Anyone going to build/paint/play in any Tanksgiving 40k event this year?

I just got this metal coin/token today for participating.

They say there's a second one when you complete your model.

I'm entering a Cyclops Demolition Vehicle.

What about you?

I'm ashamed to admit it but I don't even know what this is?

Every year, Warhammer stores and a bunch of local game stores run an event (usually the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving).

You pick any VEHICLE or MONSTER, then build it and paint it in the month of November. (There are two coins/tokens that you can earn. #1 for pledging the vehicle, and #2 when you show that the vehicle is built and painted)

The two tokens are used during the game, essentially as command points.

The game is essentially a free-for-all megabattle, where you get points for surviving and doing damage.

A lot of people bring big scary vehicles. Last year I brought a Firestrike Servo Turret... this year Im doubling down on the crazy. I'm bringing a Cyclops Demolition Vehicle. :teehee:

Here's some pictures from last year. A Banenlade won.

That Cyclops demolition vehicle looks like one of the easier Forge World resin kits to assemble, and should probably be pretty straightforward to paint.

As for game success, if points are awarded "for surviving and doing damage", then the poor little Cyclops sounds a bit challenged - at best you can score points in one of those categories! That said, at least it can try to qualify for morale advantage for being an underdog. (And the small size might allow for taking better advantage of terrain.)

My FLGS has been doing a Tanksgiving since before GW started. Unfortunately both have recently (last few years) been on weekends I'm traveling to see the parents for Thanksgiving. So I can't attend either, outside the fact that the closest GW to my parents now is 1.5 hrs away.

I was thinking of at least doing the painting part, but been in a slump.

I do wish all those doing this event good lucjk and to @Lathe Biosas, may your plan cause a lovely china reaction that kills many a bloke.

My goal is to hide in the shadows of terrain and then pounce on a wounded vehicle.

You might also have the advantage of being so inconspicuous as to make for a low priority target for the opponents, who may concentrate on the big, nasty and threatening looking big tanks rolling towards them.

And if things don't work out, you don't need to think up much of an excuse for why things happened as they did.

That's why I made my 40mm display base detachable for the actual game.

I don't want anyone paying attention to me... maybe I should give the tank a dark color to blend in with the table.

That display base looks a bit small in my view, but then again I am not in the habit of putting vehicles on bases (other than walkers).

If you want the vehicle to blend in with the surrounding terrain and table, then I think a medium-to-dark grey paint job would work on many tables, and I think it would also fit the model itself nicely. Plus enough weathering for the tracks so that they do not stand out.

Not much space for putting camo netting (made with medical gauze). In principle, it might be possible to build a detachable camouflage cover with metal wire and grill mesh, and cover that with camo netting, but that sounds a bit fiddly and might keep falling off if you are not careful when moving things.

I didn't really have any spare bases lying around, so I made do with a bit of cork and a 40mm base. I just need something to elevate it when it comes time for people to view it "on parade," aka when they line up all the participants.

I was originally thinking British tan tank or US olive drab. The two on the upper and middle right. Karnak Stone and US Dark Green.1000078851.thumb.jpg.b3b0b3b2c7ed5c4e835dad9c6b87c21e.jpg

Maybe then a mechanicus standard grey? With a clashing color for the side armour panels. Maybe a burgundy, if I could find one.

Sandy tan colour can be quite nice looking, and pretty straightforward to paint (a wash or two for shading can work nicely), but it might also stand out quite a bit if there is lots of grey terrain (especially darker grey).

Olive drab green might camouflage decently in all sorts of terrain, but a bit trickier to shade at least with my painting techniques.

Perhaps the most important question is whether you are going to use the model for something else afterwards, and if yes then what models are you going to pair it with?

Since the base was for display purposes only, I took your advice... and am making a bigger base.1000078905.thumb.jpg.75241cbb25c03fdd7ac59238d7067397.jpg
