I’m building a Landraider and want you to help me

decide whether it be a Crusader or a Redeemer.
I play Black Templars as the main Astartes.

Crusader is fluffy, but I love the massive flamer …

don’t want to magnify anything just will choose one or the other.

My dirty secret is I've never liked the crusader. The hurricane bolters just don't do it for me.

I would probably cave if GW made a new kit though.

Back in the day I went with spartan assault tanks, but feels less advicable now that they're legends'ed

I am running a Crusader but find the firepower is mediocre. I would go Redeemer. As well as the usual benefits, the Overwatch stratagem creates a 12" bubble of "Nope" around it.

The Redeemer has superior rules and is more useful!

To be fair they have the same exact rules, just different equipment.

But yeah, Redeemer offers more for the cost. I find it Redeemer = Godhammer > Crusader

I like the Crusader's superior space, but due to GW's new policy of min/max units, you can't take advantage of it. You'd expect the opposite, but nope.

I like all three but for specific reasons for each. I run a standard Land Raider Godhammer pattern because it is part of my anti-tank units for my Black Templar collection. If I bought and used another land raider it would be a struggle between the strength of collection thematics vs. rules power.

Haha see Crusade Chaplain Bohemund for due penance. ;)

Yeah I feel similar ...

That was my struggle. I prefer the way the flamer looks though

It looks great!

I love the Redeemer and always wanted one for my Grey Knights, because burning daemons just always seemed like the right thing to do …

On that note burning things is sorta Black Templar-ish too.

Ha! Funny, I've just been pondering getting a Land Raider myself, and thinking of the exact same question re: which variant to buy.

That said, what do you need around one to make it work? My current thinking is target saturation with other armour - I have 2 Repulsors, and am thinking of throwing 2 Redemptors into a list with them (own 1 of those, too.)

Never got around to owning one with my Firstborn battle company, and feels like it might be one of those things to get done before it potentially gets shuffled out.

The two things that have worked well for me are target saturation and appropriate cargo. Since you have the Assault Ramp rule to allow charging after disembarking, it makes sense to make use of that. This could be something as cheap as Assault Intercessors or it could be fully tooled up units like Bladeguard Veterans or Aggressors.

Have been putting a Redeemer together for my Crimson Fists (using the Firestorm detachment).

I'll admit that the kit hasn't quite aged as well as others and I'm now struggling with how to put the SB, MM, and HK all onto it :laugh:

The Crusader is superior in exactly one way: max range of its sponson weapons.  My Redeemer is so feared that my usual opponents bend their whole armies to killing it on Turn One, if able.  The Flamestorm Cannons are quite simply dangerous.

 simply dangerous.

Now that's an understatement.

You need to make sure you have multiple "I need to kill that fast" targets to distract your opponent. Repulsor Executioner and Vindicator for example.

The lot I play with really hate having a Vindicator thrown at a tough squad or targeting vehicles.
