Battle damage is an easy way to cover up any issues that you may have with priming over paint. You could probably lightly file off most of the DA symbol and use the right half of the wing as the remnant of an MM emblem that has been hit with some damage. I'm not a big fan of yellow paint, but I've seen some good tutorials that recommend base painting with a pink hue first, then yellow, to get a more even/vibrant coat of the yellow.
