So we can move on to Round 3, I've thrown a couple of quick rolls in for Zidemi and Moridyn to join the Furious Charge, both hit and did a decent amount of Damage (added to previous Summary post).

Bloodletter Warp Instability tests:
BL2: Pass
BL5: Injured Asterius, Auto-Pass
BL6: Fail, 2 Wounds
BL9: Fail, 1 Wound
BL11: Fail, 4 Wounds - BL11 evaporates into the ether!

Stand by for Round 3

The spinning liquid from the pool below and the mist above finally meet, forming a whirling ‘blood-spout’ easily four metres tall. It continues to thicken, and suddenly it seems that you can see the shape of a figure standing within it. It is very insubstantial, but some details are just discernable.

It is much taller than the Bloodletters, almost the height of the spout itself, but it shares much with the lesser daemons; crimson-skinned and leanly muscular. However, it is less hunched than they, and carries itself with an air of grace and arrogant will. You might just begin to see the outline of something forming in its grip - a long, slender spear, of xenos design but that burns with a Hellblade's fire.

D5 Roll: 1
Bloodletter 12 Initiative roll: 5

A single lesser daemon bursts into existence in the pool. Perhaps most of the chaotic energy in the chamber is being drawn by the presence growing at its centre...?

Or perhaps the arrival of another has momentarily lessened the flow of the warp's evil? Silver-clad Brother Aednan enters the templum with brave Alda in his shadow, back on his feet for now thanks to the Adept's ministrations. The son of Titan is undoubtedly weakened and tired, but is still the mightiest of warriors and a true and unflinching servant of the Emperor.

“You were banished, Ang'Kal Blood-Dancer!” the Grey Knight roars in righteous fury, blue lightning sparking along his own spear blade. “You shall never come to this place again!”

But at the same time he is speaking into your minds again.

If the beast enters, brothers, we will not defeat him. This world will fall… and that will only be the beginning. Whole Sectors will drown in blood…

We must stop him. The gate is not yet fully open, but this templum is drawing more and more of the Empyrean. If we can stop this flow of power, I believe I can close the gate. There are… there are loci in this place. Focuses. I sense them. Sacred objects that are drawing Khorne's strength and energising Ang'Kal, allowing him to step through. There are… eight.

He looks for a moment with pure hatred at Orochi, then back towards the far greater threat that is emerging.

Brothers, I believe we have no choice but to grant the filthy imposter a momentary reprieve. Ignore him. Ang'Kal must not be freed! Find the loci! Destroy them!

Omoc only:

I think it is (probably?) fairly obvious from the map what Aednan is sensing. But as an extra clue, there was a hint if you look back at Omoc's Bolter Assault Actions at the top of Round 1!

Environmental Rules: Blood Mist:

This is very difficult to see through, so Ranged Attacks that pass all the way across the pool will suffer from the Fog environmental effect (-20 to Hit).
Round 3: This effect is lessening as the mist is drawn into the blood-spout, and will be gone by Round 4.

Aednan and Ang'Kal are not included in the Initiative Order, yet. Their struggle is beginning on another plane at this point. However, I have included Ang'Kal's profile below just to give you an idea of how much worse things could soon become if he can materialise into the flesh.

@Trokair if you would like Alda to be included in Structured Time, please roll for your Initiative. However, this is in no way a safe situation for mortals (or Astartes for that matter!) so if she would prefer to just observe, I don't think anyone would blame her!

Round 3 Summary

[x] Orochi: Multiple Attacks vs BL5 - BL5 is destroyed.

Orochi activates Kill-Marine Ability to enter Squad Mode and pays CP to activate the Dig In Squad Ability (doubles AV of any cover), and drops down (Prone) behind the body of Asterius (majority AV8 x2 = 16)

With neat, precise blows the traitor cuts the daemon before him into pieces that fade into wisps before they can even touch the ground. Then he moves, just enough to place the body of the Blackshield between himself and the rest of the combatants, and drops to one knee, weapons held ready, waiting to see what will happen next.

Free action draw, Heinrich Jennings' Power Sword, turn on power

Attempt to two hand it/grip it steady for the next bit.

Run (with Sprint) 24m x2 = 48m to back left (north west corner)

Can I while sprinting with the power sword on run in such a way as to hit the three small chains holding up the NW Brazier as I pass them? If not I’ll start attacking / charging as appropriate next round.

The Knight had stood, with some effort, after her ministration. Alda senses that she had done little to alleviate the problem. Enough however for the Knight to hasten to Duty, and his death she thought, once more.

She could hear the clash of battle ahead of here; the Knigh’s pace quickend, then they hwere through the archway and in the large chamber.

Something was rising out of the red water, a xenos of the wrap, a jötunn. The books had been light on the details of such creatures. This was the mandate of the Ordo Malleus, not Xenos. She recalled the advice of the scribe some centuries past in the margin in the book. ‘If encountering these fiends, pray for the Ordo Malleus to save you, and pray they do so by letting you live, all else id death.’

Death indeed, as she spotted through the red haze the fallen shape of Asterius being used by the Snake as makeshift cover. Would he live to be born again or had he found his end? No time to get philosophical, she had to act. To the right a group of the Team was dealing with lesser jötunn, to the left the Mantis was attacking the scenery as much as the lone wrap xenos. She got the gist, the loci that the Knight had called for, if the Mantis was right then she could help.

Drawing Master Jenning’s sword Alda darted forth, she could see a clear path to another of the Brazier and the chains that held it in place. Weaving this way and that, posture low, she used both arms to steady her grip as the power hummed along the blade, ready to strike and hopefully sever the chains as she speed past.

Spoiler

Slash at one chain in passing.

WS: 33 – 30 = 3

D100: 63, fail.

