Why would there not be marine bits in a wreck of a marine vehicle? its marketed specifically for 40k, so it has 40k marine bits on it, not HH ones. You're right. People do make a fairly valid point, that if they'd left those off, it would be more likely to appeal to HH players... But then again, my experience is HH players enjoy converting anyway, so these won't stop them buying it (and maybe complaining still anyway, as complaining is everyone’s favourite hobby these days) Antarius, ThaneOfTas, Casual Heresy and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388453-plastic-crashed-thunderhawk-terrain/page/3/#findComment-6185242 Share on other sites

Nephaston
Now I kinda wanna see a whole collection of crashed aircraft and landing craft; like a crashed Tau Manta, a downed Necron Megalith, a succesfully landed, and thus destroyed Ork Rok, maybe even something nostalgia bait with a busted Squat-now-Votann Airship. For 30k a Stormbird wreck would probably send the community into a frenzy. Orange Knight
I see a Primaris backpack and a half buried Bolt Rifle. Both can easily be clipped away or disguised. It's definitely not an issue worth complain about. Also... with GW doing pre-painted Terrain, I would be ok with this being sold with paint on... ThaneOfTas
Yeah look while not including them and sticking both logos on the box like the new Custodes box would have been a reasonable move, its such an insanely easy fix that I cannot see any reason to actually complain about it. Corswain
Is there any reason to actually 'fix' it? I can't imagine a real-life scenario where someone has a problem with it. I suspect the complaints were more likely sarcasm that got lost on the internet. I mean, because I intend to use the terrain for both settings, I personally will absolutely be covering or removing all MkX items or details, as I dont want them to be on the table for 30k games. I'm not going to have a fit If someone else doesn't though, at most just make a joke about how the Thunderhawk must have gotten really lost. I R Tubes
Plastic terrain pieces are interesting because the type of plastic and its surface characteristics can make a noticeable difference during assembly and finishing. Things like rigidity, impact resistance, surface preparation, and paint adhesion can all affect how well a piece holds up over time, especially with frequent handling. Astartes Consul
Given that GW (needlessly) have two Drop Pod kits, one for each system, I think my fellow Heresy Heads can all deal with a backpack on a terrain base. Terrain is meant to be customised anyway, imo. Blissful Brushes
Looks pretty cool. The whole terrain footprint malarkey irks me and is something I don't truck with so this is music to my eyes. I'm going to hope that they've got their files for a plastic thunderhawk floating about in their servers somewhere waiting for a day that their finances need a little bump, or more likely how the rumoured plastic warhound performs. I assume that loads would snap up a Warhound, then over a year or so maybe build it. Probably then take a year to forget that they left a titan in their pile of shame before being prepared to fork out for a plastic thunderhawk and commit the same crime. Bloodwraith
I truly think this was a deflection troll, while being a decent terrain product as well. I think we will see a real plastic thunderhawk in the next year and a half, after we get the updated land raider kit and a few other vehicles. The land speeder showed that a retro design with minimal but significant upgrades can go a long way. It's stated in the article that it's not and has no chapter markings so it's chapter agnostic and paint it up as you see fit. Quote The Thunderhawk Gunship in question is Chapter-agnostic, so you can paint it in the colours of your friend’s favourite Space Marines and have a good giggle about how you shot it down before the game even began! Alternatively, if you’re feeling magnanimous, you could paint it in the colour of your own Chapter, and fight off the traitors, heretics, and xenos trying to steal the secrets in the wreckage. Either way, it’s a great canvas to test your weathering skills, in particular. As explained by Orion, I was poking fun at the huge seamline left on a display piece. It isn't some modelling rocket science, so you would expect them to take care of that for the promo photos. As for the wedged panel lines... well, they do look bad, but they were to be expected, since we've seen on other resin-to-plastic transitions, that this is a very characteristic limitation of GW moulding techniques. Interestingly, next year marks 40 years of Warhammer 40,000 (Rogue Trader, i.e. 1st Edition, was released in September 1987). I wouldn't be surprised to see a few big things released, but it's all speculation at this point in time. That said, I'm intrigued by the fact that this terrain piece doesn't seem to fit on the terrain outlines for matched play. Likely a conscious decision, but it does make me wonder. I think people are taking the GW's suggested terrain footprints way too seriously, but given that this is inevitable, GW should release some official alternate footprints so we would see more variety.
