Lysimachus
As the last cistern is ruined, the flow of liquid immediately begins to dry up, and the level of blood in the central pool begins to drop, draining away into the earth. The last brass brazier falls with a cymbal clash that reverberates and echoes around the cavern, and as the crimson flame goes out the templum is suddenly plunged into deeper darkness, lit only by a handful of burning weapons. More lesser daemons that were beginning to appear scream in impotent rage and simply fade away, not strong enough to maintain their grip on physical existence… but Ang'Kal Blood-Dancer is a far mightier being. Though significantly lessened by the destruction of the loci, the Prince holds his form together through sheer, violent willpower. He raises his great spear in both hands as though to plunge it down through the body of the Space Wolf that dares to stand before him. Then another light appears, throwing back the darkness. Crackling blue electrum dances along the haft and blade of Aednan's spear, and he begins ponderously down the steps, stones cracking under the weight of his armour. “Now, brothers!” he roars, “while he is weakened! Break his hold on the Materium, and we shall banish him from this world for all time!” Ang'Kal looks up, hate-filled yellow eyes narrowing furiously at the approaching Knight, and Vafri sees his opportunity. The Wolves may be headstrong, but few who are fools live to reach the rank of Grey Hunter. With all of his remaining strength and agility, the injured Watch-Sergeant throws himself backwards, away from Ang'Kal, finally rolling to a stop several metres beyond the reach of the long spear. The daemon is left standing alone, surrounded by Astartes. Vafri grins toothily, and echoes Aednan's words as he draws his boltgun. “Lucifer, finish this!” One last bit of combat, that you can either roll dice for or just handle narratively if you prefer - pouring fire into Ang'Kal to break his remaining grip on the physical universe, so that Aednan can finally banish him. As with the previous narrative-based fight, it's first come, first served, and feel free to build on whatever others post before you? Edit: @Trokair if you want to include cutting the last chain and getting out of the way of the falling brazier, please do! Trokair
Alda In the time she had failed to cut one and severed another chain a small war had been fought around her. Or so it seemed to Alda from the noise, valance and general mayhem. Yet again she was taken aback by the sheer ferocity of fighting einherjar. Thos that shall know no fear certainly knew how to install it in their enemies, and their allies no doubt. If Alda had not already been hardened by her training for the Ordo she suspected she would be paralysed and overwhelmed right now. "Move or finish the cut adept!" She’d barely gotten to the second chain, backtracking after the first, when the Star Pahntom’s call reached here. She wanted to retort that she was trying, but knew enough to save her strength and just go for it instead. Power humming the sword severed this chain to. For a moment the brazier continued to hang, and Alda started to move towards the reaming chain, the one that had almost disarmed her, when she saw, for there was no hearing over the battle, that chain stretch, the individual links straining and stretching until one snapped. Instinct drove here forward, she had seen one of the other braiser come down and knew this one would easily crush her if she stood still. Spoiler As discussed in OOC, if this was structured time the cut would be half action, then 4m half action move then Dodge to escape the last meter of the 5m blast. Dodge attempt AG: 41 D100: 78, Fail , 3DoF Lys, roll your 2d10 +10 damage to see if Alda is squashed or merely grazed. Necronaut
Gerhardt Gerhardt sank to one knee as the headless lesser daemon faded into nothingness before him and the serrated, otherworldly blade in his guts disintegrated and turned to dust, providing him with only a small comfort given the grievous wounds he had just suffered. His ruined war-plate was essentially the only thing holding him together at this point while his metabolic processes struggled to knit his flesh. His mouth was filled with the rich, sacred vitae of his kind, and he leaned heavily upon his longsword as he struggled to raise his bolt pistol. The newly materialized daemon prince before him rippled with power and the promise of further bloodshed, and the Black Templar squeezed his sidearm’s trigger in unknowing concert with his oath-brethen, offering a final, silent prayer to the Emperor for his last act of defiance against the Archenemy to strike true while his vision narrowed into darkness. Mazer Rackham
Azadth: Kalimatakata. The Day of the Dark One. It had come, and Khagan willing, was even now in throes of passing. Even one so unversed in the manner of the apocryphal spectres from Beyond as he could sense the ebb of will from a body - incorporeal or not. Azadth adopted a pose of staunch triumph, something with a flicker of pride in the act of living at such a moment, to have mastered not the beast before, but the caged warhorse within. His choler soothed, the sanguine raiment of the bloody cisterns decorated him, this wild marauder, painting him as some kind of red corsair. He threw up his arm, and let a slew bolts loose upon the wretched doom-Eldar, counting the losses which had bought victory. All in balance. As it should be. A.T.
