Ok, I've sent invites out to those who have messaged me so far, I hope everyone gets them.

I've set up character sheets with Players' names, so when you join, please rename your sheet to "[your character's name] - your name."

If/when you check out the sheet itself, it can seem a bit confusing or daunting at first. Take a couple minutes, before you start adding in all your character's info, and familiarize yourself with it. It has a lot of formulas already built into it to calculate things like skills and available XP to spend. If you're uncertain of something, please don't be afraid to ask about it.

  • I've added all the static bonuses from the Regiment to your sheets already, you only have to add in your choices for Characteristics, Equipment, and Talents options
  • If your character is a "Guardsman," you begin with a total of 1100 experience to spend; update the "Total XP " amount to 3000. If your character is a "Support Specialist," you begin with 800 experience; update the "Total XP" amount to 3000, and the "Initial XP Spent" to 2200 from the dropdown menu. (This is the additional 500 experience from the Regimental bonuses.)
  • Please be sure to utilize the XP Cost columns in each section.

Finally, welcome to the Black Pa- ...the Guar- ...the Astra Militarum!

Currently working through my character sheet, which was obviously designed by Belisarius Cawl or the Emperor.

Nested IF's? VLookups and SUMIF?

What is this architectural marvel? And does it have a button to make coffee?

Chargen sheet is now finished, had to wiggle a few details to make the sheet fit, but it all calcs.

Took Toughness as my 'duplicate' replacement, although probably should have gone for Ag.

Anyway, took Parry, Dodge and buffed up my Comrade Hywell with the Righteous Oration Order.

Sheet done, will work on a character data post shortly.

Took Ag/Per/BS simple advances, Lightning Reflex Talent, and then Comrade has Spotter, which should allow me to shoot with a fairly good chance of hitting reliably. Kordo will be hard to spot (+93 to Stealth with his cloak on, -40 to Hit if he's still), but will die to a wet noodle slap and probably shouldn't face any mind-bending psykers (11 Wounds and 25 WP).

I am slowly working through the Character creation steps and filling in the sheet for Pridbor the Ogryn (also known as Por for short).

I have a few questions.

First of All, with both the Universal Standard Kit and the Standard Regiment Kit. What do I do with the stuff a ogryn just cannot use (or use properly)?  Non Ogryn proof weapons for example

Secondly, Comrades, do they have to be human/guardsmen?

I can imagine an Ogryn mistaking/adopting/whatever a animal as a comrade or even, and this is the idea I kind of like, have an imaginary comrade, perhaps someone that they knew and died and the ogryn just thinks is still around, just always out of sight, of on an errant or whatnot.

It's hand-waved a lot as the Comrade carrying it around, and we can do that here as well. But it's not going to be a lot of use in most cases in this game, at least until you move into the Bone 'Ead advanced specialty (if you choose), or you can purchase the advance without taking the specialty, but for double the normal cost.

For ease of the game, I'm going to say yes, they have to be human-ish. We could definitely work with a "phantom" comrade that still functions the same mechanically, but your character is the only one who can actually "see" or perhaps just "hear" them.

Do you happen to have the Shield of Humanity supplement for Only War? I'll let you trade out the GC Knife granted by the Regimental kit for a GC Mace-Fist from there. If not, let me know and I'll get you sorted.

Such a rowdy congregation!

Let me see - vespers from 1800 until 0600 for all of you miserable sinners, followed by mass with - ah yes, a THREE HOUR letter from the archbishop, with my own homily upon the iniquities of  the demon drink!

Get that thurible swinging, boy - I want the incense putting hairs on these sinners' chests!

I should do, I got a bunch of the Only War books in a Humble Bundle a while ago.

Since a Regiment kit comes with a GC Mono Knife, would it be possible to have this knife be Ogryn sized and gain the Ogryn proof trait, but otherwise be the same as any other knife?

Phantom Comrade it is. Por calls him Jarrow, he will be back any moment now, just running an errant for the Commissar.

On my character sheet I have divided the Universal and regimental kits into what an Ogryn can use (weapon wise) and what made some sense(ish) for an Ogryn to have. The rest is listed separately as Other.

While rules wise it is all my PC stuff, fluff wise I intend to play it as the items in the Other catogry is all stuff belonging to Jarrow (in Por’s mind) and Por is just keeping it for his friend for the moment. That seem ok?

I still need to spend XP, but otherwise I think I have gotten to grips with the Character Sheet.

Edit: One more question, is it intended that at Character Generation a Ogryn cannot make any melee attacks without the -20 for not having the right weapon training unless I spend some of the starting XP to get Weapon Training Low Tech?

Edited by Trokair

We can give the knife the Ogryn-Proof quality, yes.

The idea for your gear is good.

Yes, it's intended to be that way. I believe their bonus to WS is supposed to offset this a bit, but I'll take an in-depth look later this evening/tonight, when I can get on my laptop.

Ok, so having looked at it (good thing I did, or I'd have stuck my foot in my mouth), yes. Ogryn characters aren't inherently geared towards using melee weapons, hence not receiving one as part of the Specialty. You do have both the WS and Offence aptitudes, so you can get melee Weapon Training pretty cheap.

I apologize, I should have checked the aptitudes for Weapon Training.

My advice is to think about what you want your character to do a little ways into the future and buy/plan according to that.

No worries, the regiment came with extra XP so it sorts itself out.

I think I have settled on Athletics at 100XP as my last spend, with 50XP saved up for some point down the road.
