I had less trouble last week when I arbitrarily decided to track down a Space Wolf army box to start the army.

(I had assumed SW would be popular enough that those boxes would be long gone or sitting on eBay for silly money.)

Did I make Homelander sad? If he missed out on his preorder we’d better keep our heads down.

Tabletop Battles (formerly Goonhammer).

Related to Creed's Feed and Seed (formerly Badrukk's)?

Jokes aside nice paintjob on the Terror!

Typo + added praise for painting.

I hope people who wanted the box were able to get one. I was fortunate to be sent a preview copy of Terror on Devlan. We’ve written up some reviews on Tabletop Battles (formerly Goonhammer).

I had fun playing through the narrative campaign. This is arguably the best thing about the box. It’s like a 1980s monster B-movie. Review of that is here: https://www.goonhammer.com/tabletop-battles-reviews-kill-team-terror-on-devlan-narrative-mission-pack

We’ve also reviewed the new kits. Spectre Squad: https://www.goonhammer.com/tabletop-battles-reviews-spectre-squad-kill-team-models

I don’t know how useful this all is, given that the box sold out faster than you could read a review, but all the rules are up on WHC and the models will get individual releases soon-ish

Good on you for covering the conversion potential for the Guard infantry. Most influencers and reviewers that get this stuff for free just do the bare minimum box art stuff I can already see on GW's website. Looking forward to getting this kit.

I am actually quite surprised. I was late to the party in signing up for the ROI for Darksphere and fully expected to miss out but I seem to have a copy!!
They had a tighter timeline than I remember for other orders, Noon today, with a notice saying if you dont pay then your order will be cancelled and you lose out. It may be that others have some later success or they even end up with spare stock if others are not paying on time.

I feel after this and (hopefully) getting 11th I will need to draw a line under my spending on Warhammer and actually get around to the hobby side rather than the collecting side again for the first time in a while. I'm tempted to go full spreadsheet on organising it.

I managed to get one too. And I enjoyed Madragola's article and paintjob, but I do think it was a bit weird seeing just how many promotional copies they must have sent out and then the box is this limited. Nothing against any of the individuals who got one and painted it up for WHC, it just seems a bit of an odd move from GW, is all.

I do find it a bit galling that so many promo copies are sent out and some of those that receive them only paint a few models and do nothing else with it.

Now, that could be down to deadlines, the depth that some painters go into to (some of the examples are really very nice) but the number of promo copies feels disproportionate to the number actually available - to the pont where customers that actually want to play the game may feel disgruntled on losing out.

But it always has been this way on Kill Team releases other than the season launch boxes.

I assume* that GW have done their homework and are confident that the extra interest generated by sending out promo copies outweighs the customer annoyance at not being able to get these things.

Or the FOMO box stoked enough desire to buy the separate bits at ‘full price’

* yeah, I know…

Yeah, I'm sure the amount of promo copies are just a drop in the ocean compared to the overall amount of stock. It's just weird to see a lot more painted promo copies than usual on WHC, when the box seems to have been out of stock almost immediately - but I'm quite sure it's more a matter of communication and perception than anything else.

It's just that it felt like an odd PR move to go out of their way to show even more promo copies than usual, when that's bound to create annoyance among (some) customers, but of course there will be complaints no matter what GW does, so they're probably pretty thick-skinned by now.

GW isn’t the only company whose marketing strategy is artificial scarcity and FOMO. Some are even worse. Mattel makes a doll brand called Monster High, and they make horror IP special versions of those. Mattel now sells tickets to the preorder. Not for the actual product, but tickets to be eligible to access the preorder order, and try your luck in getting a product that usually sells out in 2 minutes.

just make more stuff please. Or make 2-3 waves of product. Just being able to buy some kill teams would be nice

Yeah. I'm still not sure I believe that they're producing too few boxes on purpose, because they somehow think that's better than selling more products and making more money. I mean, we know for a fact that they can't produce enough to keep everything in stock and that they are in the process of building a new factory.

I think it's more likely that they simply can't produce enough of every new product and so, they prioritise making X "launch" boxes with both teams and Y boxes with the single teams.