Omoc Fire spat from the devastators weapon as he leant into the recoil, seeking to drive the demon to the ground as he advanced slowly upon it. Not a creature of true material some bolts rolled from its skin like raindrops or shot through unopposed as if firing at a shadow, but each tested the creatures grip on realspace as its fury and rage became increasingly impotent in the face of the Emperors finest. Others joined the assault but it was for the blade of the knight to strike the final blow. Lysimachus Posted yesterday at 08:12 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 08:12 AM The Prince of Khorne is battered by the fusillade of firepower, his inhuman body torn and broken again and again. His monstrous will battles against the horrendous damage being inflicted, repairing and reknitting the flesh even as it is blown apart. Perhaps he could succeed, depleting your reserves of ammunition far sooner than his terrible desire for slaughter could be broken… …but then Aednan is there. The Grey Knight moves into a lumbering but unstoppable charge, perfectly timed to be scant inches and milliseconds behind the last bolt shell that strikes the foe. He thrusts his force blade up into the daemon’s heart. Not just a physical blow, there is an audible crack and a sudden rush of air as the son of Titan unleashes all that is left of his gathered psychic might. Another flash of light, even brighter than the teleportarium activation, fills the chamber. When it fades, the templum is dark once more. It is almost impossible to see as Ang'Kal Blood-Dancer fades, just as his lesser servants did as they were banished… but you can hear his voice, a deep growl full of enmity and rage. Filthy mon-keigh, one day I will present all your skulls before the Skull Throne… Brother Aednan ignores the hate-fueled threat. He looks exhausted, but satisfied. And proud. “Well fought, my brothers. It is done.” If you wish, you can post any immediate reaction to this victory. Then for tomorrow's Friday update, I will post a proper epilogue type thing that will bring the story to an end, but the thread will be left open for a week or 2 if people want to make closing posts for their characters. Lysimachus
Scene 35. Epilogue It is more than two months later. You - and all of the surviving inhabitants of the Bulwark - have been transferred to Haltmoat, the nearest Watch-Fortress. It has not been an easy time. The Bulwark itself has been torn down, crushing the destroyed templum under a mountain's worth of stone, at the insistence of Brother Aednan's fellow Grey Knights - Ang'Kal Blood-Dancer will never again have the opportunity to return to his former throneworld. Kill-Team Lucifer have also been torn down. After been given scant time to recover from your injuries, you have spent many hours - perhaps even days or weeks - being… interviewed… by representatives of the Ordos Malleus and Hereticus, in an attempt to understand what happened during the months of your service with the Deathwatch. Only the advocacy of Aednan has prevented these interviews from becoming interrogations. In the end it has been decided that although you were unable to prevent the one known as Orochi from completing his mission, your bravery in Ang'Kal's templum and your success in denying his return have earned you a certain level of respect and honour. You are proclaimed innocent of any heresy, and testing shows that you have survived your experience without suffering any damning level of corruption. You will therefore be allowed to live and continue to serve. After even further deliberation, it has been decided that you may do so without the usual necessity of having your memories of the templum scrubbed. As servants of the Inquisition, already bound to silence, it was felt that such knowledge as you have gained will strengthen your resolve and make you better equipped to defend Humanity. However, your service is to the Ordo Xenos. As such, you are told that the matters surrounding Alucar IV - daemons, blasphemous items, investigations into Radical thinkers amongst the Most Holy Inquisition, and the hunt for Traitors - are no longer of your concern. Of Orochi, nothing more is told to you. It can be assumed that he teleported to a ship in orbit, but it is unknown where he went. Presumably to take the heretical tome he recovered to his employers? But these are issues for Inquisitors and Acolytes of the Ordo Hereticus to deal with, not for soldiers of the Watch. Instead, you will complete your service under the close eye of the Commander of the Watch-Company at Haltmoat, fighting alongside Kill-Teams formed of fellow Astartes hailing from scores of different Chapters. Warriors of the Deathwatch. Keepers of the Long Vigil. Destroyers of the hated Xenos. Righteous murderers in black. OOC: This concludes our story. I'd like to thank all of the players who have taken part and done a fantastic job of unravelling Orochi's duplicitous plot, and saving Alucar (and the surrounding Sectors) from daemonic incursion. If you want to add any further posts from your characters’ perspectives* in regard to the aftermath of this adventure, then please feel free. I'll leave this thread open for a few weeks, and then close it up. @Machine God If you wish to save Asterius with another FP burn, then I am very happy for you to do so, and you can assume that he was found to be still clinging to life and is recovering from his injuries. This bit may not matter, as I don't know that we will ever come back to these characters, but: All players receive 1,000XP. You also gain the Forbidden Lore: Warp or Daemonology Skill (your choice, or if you already had either of those Groups Trained, you can choose a +10 to it). All players also gain the Orthoproxy Talent to represent that you have learned ways to overcome mental conditioning/brainwashing/etc (if you had already taken this Talent, you may either add an additional +10 to it, or you may have the XP cost refunded to spend on something else!) Other comments, questions, feedback, etc, can be added in the OOC. Thanks again everyone! Trokair
Alda Why were Medical Wards always windowless? Alda wondered as she put the heavy data slate down. Even after all the weeks of ‘interviews’ the Inquisition still wanted written reports from her for the time she was liaison to the Kill-Team. There was nothing she could add to these that she had not already said over and over, and yet Orders where Orders. At least she could take breaks when she got to weary, even if only short ones, unlike the ‘interview’ sessions. More than once she had heard the medical menials mumble that talking for more than 12 hours a day was not conducive to her recover, and yet they never voiced these sentiments to the Inquisitor or his Interrogator. It had taken her a while to puzzle out from the questions asked of her that the team had not foiled the snakes plan like she had thought. The summoned jötunn, both lesser and greater, had been but a side effect. No doubt someone else would be tasked to hunt the snake now, perhaps even the grim Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus who had sat in on many of the interviews but had rarely spoken. Thinking of the various Inquisitors and their Huskarls that had asked pointed question Alda also wondered what had happen to Inquisitor Kine, perhaps he was a guest of the Ordo Hereticus? With a sigh Alda picked up the dataslate again, she needed to get this section done before the night warden turned off the lights.
