Elvrit:

Elvrit held up one armoured gauntlet to forestall the Trader.

“One final question. Do you have any information as to what has been happening at Astess?”

"Throne only knows at this point.  They were voxing us for regular updates until a few days ago, then missed one, were back for the next few.  Silence.  Been two days with nothing.  Planet and station are both still there and as far as we can tell still communicating, just not with anyone else."

Elvrit:

“Then we must try to assist any loyal forces. Our thanks, Trader. We will leave you to start your journey. Remember, as soon as you are able, get the information we have provided to Terra.”

Your Thunderhawk shot out of the ship's hanger bay like a dart, chasing after your warship which continued n system towards the primary planet.  if it keeps at the same pace it will take another dozen hours to reach high orbit.

Arazakiel

The Dark Angel left the task of piloting the craft to others, instead turning his attention to the ships cogitator systems. All of the messages recorded both comms and auger scans of the betrayal, pict feeds of the rescue itself as the thunderhawk dropped down amongst the warring factions. His own name and ident as endorsement of its truth, his word against the lies of the warmaster.

He had once questioned the value of the remembrancers that had accompanied them to war, no more.

As you burn towards the primary world, you get a message from the planetary government demanding your immediate assistance putting down rebel arbites.  The government message says they suddenly detained several senor advisors to the planetary governor without warning raided several strongholds planetside before withdrawng to their portions of the primary orbital structure.

Hadad

“Agreed, and be prepaid to bait a trap if it is the Arbites that have foresworn instead of the governor.”

“Brothers, this might be callus to think.” He hesitated, kind of waved away, regathered his thought.

“I am troubled by the division and uncertainty that has been created by the Warmasters betrayal.”

“Here we are getting reports from two sides claiming the other is the enemy, and we have no way of knowing which is which until it is potentially too late. Before the black sand both an appointed governor and the Arbites would have beyond reproach, now we question both on the others say so.”

He had found his way back to the first thought, where he had hesitated.

“The biggest damage of Istvann was not to our respective legions, devastating as that was, and still is, it was to trust.”

As you close with the planet, the calls from the planetary governor get more frequent and more demanding; the latest ones include specific airlocks they expect the company aboard to breach in an assault.

From the arbites, you get a single, intense data burst.  it is a pict feed recording, an interrogation between a senior arbite and a detained officer, according to the records the planetary goverment sent, this s Marshal Venrok, but the mutant chained to the table claims to be Captain-General Venrok of the Astess Palatial Guard.

"To the fortress then, with caution and if need be, an assault."

The Raven Guard revved his chainswords gently, letting the adamantium teeth run through the mechanism and clean/sharpen themselves.

Elvrit:

Elvrit agreed with the Raven Guard. An assault.

But against who? As he understood matters, both the Arbites and the Planetary Governor's forces controlled parts of the orbital station. Both claimed that the other was a traitor. The Breacher frowned. Mutation amongst the PDF military Command certainly suggested that it was them that had turned… if the Arbites’ pict-feed could be trusted.

“I suggest we land at the Arbites stronghold first. I would prefer to see their evidence with my own eyes before committing to a strike. If it is confirmed as accurate, then we have gained allies we can then lead against the rebels. If it is proved false, we will at least have infiltrated their outer defences.”

Strangely your thunderhawk launch seems to get no response from any faction.  Your sensors do pick up evidence of ongoing fighting on the station; micro-vibrations of the hull, shockwaves from explosions on windows and the like.

When the airlock you enter the station from cycles, you find yourselves face to face with half a dozen arbites locked and loaded for war.  Though none are directly pointed at you, these arbites clearly know their business.  Two have heavy riot/boarding shields and shock maces, another pair have shotguns, they look to be Lucius pattern breaching shotguns modified to have a fire selector and multiple ammo feeds.  Another has a human sized Phobos pattern bolter, while the sergeant has a bolt pistol and a sheathed power sword.  All are in full armour with face shields.

"Ave imperator" the sgt says as the airlock opens.

Elvrit:

“Hail the Emperor, Master of Mankind,” Elvrit replied loudly, “and damn all traitors to Hel!”

He frowned down at the Arbites Sergeant.

“Now, the Governor claims that you acted first and unlawfully against his people, so I want to know exactly what has happened here, and I want to see the evidence that supports your actions. Make it fast, so we can get on with killing those who've earned it.”

The Breacher's tone implied nothing about who he thought that was.

Ashmon

He yearned to shout at the man, to answer Elvrit's question.

Talking with Mortals was slow and annoying. Yet he could sense that the walls to the empyrean were thin and burgeoning with power.

He had to maintain control.
