Got some way to go but it's taken me ages to get this far and I need a break.

Not a fan of "blue" librarians and I've got a lot of green paint.!

Plans are for a crackle green base.

Still waiting on the paint to arrive for his face but based on my practice head tree and just basing with bugmans glow, I don't have the fine motor control.  Should be interesting but might have to go looking for a helmet.

The green works well on them, even if it is heresy not quite Codex-compliant.

I'll second the suggestion of Gulliman Flesh - it's a little bit like witch-craft (example courtesy of Tyler Mengel). It might be worth thinning it with Contrast Medium, and applying more than one coat (or one all-over coat and one or more targeted ones for the recesses).

That was done with Gulliman Flesh... impressive.

I have two warpaints on the way, kobold skin and flesh wash. They both seemed popular choices for similar shortcuts (and i ordered them before your suggestions).

Also a DA upgrade kit, so if push turns to shove.. helmet.

  • 1 month later...

Not the update you're looking for.. hope it makes you laugh.

I was reaching for the librarian, got distracted with putting transfers on some DA and Salamanders...  and then stumbled across a full can of Retro Kyosho Optima Green which was gifted to me by a friend with a serious 80s nostalgia RC car addiction. We are talking £000's .

Anyhoo

Quick test spray onto some card...errr okay.. this could be interesting.

Dug out Test bed Fred the tailors dummy, and quicker than you can guess an Alpha Legionnaires name... Alphafugfugssake what did I just do...?

I might have a thing for green but there are limits.

It sprayed on badly and over the top of an experiment with blue.. plus it was colder than i expected .

That said... if you can suggest a chapter scheme i might try to do an 80s retro marine.

Had to photo it against other green marines for context.

Librarian finished... probably

Capt tidied up but now, I think I need to redo the dead tyrannid he's standing on in Hivefleet Farva colours

And the 1st of 5 terminators.. who looks like he supports the Northampton Saints!

Easter weekend paint time.

Decided to split my 4 remaining DA terminators between Deathwing and standard sleepy primarch Green.

A lot more messing around than I expected for the deathwing colours.

Wanted to keep both simple and standard but found most images and tutorials of Deathwing are little too clean or yellowed and golden for my liking (and skill) So went a bit more grimy. The poor tailors dummy got worked over with all sorts browns and yellows.

First attempt at plasma coil glow. It was fun to try. Added some ice like light particles.

Also tried a different technique for the swords. Not so good but one which needs practice.

Not completed yet, transfers and basing required. I have an idea for the assault cannon. I'd like to add a stream of spent shell casings and a little barrel glow. Advice appreciated.

In other news, 10 Little red space pixies have been started, plus a wraithlord.   Just black primer and red base coating so far. I need to work up some enthusiasm to paint them.

The red isn't as red as I'd like.  It's citadel mephiston spray can. Another layer?

5 of them have powerswords and my intention is to do a different colour pallet for each one but sticking with the standard Saim Hann scheme.. it think.  Design advice welcome.

GW Gripe: 10 models, why only 4 female bodies and 6 blokes.  Would it have killed you to go 50:50?

Admin: do I need a new thread for the elves or can I change the name of this one to adopt them?

Quick update.

I was going to go very missionary with a codex compliant Saim-Hann scheme for the space pixies.

And... I still am, but with a twist of light.

I hate batch painting and am making it interesting by having one half of all models in warm light, the other in cold.

Still very early in the process. Only got the base colours down, initial blending and some darkening.

Looking forward to putting effects on the power swords.

I don't think the pictures show the dark red blending well. It photographs a lot darker.  And obviously edge highlights to come.

And some lightly kit bashed jet bikes waiting for base coating.

The scatter laser and shuriken cannon barrels are larger, coming off a wraithlord sprue. They are larger than the standard.

+some chopped about banners.

Chainswords, pistol and binocs, arms are spares from the combat patrol avengers sprues. Planning to do a diorama.
