Kyari
I think its super unfortunate that so many recent Combat Patrol boxes got culled, but the plus side is that they actually seem to have put some effort in and reformatted the surviving ones to work better for 11th. I'm cautiously optimistic this mode might not be awful. Still super unclear if there's meant to be an entirely separate set of missions/rules for Combat Patrol, or if the dispositions and etc are just there so you can use the same primary/secondary as full 40k with the new maps having similar (but smaller) formatting. irlLordy
A new version of the android app was just pushed (pretty brave to release it on a friday evening). It looks like an issue with transposed secondary draws in the war journal was fixed (according to reddit), possibly other fixes too but without change logs, its hard to know. Updated: Patch notes were listed in a post on reddit. These just have data changes, not functional changes like bug fixes, but still very interesting to see. I’ve always seen combat patrol as being full 40k but with the army in a box. I appreciate the dispositions and so on aren’t personally tailored. In 10th we were limited to a few layouts. I guess because of the size of the board. I don’t see why the cards couldn’t be used. I have the 10th ones but didn’t have a chance to use them. We’ve only played three games so far! Craig
There has been a lot made in the core rules and warcom of pushing people to use the app to play the game for 11th. 11th has officially dropped with the launch box today but there is no way to use the app with the 2 included forces without purchasing an out of date codex where a significant number of the units in the box aren't even included anyway. There should be a path in the app to build an army list of those 2 factions only with the units in the box. As a demo of the app if nothing else. That there isn't is a huge miss from GW. And yes I am aware there are card datasheets in the box. Cactus
There are two QR codes in the small rulebook to "get started with the app". They both lead to https://warhammer40000.com/ which has nothing about the app. GW's web genius strikes again! This is the complacency that breeds from having effectively a captive audience. They know the entrenched players will wait while they bumble through getting the app updated. It does create a very stupid pain point for New players, to whom this box seems most aligned. Complete command group, battleline units, and cool centerpieces for both armies. AppleCrumble
But Armageddon isn’t aimed at new players, it isn’t intended to be an introduction to the hobby. It doesn’t include dice, rulers or the typical 3-5 starter missions or ‘start here’ style booklets ; it’s also a limited time box. The true starter sets, coming in a couple of weeks have all that junk, that established players don’t want/need. Rowland
This is relevant to the above but also the immediately current state of Combat Patrol. The Armageddon Box does have unit cards. I liked printing those off for CombPat and…thankfully can still find them for 10th. If they don’t put them up as PDFs in WHCommunity what happens next edition? I can’t see a way to print your Battleforge even if you wanted to, it’s pretty much app or nothing atm. Each edition becomes “disposable”? Perhaps I was foolish to get sucked in to the hype but maybe I was better of staying with 10th given that I likely to won't be playing outside the home. I do like the minis in the box though. I think it's likely combat patrol will get it's own book shortly as the first narrative expansion for 40k and what's currently in the app is just the bare bones here's to get you by. I've not checked to see whether the Vardenghast Swarm has adjusted from the previous version (other than gaining 1DP and a Force Disposition). Will have to check that out at some point. If there aren't any changes, I see no reason why it can't go up against older Combat Patrols if we can work out a Force Disposition for them. Then there are just the missions to sort... This might have been a typo, with the Dispositions available you can get the mission like you would in a full game. I did a game last week doing this and it worked out just fine. Granted without secondaries it was a low point game (30-13), but I think that is the point. These are supposed to be quick. Mind you mine took 2 hrs, but that was because my opponent was brand new to the game. Like our game was their second game ever. Rusted Boltgun
Thank you @Mr Farson and @Focslain. I have only picked up my Armageddon box today and have yet to crack it open and have a look at the mission deck. If you use the DP level to select a mission it becomes much clearer as to why the CPs are 1DP! Then we just need to work out some force dispositions for the old CPs and go from there. @Rowland, I'm thinking of putting together hardcopy sheet for the new CPs. A longish term plan as I'll have to work out how to use Canva (there's a great battle report in a thread here somewhere that used it) or something similar. Flicking through app entries on my phone is just going to tire out my poor old eyes. Honestly all the tyranid ones seem like Disruption to me. As for the others, I'd just use the disposition of the one they gave at the start aas a default and then modify as you see fit. These were decent reworks. For the Vanghast Swarm they changed the psychophage to something between it's current self and the release version (start of 10th), the Prime has the termagunat regen power and the strats are completely different from the 10th version. Enhancements are one character, one unit upgrade now. irlLordy
New version of the app is available (2.0.4, v126 and data v879). No patch notes from GW, so guess we'll have to figure out what changed ourselves again. Doesn't look like theres any update to Combat Patrol specifically, and the two typos I checked are still there (Doomsday Ark missing FRAME and Combat patrol Custodians having 12 attacks instead of 5). Edit: just saw on reddit, data version is the same, so no updates to units or rules. The app version was updated, so presumably functionality bugs were fixed, but those aren't immediately obvious. Rusted Boltgun
I don't know whether this is new because I'm obviously not that observant but when building a new army, you can select 1k, 2k or 3k forces (pretty sure this was 1k or 2k at the start?) and when. You do so, it tells you how many DP you get for the army size. I like that. Whilst it will allow you to select more than the available detachment points, when you create the list, it will error accordingly Which I also like. I still don't know why Combat Patrol detachments have a DP rating though. This isn't quite app related but the Votann Faction Pack has disappeared from the Downloads section of WarCom - I'm sure it was there on day one. There are two copies of the Drukhari one though! I have noticed that the MFM contains the DP values of the detachments and the cost of enhancements, which is really useful. Shame it isn't a .Pdf like the Faction Packs though. I am still uneasy with the sheer rate of upates we have had on rules and codices i 10th: all these quaterly updates, balance dataslates... are for me a more than weak signal taht something's wrong. And path toward full dematerialization sends a even worse signal, or at least my primitive brain interprete this as a bad signal. Once in there you tap the button in the upper left and it copies the list to your clipboard where you can paste it into a google doc (phone) or word/notepad (pc) Evil Eye and DemonGSides 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388094-warhammer-40k-app-update/page/4/#findComment-6177119 Share on other sites
Rusted Boltgun
There's an export button Hit Export and you get a list you can copy to your clipboard using the 'page with an arrow' button At least, that is how it works on mobile Android. DemonGSides
And that button next to the export is the command bunker which puts it all into an easy to use format that eliminates any wargear you didn't select and gives you all the stats and detachment rules in an easy to reference format. Rhavien
Anyone knows why the app keeps telling me that my Commander Dante lacks the keyword to be warlord of my blood angels? First app version didn't have that issue. Since then it's persistent. I already tried to create a new list. Oh, also a similar issue with enhancements.