Only as the powered blade caught on the chain did the realisation dawn that this was no string and her idea a foolish one. The momentum had carried her past even as the sword both rebound from the impact, and slid past the links, finding no grip. She nearly lost her grip, and her feet. A stumbling haste brought her full circle as she spun round to keep ahold on the sword, and her compromised momentum almost introduced the ground to her head, face first. Thus she went past the second chain and came to balance by the third, in fact one had on it to steady the rest of her. At least now she could probably apply her other hand and the sword to the chain.

Gerhardt

Gerhardt instinctively recoiled from the touch of the psyker upon his mind, but quickly realized the message had come from the silver knight, a blessed and anointed warrior of the Emperor. His trans-human cortex working at a blistering pace, Gerhardt locked blades with the daemon before him, and then pushed off of the creature, firing a burst from his jump pack at the same time to put distance between them. As he rocketed backward, he half-blindly fired a krak grenade from the grenade launcher mounted under Eisenfaust’s barrel at one of the remaining blood cisterns near the chamber entrance.

He kept chanting his litany, broadcasting it both openly to all around him and across the squad vox channel, defying the daemonic incursion and feeling invigorated by the words and the clangor of battle.

“The Emperor is my keeper. Hatred is my sword. Contempt is my shield. Deny the daemon. Purge the traitor…”

As you wreak destruction upon the vile paraphernalia of the Khorne's worship, you can hear the screams of increasing rage from the monstrous Prince at the heart of the Blood-spout as it rails against Aednan's efforts to prevent its freedom. However, the struggles of one weakened psyker - regardless of how great a paragon of the Emperor's Will he might be - cannot indefinitely hold back the furious purpose of an avatar of the Blood God seeking to join in glorious battle.

Aednan sinks slowly to one knee, and with a joyous roar, Ang'Kal steps forth from the whirling spout. Burning yellow eyes, stark against blood red skin, stare hungrily around the templum. His features are stretched, twisted with animalistic rage and bloodthirsty glee, made all the more horrible by the fact that they also still display the refined markers of his birth species. Such refinement extends to his movements, as he takes another graceful step forward on cloven hooves and spins his long spear in a slow, elegant flourish.

d5(-2 due to destruction of loci), Roll: 3 -2 =1
Initiative Rolls for Ang'Kal and Bloodletter 13: 1(!), 7

Ang'Kal is flanked by another of his attendant lesser daemons, but this creature out of mortal nightmares is barely noticed in the wake of its lord. However, beyond the immediate, hideous, wrongness of the huge beast, you might also notice that the daemon prince is not quite fully formed. There is a… thinness… to it, a hint of translucency to the crimson skin, a sallowness to the flame that runs along his spear blade.

The Grey Knight sees it too, and though plainly exhausted, there is also a sense of urgency and hope in his psionic sending.

I could have kept him out only for moments longer, my brothers. But I must instead allow him through, and hoard what is left of my will for one final push at the right moment...

Do you see it? Our tactic is working! He has not all of his power! Stand strong, warrior sons of the Emperor. Carry out our strategy, destroy the loci. Weaken him more! Endure, and you will see this monster sent back to the hell from whence it came!

Round 4 Summary

[x] Orochi: Aim at Alda…

The black-clad traitor watches as the Adept races towards the brazier chains and fails to connect cleanly with her first sword blow. Still kneeling, with almost casual skill, he turns his body and and raises his boltgun to fire a deadly torrent at the frail mortal…

…and then the beacons around him, that have been continuing to grow brighter and brighter as the battle has raged, begin to pulse rhythmically.

Orochi pauses for a moment, considering, as he sights down the barrel. Then he grins, and with equal coolness, lowers and safeties his weapon. His other hand moves to a device on his belt, and at the same moment his voice breaks through into your squad vox.

++Well, gentlemen. It's been a pleasure, but now I must leave you to your…++ He looks at the crimson-skinned Daemon Prince stalking out to face you. ++...amusements. No hard feelings, I hope?++

There is a sudden flash that for a second overpowers all other sources of light in the templum. When it clears, the beacons and the architect of Alucar's misfortunes are gone. All that remains is the fallen, broken body of the Blackshield.

Aednan's weary voice speaks again.

I swear he will face justice for his sins one day, brothers… if we can but survive this one. Focus! In the Emperor's name, bring ruin to this filthy place!

Alda

For a moment the thought crossed her mind that this was it. The Snake’ s pointed boltgun about to be her knell. Instead fate had spared her, but at what price, the enemy had gotten away, his objective achieved given the release of the red jötunn and the injury to the Imperium the fall of the Bastion would bring. A Burden to bear later.

With a wordless cry she swung at chain holding up the loci.

The Loci continue to fall, but the Daemon Prince's focus is on Vafri Bloodsong. Having watched the Wolf duel and defeat two of its minions in quick succession, Ang'Kal sees the potential of a worthy opponent and offers a nod of approval as he moves into spear range.

“Come, Astartes,” he whispers in a snarl that nevertheless seems to make the entire templum shudder, “cross blades with me.”

… The imposing presence of the scarlet daemon-prince bearing down on them must have compelled him to speak.

“Double your efforts, Brothers,” he called out as he watched Vafri’s counter. “We are so close to finishing this.”

Cohesion: Zidemi will donate 2 Fate Points to Cohesion Pool.

Edited by Mike Zulu
Added 2nd Fate Point in case to Maintain Squad Mode after Bolter Assault

Omoc

Omoc turned his weapon towards the traitor as the signature energies of a warp jump built up within the chamber, but shots fired into the blinding light hit nothing but air. A hunt it would be then, perhaps small consolation that by taking the book he had put final end to whatever notion the inquisition had of imprisonment here.

Zidemis form obscured the last of the cisterns, but one of the daemons lesser kin still remained as Omoc swept his weapon back across the pool.
