we have in the new style.
