These are the least-inspired battleforces in years, maybe since the format's beginning. So much chaff, so many old models, This is the first time I've seen a wave where I didn't want a single one. The Tyranid one in particular is disappointing – the value feels more in line with a combat patrol – last edition's GSC and DE combat patrols were as good for <$60 less.

In fairness, the only models which aren't 'modern' are the Basilisk, Hive Tyrant, Tyranid Warriors and Command Throne. The second oldest are probably the Chaos Marines from 2019ish?

It does feel like we've hit critical mass of Battleforces though, and there's only so much they can force into the things. I'm surprised they're still pumping them out, but I guess it must be working out for them to keep doing so. If you bought one of every Guard FOMO box over the last three years you probably have 4000pts now.

I have to wonder if this is some foreshadowing that these armies won't be getting a codex anytime soon?

With all that said, these feel more aimed at 'new edition, new army' peeps than many of the previous offerings, at least. The Guard one in particular is the old Combat Patrol with a Sentinel swapped out for the Basilisk, plus the Commissar and Rogal Dorn.

These are intended as jump on points for those factions, the guard one is the jankiest but the other 3 are very clearly "lots of chaff, big leader, some fun units, all very thematic to the general army".

They're literally perfect imo for new people, limited if you already have an army.

The horde units being cheap at any point is always a bonus.

WarCom out here WarComming again, claiming the Guard battleforce has "two Field Ordnance batteries."

Erm, no. It contains ONE Field Ordnance battery, which consists of two artillery pieces. So anyone who reads the article and thinks they're going to be getting four artillery pieces is going to be disappointed.

Ah, maybe I should just be thankful that they didn't refer to the one Basilisk in the box as a "squadron."

I don’t really buy into a lot of the internet conspiracy theories or cynicism that goes around…

…but I always look at these boxes and think A) they must have loads of stock that’s not moving (the commercially sensible reason) or B) they have stock they need to sell to make room for the replacement (slightly more cynical but still commercially sensible).

New Basilisk, Oblierators, Catacomb Command Barge and Hive Tyrant coming soon?

Chaos one literally is like they´re pushing out old stock at this point. Who even uses discolords anymore? The venomcrawler+oblits is just there to pad out more unsold bundles.

My word. It doesn't have to be super common comp units (which likely won't be the same in 2 days) to be a good box jfc.

the Guard one is interesting, probably a good starting point, gives all three pillars of the guard, you got the Infantry to stand on circles rectangles, you got the tank to put warheads on foreheads, and you got the king of battle to lend dignity to what would otherwise be and ugly brawl by dropping rounds on whatever

Any 40K news sites do points for these forces yet?

We don't get new points until Wednesday and everyone who's posting content is fully 11th ed brained right now so I doubt anyone's going to put the effort into pointing them for 10th.

Kinda shocked to not see an article by TTB or BoLS.

I like the look of the Tyranid box, shame these aren't a permanent fixture on the webstore. If you don't arm all your Termagants or Tyranid Warriors with all the optional weapons you could turn the Von Ryan's Leapers into a freaky looking Warrior variant.

This is a craY sentiment. All of those Chaos kits are from 2019 at the earliest, that's the only box that doesn't contain a fairly old kit.

I don't think any of the old kits included are bad at all. The Basilisk hasn't been in a bundle in years and is a guard classic, and  the Command Barge still looks great. Honestly only  Tyranids have some room for complaint, but I don't think Warriors or the Hive Tyrant are the worst old sculpts.

If I was starting or expanding my Necron army I'd easily grab 2 of these battle forces for my silver tide. Unfortunately I've used up about all of my Necron cabinet space

It's been said before that GW actively print new stock in the boxes as its cheaper for them then it is to pay someone to sit there and repack stuff. Plus given stock in-balances, they'd still likely need to print things anyway.

Plus, given the amount of times things go out of stock on their, I'd hazard a guess they don't print an awful lot for themselves (which I guess saves on storage), so they're probably not overflowing with sprues as we think.

Dunno about news sites, but maxing out the Tyranid one will yield a mere 550 points (Swarmlord, Melee Warriors).  490 if you take a Flyrant and Ranged Warriors. Heck, even with an additional torso to create a Flyrant alongside a Swarmlord, it'll result in 720 points. At least the Termagants are the multi-weapon ones.
