Bergje1984
Hi painters! About 2 years ago I got back into 40K after about a 10 year break. I figured it would be a good idea to start a Sons of Horus themed 40K army, but after finishing up on a couple of units I figured out that this isn't exactly 'tournament legal' and that 'Horus Heresy' had become a thing. Again, I stopped playing during 4th/5th and at that time this wasn't really a problem. I quickly rerolled to 40K, painted up an Imperial Fist and an Emperor's Children army and had been quite content gaming with that until the Horus Heresy 3.0 box landed. I figured I still had some Horus Heresy squads in foam-statis somewhere in my closet, and that this could be a great opportunity to either expand a bit or start a new Horus Heresy army. I opted for the second choice and start a Death Guard army, using the Saturnine box-set as a start. I figured that the MKII Tactical marines would be a great match for this legion, and if I'd sprinkle some MKIII in there as well I'd end up with a nice looking army quite fast. I have played a total of 0 Horus Heresy games, but the lore is amazing and I love painting :D So time for a new challenge. I've started assembling the Tactical Marines and the Terminators, but I'm a bit slow as I have no idea what's actually good gear in this edition of HH. I figured I'd turn 10 of the 30 Tactical Marines into veterans, give them the disintegrators, and do as much magnetizing as possible. Any advice on loadout/gear is greatly appreciated! My previous Sons of Horus army. Firedrake Cordova
Your previous Sons of Horus army looks nice. I like the use of weathering on their feet to tie them into the environment of their base In terms of model-count, it reminds me of 2nd Edition 40K armies Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386449-horus-heresy-saturnine-death-guard/#findComment-6126853 Share on other sites
Bergje1984
Thanx Cordova! :D It's a small army, but I figure if I add some tanks etc it should grow to something playable quite fast. I think Horus Heresy armies in general are quite weathered down, filled with chipping and grime and this makes them an excellent candidate for some weathering powder trickery :P I unfortunately never played 2nd, I believe I started at the golden age of 4th edition :P But I really do like the bigger squad sizes a lot. In standard 40K it feels it's always like the standard is 5 or 10, it can become a bit boring Firedrake Cordova 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386449-horus-heresy-saturnine-death-guard/#findComment-6126854 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
Ah, I grew up with 2nd Edition - 2,000 points of Space Marines was roughly the size of your painted army. It made for some compact armies, but lacked the visual appeal of a large painted army on the shelf. Plus, Terminators had a 3+ save ... on 2D6 Edited 1 hour ago by Firedrake Cordova Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386449-horus-heresy-saturnine-death-guard/#findComment-6126858 Share on other sites
Bergje1984
Oh rlly?? That makes no money at all for GW :P I feel that every edition a 2000 pnts army keeps getting bigger and bigger haha! It looks cool, but my wallet hates me! It's hard to field an army now and not spend a cold €1000 on it. There are some exceptions like Custodes, but I feel for the local Ork player buying all his boyz at GW :P 3+ save on 2D6 is just silly :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386449-horus-heresy-saturnine-death-guard/#findComment-6126862 Share on other sites
