mini_painting_mike Posted yesterday at 09:34 AM Share Posted yesterday at 09:34 AM Hi all. My current work in progress! This is the start of my first attempt at painting a dreanought in many years of engaging this hobby. In fact, this is actually my first space marine model too! I have spent a long long time avoiding Space Marines but I've finally taken the plunge! I generally hate painting vehicles, as I don't use an airbrush and don't have the space for one at the moment. But for once, I decided to try and get some gradients done by hand. This is my first attempt at painting a dreadnought. The should pads need a little tidy up on the transition, but generally I'm happy with the other gradients. Does anyone have a good colour scheme to paint the base a red sand colour? Here's to the start of The Crusade! firestorm40k, Grotsmasha, Firedrake Cordova and 2 others 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386666-a-crusade-begins/ Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova Posted yesterday at 10:00 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:00 AM Looks like you're off to a good start! Painting vehicles by hand is not an easy task (I once painted an old 2nd Ed Rhino that way ... never again!). I've seen some people using the round drybrushes (Artis Opus Series D, Army Painter, etc) to stipple paint onto them, with good results. For the base, is this the kind of thing you're looking for, colour-wise? mini_painting_mike and hauteclere 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386666-a-crusade-begins/#findComment-6131608 Share on other sites

Yeah, I can achieve decent gradients by hand on small things like cloaks and flames, but on large flat surfaces it's really hard! Re the bases, thanks I'll take a look at these videos. The red is what I'm looking for for the darker parts of the base I have in my mind, I'm imagining a light plain with dark patches *that colour* so thank you! I've been into Warhammer since I was a child, but literally never did Space Marines before so now is time to catch up!
