Dark vengeance and the 3rd edition one come to mind but I'm not 100% sure anymore. Edit: there's been scenery MtO runs aswell, that was also all plastic now that I remember. This thread is about the upcoming plastic warhound, which I would expect to be supplied with a plastic base large enough to serve a pizza on. As regards the existing resin Forge World warhound, it is true that it is supplied without a base. However, there is nothing to prevent a customer mounting it on a base of their choice, e.g. lasercut from plywood. GW will probably do exactly that, or an oval one which might be a bit less material but less stability. FW never really cared about usability they just made cool models. 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194442 Share on other sites

To be fair, Forgeworld was more so for those "expert" modellers. Price and quality was their mark. Rhavien Posted yesterday at 12:36 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:36 PM Quality? Did you ever try to build one of their monstrosities? There were some better kits, but everything bigger needed heavy sanding, sawing, heating and reshaping, filling and so on. Oh, don't forget pinning or your huge and expensive model would crumble if to many photons hit it the same time. The details are crisp because it's resin, but I wouldn't call that quality. 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194463 Share on other sites

But drilling barrels with plastic is an accepted expectation. Some people just refuse to accept that resin is different to plastic. Could they be better? Sure. Just went in expecting it to be resin instead of plastic and everything that that entails. If someone isn't pinning, heat treating or sanding where there's minor moldslips, that's entirely on them for dropping usually large sums of cash without doing the prerequisite research. It's not like "THIS IS RESIN NOT PLASTIC IT'S HARD TO BUILD" isn't plastered all over the webstore page. There's an expectation you know what you're doing when you're getting involved with the premium range of an already premium product. 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194471 Share on other sites
derLumpi Posted yesterday at 02:38 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:38 PM Quality control got a lot better in the past years. I remember when I ordered a Drop Pod it was not good but still able to fix it. Back in the day if you had a really bad part they replaced it without making a big fuss. Still, I haven't had a kit that was a 'fail' and I got small infantry upgrade kits and also big Kits Like titans or other Lords of War. "Failcasts into the trash", come on dude, chill out. I had very mixed results tbh. Spartan - decent sicaran #1 - great sicaran #2 - had to get a second hull sent out because it was so misaligned, talking a 1cm gap in the front which i could do nothing about. warhound - the big bits are mostly .25-.5 cm out of kilter so its a hell of a lot of work. for something as expensive as their kits i think it’s justified annoyance. Their only saving grace is their customer service. this was in the early 2010s mind you, so can’t speak to now Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194482 Share on other sites

I had the Knights, and they were all perfect, all the smaller kits I put together from FW were also fine. I also had the Fire Raptor, which was easily the worst kit I have every put together, without reservation. So yeah, variable. 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194483 Share on other sites
Interrogator Stobz Posted yesterday at 03:14 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:14 PM Yeah, I have tonnes of resin kits, from Titans, to a Thunderhawk, to many Dreads, to individual minis, to tiny parts like paudrons and weapon options. None have been a problem, and all got the creative juices flowing. I'm really not understanding the hate for FW/resin. (Except my THawk, she was an exception; I got sent the wrong parts, not that the parts themselves were bad, transporter wings just don't fit on gunship T Birds ). It's not like plastic doesn't have mold lines to scrape, barrels to drill, and seams to fill, not to mention all the details melt off if you have a glue accident I call it hobbying, both are fun. So to me this isn't an upgrade to the Warhound, more of a sidegrade. Looking forward to seeing the transfers though. I can't wait to come up with games centred around it. Such classics as escorting a maintenance crew to fix a dodgy foot before an enemy wrecking crew can capture it. How long can a lone Warhound hold a pass against a larger conventional force in order to allow it's allies to escape? Can Angron actually save Lorgar from being squished? Completely. There needs to be more of this in 40k. The soul needs returning. 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194490 Share on other sites
Evil Eye Posted yesterday at 06:34 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:34 PM Yeah I've never understood the people that go "Oh well I WOULD have bought this mini but seeing as it's in resin I'll pass" as if using superglue is some kind of dark art. Heck, resin has some advantages over plastic (the ability to do undercuts, you can get far more detail per part compare to plastic etc). I actually found assembling the resin Deredeo torso I got much more fun than the plastic one, just because the partscount was far, far lower; the plastic Deredeo is a great kit, to be clear, but there is something to be said for the simplicity of each chunk of the model being in one piece. Now, Finecast is a whole different story, but that stuff isn't even real resin if memory serves. 2 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194492 Share on other sites

It’s not like the only difference is you have to use superglue. I bought a resin Warhound and a lot of my heresy dreads and vehicles are the resin version from before they changed to plastic. Building the Warhound was the single worst experience I’ve had building a model in this hobby. Parts that aren’t straight, parts that don’t line up properly and need significant work to fit, the sheer weight of the upper body, instructions that may as well just be a sentence saying ‘Build a warhound Titan’. Those are all issues directly tied to it being in resin. The positives you list are true but I totally get people who won’t work with resin, it’s nowhere near as simple as plastic. 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388767-warhound-titan/page/6/#findComment-6194498 Share on other sites

Probably about as big as they can fit in the box! If it is round, then somewhere in the 250-275 mm diameter might be doable (edit: as a minimum size). Though it might be oval shaped. Transporting it once assembled probably requires a dedicated box - or maybe a suitably sized plastic bucket (with carrying handle) with some padding inside. de Selby
Apparently the defiler base is smaller than I realised, that already looks huge on the tabletop to me. Didn't somebody bring a thunderhawk on a 12 inch base to the recent big London Grand Tournament and discover it couldn't legally deploy on the standard GW terrain maps because there weren't any gaps big enough? Hopefully GW will think to avoid that problem. I note the Stompa still doesn't have a base.
