Lord Marshal
Well, it's not Horus, but Raldoron's getting his own novel. Quote Raldoron is renowned for his fluid leadership and pragmatic approach to combat, and is especially good at understanding the hearts of his brothers. This natural understanding will be pushed to its limits, however, as the Blood Angels begin the mass recruitment of hastily trained Inductii in an effort to blunt Warmaster Horus’ conquest of the Garmon Cluster. Bereft of the rigorous training undergone by their brethren, the Inductii have little control over the Red Thirst, and their violent nature hearkens back to the brotherhood that existed before the Great Angel calmed his sons’ savage proclivities – the Revenant Legion. Can Raldoron temper his new recruits and stop the ghosts of the past resurfacing within the Blood Angels? Or will the Revenant Legion come again, and plunge the warriors of Baal back into their old nightmare? darkhorse0607
I am conflicted I have been complaining for at least 3ish years that they basically forgot Raldoron existed and focused on Zephon, Amit or other characters instead. So I am happy this exists (one for Marius Gage please) At the same time This is such a weird novel to me. This is, essentially, the same thing Raldoron is going to have to do in the Scouring, keeping the legion together after Sanguinius' death and prevent them from going back to being the Revenant Legion. Why is this placed before Beta Garmon instead? Why not just place this during the Scouring and kill two birds with one book? *edit Love the cover art though, that is really good Edited 18 hours ago by darkhorse0607 DarkChaplain and LSM 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387216-upcoming-bl-stuff-2026/page/27/#findComment-6179523 Share on other sites

(With acknowledgment to the other points you were raising...) This does give me hope for more character novels covering those who got lost in the shuffle. Personally, my big one is Lucius; who was such a prominent b-character in the early Heresy books and was left on a bit of a cliff-hanger in The Crimson King, but was very much "Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Siege" in the end. DarkChaplain
It still ticks me off how they did Lucius dirty. He just got axed for no reason whatsoever in a novel not even covering his own Legion, without him being close to the protagonist in that book, and just never brought up again for *years*. As if nobody in publishing even remembered he existed, or maybe his entry in the spreadsheet got deleted on accident when the intern spilled coffee on the keyboard. There CLEARLY was a plan for him there. McNeill set him up to appear in that novel FOR YEARS. And then The Crimson King ended up in limbo, the Ahriman trilogy happened and TCK was already in a weird spot, and then it did so many different things on the side and forgot about Lucius in the aftermath, clearly set up for something BIG? Heck, as of right now, he's literally been missing for years during the Heresy and Siege, and we have no confirmation of when during the Scouring he'll even show back up canonically. The Siege should have been where Lucius fully embraces Slaanesh's offerings, but now he might actually be the most sane Emperor's Children character we got. That McNeill also dropped the ball on Magnus having plans for the Sysypheum crew as per Alpharius/Omegon in The Serpent Beneath, which he acknowledges having forgotten in the afterword for his Siege of Terra novella, is crazy to me, too. Damn that stuff makes me miss when they had Laurie Goulding actually keeping plotthreads together, because lord knows whoever took over after him clearly did not. wecanhaveallthree
Yeah, I just flat-out don't get it. This is a fantastic hook for... a Scouring book. Hell, even the second Scouring book. The Blood Angels had fantastic setup in Ashes, and switching from Primarch dick-swinging to a leaderless Legion trying to figure out what it's meant to be now that there's time to stop and think (and whether they want to stop and think, or if they want to fight on and be destroyed by Sanguinius' blood curse) - along with the other battered remnants and hangers-on - and how easy it would be to slide back into the mindset of the Revenant Legion would be a really gripping read, imo: how close they might've come to being another II/XI and Raldoron putting the whole thing on his broad shoulders and showing the way forward (with, I have no doubt, a guest appearance by the Sanguinor). Particularly with the Martian assault as a backdrop, which is going to be utter madness of a ransacked, ruined world where everything is corrupt and out of control (a very pleasing reflection of Fear to Tread, I wot), that'd be great. These are real CONSIDER PHLEBAS hours. He does have a quick mention in Slaves to Darkness, when Fulgrim screams the Third together on the eve of the Siege. "Out the call went, piercing time and space. It vibrated through the gene-laced blood of Fulgrim’s bastard sons. On his throne Eidolon heard it, and blood flooded the whites of his eyes. In the sound-drowned ruins of Nus, Glorocletian, Apex of the Crescendio, heard the cry over the sounds of shattering stone and the screams of the dying. On Netis’ black sands, Lucius looked up from the scattered limbs on the ground beneath his sword. The faces on his armour swirled and echoed the call. In a thousand places of suffering, the children of the Emperor heard and raised themselves from the pleasure of their slaughter. They rose with bitterness in their hearts, with joy, with apathy, but rise they did. Ships broke from the orbits of mutilated worlds. Scattered fleets came about as they rode the frayed remnants of the Ruinstorm. From across the burning Imperium, the Emperor’s Children heeded the demand, and the promise, of their primarch." Of course, this suggests that he's in the Armour of Shrieking Souls pre-Siege, which doesn't align with other sources (like Khârn: Eater of Worlds) which have Lord Commander Cyrius present at Terra. (Cyrius originally being the first to kill Lucius, and becoming the first soul trapped inside him... though Angel Exterminatus confusingly retconned that...) These are real CONSIDER PHLEBAS hours. The assault on Mars would be perfect for introducing the concept of the Death Company as well. They're dropping in on a contested, ruined planet full of radiation. Raldoron has a bunch of marines that are lost to the Rage. He establishes the Death Company for the legion and sends them in to rid the legion of those lost to the Rage while at the same time figuring out a way to handle it going forward since Sangiunius (I will continue to spell that differently every time I type it) is gone, plus establish the reasoning behind almost all of the Successor chapters having a Death Company rather than handling it in their own way, because it was from the legion days. Cover him struggling with the decision, going through the normal character beats, probably arguing with Amit, etc. Shows the dark side of the legion by committing their marines to death, how they evolve over time with their secret, etc. Edited 11 hours ago by darkhorse0607 DarkChaplain, Tolmeus and Felix Antipodes 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387216-upcoming-bl-stuff-2026/page/27/#findComment-6179619 Share on other sites
Jareddm
Maybe the whole thing is told in flashbacks from the Scouring and we get both sides of things? LemartesTheLost
@Roomsky Our wish has been granted as far as a Raldoron Character novel goes, looks like I'm not finished with 30k yet *sigh*. I'm extremely excited for this and there's no better author to have the reins here than Haley. Although, I wonder exactly how Haley will attempt to differentiate this work from the Sanguinius primarch novel which touched upon some similar themes. I am anxiously awaiting a look at the LE version and will probably have to splurge if it's even halfway nice. My only gripe is that I wish Guy was writing Blood Angels for 40k. Regardless, between Raldoron and the Mephiston trilogy getting special treatment, I'm eating well in the near future. They said it wouldn't be done. They said it couldn't be done. Cautiously optimistic for this, even with Haley not being my favourite.
