Jolemai
Welcome to part one of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series! Following the release of the 10th edition Codex Supplement, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Codex Supplement: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Codex: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends. Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed. Without further ado, here's this week's entry: Blood Angels Captain What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Blood Angels Captain? To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Which Detachment are you using? What unit is he leading, if any? What delivery options are you using? What deployment options are you using? Are you using an Enhancements here? Stratagem synergy of note? Over to you. Please note the Captain will be discussed elsewhere. Jolemai
Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please. (Once I work out how best to float it!) *** As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos. Karhedron
OK, everyone's favourite Captain Smash is back in a new form. The key to unlocking this mini-monster the combination of "Finest Hour" (one off +3 Attacks and Devastating Wounds) and the Enhancement "Rage Fuelled Warrior" (one off Sustained Hits 3). This is absolutely monstrous when stacked with Oath of Moment (reroll all Hits) and Assault Intercessors (reroll 1s to Wound or full rerolls if the target is within 3" of an Objective). Take the Relic Weapon and this guy gets 10 attacks on the charge (6 base, +3 from Finest Hour and +1 from Red Thirst. If you trigger Rage Fuelled Warrior and reroll anything that is not a 6, you will get an average of 18 hits at S7! Now lets assume you have arranged it so the target of all this rage is on an Objective. You can now fish for Devastating Wounds by rerolling anything that is not a 6. This means you will deal an average of 10-12 Mortal Wounds against any target and you will still have all your normal wounds as well. This guy can solo anything less than a Greater Daemon and can cripple even the toughest targets like Knights or Daemon Primarchs. Quite often the attacks from the Assault Intercessors will be enough to finish off anything that still has a pulse. You can also use his "Rites of Battle" to add a free Savage Echoes or Red Rampage to amp up the killing power further. You can play with this a bit too, For example, the BA Captain can take an MC Chainsword. Normally I would not bother as the Relic Weapon is generally better but if you just want to maximise Attacks for generating MWs then the MC Chainsword and Savage Echoes boosts him to 12 Attacks, 22 hits on average and 14 MWs against any target! This kill combo only costs 90 points for the Captain and Enhancement and 75 points for the Cheerleaders Assault Intercessors. Add an Impulsor for staging and you are good to go. If you are confident that you will kill your target without Red Rampage and/or Savage Echoes, you can give them Aggressive Onslaught for Advance + Charge. When disembarking from an Impulsor, that gives them an average charge range of 19.5". I am planning to add one of these guys to my roster ASAP! Kryczek
This guy rocks. I used rage-fuelled on a bladeguard captain and he smacked 6 skorpekh destroyers in 1 round. BGV never even got a chance to strike. Definitely going to try him with fist and assault intercessors and maybe a sang priest as well. He's got the nightbringer in his sights for next time. I though the classic "Smash Captain" was a Jump Pack Captain. Nice write up regardless tho. I totally have to try him. Also thank you for reminding me, that such unit abilities spill over to the leader of the unit. Somehow I forgot about this when it's not movement related. RyanT2112
I like to put him in a squad of 10 Assault Inercessors, a Sanguinary Priest, and himself. Giving him AP3 on his weapons and a 5+ FNP to the squad. Now the intercessors when they wound will put more wounds on their victims from AP-2 chainswords. Stick them in a land raider so you have a fire support platform that can move, disembark and charge! Paladin777
I think this guy (qnd his inferno pistol) is best with Assault Ints, but if you plan on running a captain with company heroes the regular captain (with MC bolt rifle) has a little bit better synergy. A smattering of D2/3 shots out to 24" range isn't a ton, but it's not nothing either. However, the BA captain and regular captain are so similar that you may as well think of them as the same. Also, the chainsword isn't worth taking. An argument can be made between the sword and fist though. Paladin777
Ran this guy at an RTt yesterday. Popping both RFW and HtC with OoM he took the last 11 wounds off a stompa (not sure how many exact wounds he did, but did 8 mortals + forced 4 saves with a fist. My opponent just took the model off after rolling) and solo'd 5 Wolf Guard terminators with Arjac. If you can deliver him (I use a Land Raider), the damage output of this guy is just absurd!
