Smoke Frog
Time to show off the diorama along with a small lore blurb. I hope to include these veterans as part of a larger display someday. ++++++++++ Administratum Record: Pit of Kiedes - Asteroid 3422 Kiedes (Type S sub-R Asteroid, Bantam Point 12c, Taelus System) o Type S: silicaceous o Sub-type R: olivine/pyroxene features, possible plagioclase o Bantam Point 12c: Outer Bantam belt, 3AU from Taelus star o Diameter: 386km (289mi) o Asteroidal Water content: no o Aminoid compounds content: no o Noctilith content (see: pariah stone/blackstone): yes (depleted) - Large pits caused by high-speed asteroid impacts, as well as boring operations to extract valuable ore. - Largest crater is known as the Pit of Kiedes, a 2-mile drop to the waystation and garrison at the bottom, shielded in the deep pit from radiation and micro collisions across the many belts ...of particular note during the eradication campaign against the Harbingers of Taelus was the Battle of Kiedes, in other literatum known as the First Battle of the Pit. Fought on a desolate rock a mere eleven-percent the size holy Luna, the former pit-mine-turned-ecological-station in the midst of the asteroid field, Kiedes-3422 had been conquered by Clan Clotho during the Great Crusade and used now as a hidden redoubt. The contingent of World Eaters sent to track down the Harbingers showed their effectiveness upon arrival at the asteroid, descending weightless down through the Pit down to the fortifications below, slaughtering their way through the defenders both marine and mortal. So violent was the traitor onslaught that nearly entire garrison was wiped out, with the surviving veterans pinned down in a hopeless last stand against the assault. Kiedes was lost and not reclaimed until nearly two years later into the Heresy. ++++++++++ Very happy with how this squad turned out! Here are the minis alongside their inspiration- The overall diorama, plan is to incorporate this scene as a corner for a larger 2x2 foot structure. Preferably as part of a tunnel-section. And plenty of close-ups: Lascannon veterans: Brother Casualty: Sergeant "Knuckles" Idaho stepping over the remains of Brother Skully: Glad to be done with these guys!
