I remember when the first Imperial Knight was released. The hype was real.

I guess if you try to cater only to the competitive side of players you get this kind of division. The 30k dudes I know are way more relaxed with the gaming side and they are already making plans for Titan maniples :-D

The 40k guys I know are more like - yeah a Titan nice, will it be good? *Shrug*

I only play 40K and I am HYPED for a Titan!  If I can play with it, that will be great but frankly I will probably get it just for the fun of building, painting and displaying it.

I'm seeing a chunk of this, it's a clearer division over on Dakka where the 30k crew love it and the 40k thread refused to acknowledge it was event possible it'd be a release, seem to not know it's a "legal" 40k unit, be concerned it doesn't belong in the game and I even saw a comment about it being competitively viable was a terrible idea.

In olden times weird superheavies were really really rare, and there were usually some stipulations about not using them in a normal game. So when they were used, it was a rare treat, and people did not terribly mind if for that one time it skewed the game. But since then all sort of gigantic or otherwise ludicrously powerful super models have become commonplace, and they often are not that fun to play against or indeed even play yourself. So people are not that enthusiastic about half the games being some sort of titan boss battles.

40k's soul was lost when GW committed it to competitive play.
I can't wait to come up with games centred around it. Such classics as escorting a maintenance crew to fix a dodgy foot before an enemy wrecking crew can capture it. How long can a lone Warhound hold a pass against a larger conventional force in order to allow it's allies to escape?
Can Angron actually save Lorgar from being squished?

I mean what are you considering a titan boss battle here, more than 50% of the playerbase tends to gravitate to some form of power armour, so it's not them. If we're talking about knights, they're not exactly as common as you make out and a plastic warhound will still be prohibitively expensive so unless you hit a few wealthy people or have that 1 buddy who loves them, it won't be a big deal?

Competitive gaming and internet hive minding about "the right way to play".

GW sales have increased by a factor of 6 over the last 20 years so there are a lot more players than there used to be. Games used to be mostly between friends who were used to house-ruling things where necessary. Now pick-up games are a big thing and a lot has had to be codified just to cope with that.

First came the Imperial Knights, then the Custodes, but those were just stepping stones.

With plastic Titans on the horizon, my ultimate skew army is finally taking shape.

Everything is proceeding exactly as I have foreseen. Your high model counts mean nothing to me now!

Soon, local metas will witness the power of this fully armed and operational skew army.

As a game piece its going to be what, 2000 points? And not like theyll need to overpower it for sales, so have at it anyone who wants to

If people want to do 2000 points of Gretchin against a Warhound then go for it

You could also make a cool mega-objective out of it on a 6 x 4 board

More like 1100 points in 40K for Mr Stompy the Warhound titan.

Or 750 points in Horus Heresy as a Lord of War choice.

It exists in 40k now at 1100 points and is objectively bad

I was actually compilating using the new kit as a wreck for objectives. Much like how they did for the Thunderhawk.

Now I'm not going to pay for the original kit to do this, but I will be adding it to my gift lists and see if i get lucky.

I can't get exited about the Warhound. It is too big for the game, and unless they seriously update the design, which I doubt, it is not particularly good looking. If they had to do an unreasonably large mecha, whish they had done Knight Porphyrion instead as it looks much better.

Because the Warhound is Iconic and its design goes waaaay back. Plus a plastic Warhound has been on the top of a lot of people’s wishlists for decades. It will sell obscene numbers

There's actually another rumour that we're getting a wrecked warhound titan as a terrain piece to go with this release.

Which costs more, horde army or titans at this point?

Edit: Lolz, missed a bit.

The huge nerf in 40k likely contributed to their lack of use.

Unfortunately, Hounds get demolished in 40k.

They lack the ability to deal with small unit spam. They don't have the Primaris style guns on guns on guns needed to do that. Only having two guns is another edition's design.

Statistically each of their two anti infantry guns average kill just less than a half an Intersessor squad.

They can kill big things adequately with their big guns, but fail epically at crowd control.

Getting your points back on 1100 isn't easy against a competent opponent.

But luckily rule of cool auto wins. Let's bring that back.

You know what? GW should go all in. Do you know those huge outdoor chess fields with figures high as your knee? Make the next titanicus game an outdoor game to play in the backyard or park! No, seriously. Release the common titans in low detail but affordable. I would buy it

And of course I'm excited to see the plastic war hound finally happening! Oh boy. Will I be still alive when we reach the Warlord release? Who knows...

Considering that it will probably be 20 years from the Baneblade (2007) release to Warhound (2027?) release, with some knights in between, I would not hold my breath for the big scale Warlord model. That said, I hope you have got a healthy lifestyle.

For the even bigger stuff, Warmaster titan is presently available in the smaller Epic scale, while the Imperator titan (also known as "walking cathedral") has not been commercially available for a long while. Supposedly some enthusiastic modellers have over the years scratchbuilt their own big scale versions of the Imperator titan - considering their size, you could probably play a skirmish game on the top platform. The Imperator titan, placed on the floor, should be high enough to work as a gaming table on its own.

Never forget ...
