I haven't really run into an issue I couldn't gap fill when removing such pieces. The legs on the jump pack Primaris models are usually a single solid piece. I forgot to mention one step, you might have to carve a new armour panel line on some legs like the one in this picture. It really depends on the part. Some might need some simple gap filling depending on the thruster exhaust position if you can't cut it flat in line with the rear leg plate. Antarius
12 hours ago, Inquisitor lorr said: Really like this guy, other than the smoke. I DESPISE this trend of adding smoke / explosions / fire etc to models. Particularly in a way that is integral to a model. Make it an alternate piece for those that like it, by all means. But don’t lumber me with some cartoony looking static effect which breaks the immersion, please. This is pretty much how I feel about it too. I think it'll probably be easy enough to remove the smoke form this model, but I'd really prefer it if it was just an optional thing to begin with (like the rockets leaving barrels etc. that some models have; nice for those who want them, easy to leave off for those of us who don't). Mostwanted
8 hours ago, Marshal Loss said: First marine they've previewed from the box that's an exciting reveal, not sure why he wasn't shown first when he was the face of the whole trailer. Overall a really nice sculpt, I don't like the Primaris jump pack flaps and leg thrusters but knew they'd be there. The only thing I that I strongly dislike seemingly along with most others is the smoke connecting him to the base; it looks daft. If the intent was to make it look like residue from a jump then they've failed at that, it looks like he's jumping over a smoke grenade that's just gone off. That is literally what he's doing, you can just about make out the smoke grenade on the base from the rear photo of the model. The smoke element looks fairly easy to remove, then just pin his boot to the rock and the model should be pretty solid. This model probably wasn't shown first as they wanted to build up to some of the characters and not just show the better models off first. Rowland
Are these new models likely to be the no-glue push to fit stuff? I’ve recently built and painted some intercessors, leaving the arms and heads off the bodies. They are so much easier to paint nicely with the tip of a brush at the right angles rather than stuffing the brush at some odd angle. My initial experience with the starter set was much worse. I’m tempted by the Armageddon set for more Space marines and a new Ork army. (I really shouldn’t though). Karhedron
1 hour ago, Rowland said: Are these new models likely to be the no-glue push to fit stuff? That is usually the case with the edition box sets. Quite often, multipart kits follow a little while later offering more options and customisability than the ones in the box but at a higher price. This is more common for units than Characters though. My hunch is that Chaplain will probably be widely available as a single sprue, much like the Sword/Shield Lt from Indomitus. Having said that, there was a new multipart Terminator Captain to follow the monopose one from Leviathan so it is possible we will get a multipart Jump Chaplain too. It is too early to guess at this stage. FarFromSam
Matching iron halo on the crozius and Chaplin helm is rad. The book strapped on the hip is proportional, love it. Only quibble other than the cartoon smoke are the silly primaris ankle monitors and off label flaps. Tichinde
the ankle thrusters are odd, some JP models don't have them (New Dante, Lemartes, Sanguinary guard, etc) but standard JPI do. and the original Primaris JP captain even had ankle/Knee flaps! i wish they would stick to one choice.... infyrana
Question is .. after all those years of negativity about the old metal Lemartes... is the new one better than this Chaplain? I actually think Lemartes pose definitely has the upper hand, I'm not a fan of all these weird leg dangling fly poses, I guess they are at least consistent. mel_danes
Question? What would you do with a second character set from this set? I'm looking to buy a box, and sprue swap with an Ork player. Thus double the Marine half. For squads and vehicles, total win! For unique character sculpts, not so much. They will go for peanuts on eBay, market saturation will be high. Things like the Biologis are tougher, but this box doesn't seem to be shaping up this way; the Jump Chaplain can become a fancy Jump Cap, or just a really fancy member of a JPAI/VanVet squad. I also have turned them into presents for others. Had an extra Judiciar so I painted it up as a Space Wolf for my buddy who plays them. Evil Eye
Ankle-thrusters and that horrible Primaris jump pack aside I think the sculpt itself is very good. The pose seems...off, somehow. Very awkward, and the smoke plume suuuuucks. Generally a good model though. Depending on how the Librarian is built I’d kitbash a second one with the second JP chaplain, I’ve tons of pads and spare arms from the first plastic Vanguard to change the second set and ditto the captain, with the ork sprue that’s been doing the rounds it seems there’s two head options, so may be the same for the marine side ( the Blade guard captain in Indomitus came with 3 head options ) mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387825-new-chaplain-with-jump-pack/page/3/#findComment-6167919 Share on other sites

Yeah, I wish they made jump pack marines with their feet on the ground like the old kit. I also dislike dynamic grenade sculpts where the grenade is floating in mid air on a plume of smoke. The Assault Intercessor grenadier and the guy with the grenades in the new Cadian kill team are better sculpts than having the grenade being attached to a plume of smoke. Dr. Clock
On 4/24/2026 at 1:39 PM, mel_danes said: What would you do with a second character set from this set? The main pitfall of contemporary 40k rules design is that you can't just turn them into fancy sergeants and bodge them into any existing 5-man. When I doubled up on the Storm-shield captain and Lt. in 9th they just ended up as extra Bladeguard, but I still had to find the 6th man for that. These days #6 is usually just the Captain or Judiciar since I converted a Korsarro Khan to lead them all in 10th. Still - head and crozius swapped for basically anything else and the Chaplain could be a decent jump captain... Or, since you'll end up with more Van for him to lead, probably convert the Chaplain into a vanguard and drop him to ground level while you elevate one of the Vanguard options and add some bling to make him your Captain, thus preventing your 2 jump characters from being the same base model/pose. You might be surprised how much different the same pose/mini looks with a head and single arm swap! For the second Captain, he can always be a Lt., even if he's the exact same mini. Second librarian is tougher to completely change unit through conversion most likely, though if you can scrounge the bits to make him a shieldbro you'd have a unit of bladeguard instead of '2 Captains and a Librarian' if you wanted. Personally I'm not doubling up on any of the release stuff. I'll be happy to have Chap+Van on the opposite flank to Suboden, and also to have a fourth speeder and librarian finally (my terminators all went to Salamanders this edition). I do think these Bolter Eradicators will get multi-meltas though so that I have a proper 6-man melta squad. My 3 have been pretty lonely since 9th even though I take them in most games, and it'll be funny to rez my Gravis Captain into a proper beefy 6-man unit he can lead after a couple editions off. I might snipe an extra speeder to make it a nice round 5 eventually, but I can wait a year or two for their stonks to come down a tad (and see if any of the codex release kits spark more joy - looking at you, rumoured 'new outriders'). Cheers, The Good Doctor. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387825-new-chaplain-with-jump-pack/page/3/#findComment-6168092 Share on other sites
