hd3
"Behold my long silence is now broken and I am made whole once more." Yes! Thanks to combat patrol magazine and a couple of generous donations, I'm bringing the Blood Ravens back for an expansion. This also gets me to exactly 1000 points. Without spoiling the reveal, the theme of this second phase is "Named heroes of the Blood Ravens". But before that, they need some elite troops to lead. So I have started with a squad of indomitus terminators. They are mostly equipped with power fists and storm bolters but the sergeant has a power weapon and one guy has the autocannon. These follow the same formula as as before, with a Tamiya grey primer with Tamiya matt ts -6 black spray and multiple laborious coats of pro acryll burnt red to build up that base colour. What I haven't decided yet us if I'm gonna follow the blood ravens index, DoW1's colours or a combination of the two. I might grab the new white dwarf and see if that settles the debate. hd3
I forgot that nuln oil doesn't work well on this colour, so I spent what feels like the bulk of today doing recess shading on the armour with black templar contrast. I also made a start on the other base colours. I've added black legion for the armour seals, Abaddon black for the combi-bolter casings. For metallics I've used iron warriors, with accent details in runelord brass and pro acryll magnesium. I used Balthazar gold for the combi-bolter skull icons and retributor armour for the belt icons. The zandri dust in the shoulder takes ages to build up over black honestly. I did three coats and it probably needs more. Finally a wash of nuln oil over the guns, metallics and armour seals. Next up, more zandri dust! Then picking out the small details. P.S I totally forgot to put Abaddon black on the knee pads like I intended. I also grabbed some pre-made bases from gamergrass but I'm worried they have too much stuff on them for the terminators to stand nicely. Definitely the sergeants at least. Also I'm not sure how to drill them to make a nice hole for the magnet. I really don't want to buy a drill or pin vice if I can avoid it. hd3
Finished (sans basing) my terminator squad! I tried using agrax on the shoulders and then building the zandri dust back up but it doesn't look great. On the plus side, it does look very beaten and weathered. I tried everything else is just like before, runefang steel highlights on the iron warrior, evil suns scarlet on the red. For the crux terminatus icons I used Mechanicus grey with nuln oil for the back, corax white for the skull and crossbones and then administratum grey for edge highlights. Except for the sergeant where I used retributor armor. I think I might try doing a glowing power field effect on the power sword. I also re used my green lens effect for the eye lenses, white scar, tesseract glow then warp lightning on the back half. I tried out the gaua colors fluorescent red again for the back mounted sensors. It certainly stands out though I'm not sold on using it as my new red lens default paint yet. Especially with how tricky it is to use compared to acrylic paint. I notice the red highlights don't show up too clearly here but it's really visible in real life. hd3
So now the terminators are largely done, I'm starting on my 'Epic Heroes of the Blood Ravens' section. First up is Davian Thule! For Captain Thule, I'm using an old castra ferrum dreadnought that I've given the close combat weapon with flamer and a twin las cannon. This is also primed in Tamiya grey then Tamiya ts-6 matt black with a base coat of pro-acryll burnt red. I'm using Thule's initital reawakening as a dreadnought movie as my reference. For the base, I wanted a reference to Thule's history so I used a severed Tyranid carnifex head from the same hive fleet that sounded Thule and got him interred in a dreadnought. Tuis he can stand triumphant over the beasts that injured him for eternity.
