The Garren Project

Astartes Consul

Recommended Posts

As the captains talked excitedly to one another, finalizing plans with one another and preparing to return to their units a man burst into the room, flanked by a pair of Grey Knights and clad in robes more fitting of a priest and bearing the Inquisitorial seal. His entrance was enough to silence the room.

"Gentlemen, I am Inquisitor Bosch. No doubt by now you all know of the treachery that has brought you here. We of the Ordo Malleus have known of Inquisitor Kriel's treachery but till now he has eluded us. We do not know why he has brought you all here..."

Now it was the Inquistor's turn to be interupted as War Leader Crasicus entered the great hall. Covered from head to toe in the scars of a hundred campains, Crasius represented the pinacle of martial prowess in his chapter. There was no doubt that he would one day be honoured with a new Blood Line. As he stalked into the room it was obvious that the scars to his armour were mostly new and that he had come here directly from Ricousis. He quietly made his way to an empty seat, nodding to the Inquisitor to continue.

"Yes, as I was saying, we have known that he might be tainted from some time but only now have we have we come close enough to confront him about it. Unfortunately someone here has taken matters into his own hands. But we have no time to assign blame, we must act quickly t contain the spread of his blasphemy or we may be forced to bring Exterminautus to the entire Garren Sector."

"My fellow Inquisitors and I must fine Kriel and root out his treachery, and only with your help can this be accomplished. We will be departing shortly to begin our search and I beg of you all to stand with us. What say you?"

***********************************************************************

Having sat quietly through Kriel's speech now the War Leader rose.

"I do not suppose to understand the machinations of the Inquisition, nor do I knowthat i fully trust you, but if there is heresy I will fight it. As I and my brothers have sworn, where the traitor stands, we shall strike. I will aid you in what way I can, but do not presume to command me and my men, not when you own loyalty is suspect, Lord Inquisitor."

OOC: all right boys and girls, here it is... the Garren 'System' is some like 50 worlds in Captain Fuzzball's description so i'm going to assume he meant a sector with multiple systems. the inquisitors below will each be going to one of the systems to begin the attack and while i'm not going to set a limit on how many people can be in one group (yet anyway) i would hope that we get at least one or two for each so watch for who everybody else is following before you post your own. We won't be assaulting the actual Garre System right off the back, we need to take the other systems down first and establish ourselves, the enemy is more entrenched here that we originally thought and we must contain the spread before striking to the heart. (plus it will make the project last a little longer than one day.)

so here's a list of the systems, the ones with names after them are ones we are attacking in the first wave, some of the systems have more than one inquisitor named and the number next to each system is how many plantets in that system so the more planets a system has, the more marines we'll need to get the job done.

Garren System (8) -

Los (2) - Perdat

Gwayn (4) -

Terrace (3) - Deasaga

Bracken (4) -

Suro (5) - Gamon, Kilotsky

Burgonne (6) - Chira, Seedic

Allic's Stop (1) - Kou

Leam (3) -

Kiel (4) -

Curwin (7) - Bosch, Kiphon, Ripart

you know how many worlds are i a system but it's up to you guys to name them and take them, so start writing, the fate of the system is now firmly in your hands.

hopefully i can get some sort of preliminary scouting reports up soon enough and you will all know what you're up against. (or maybe you can tell me, this is a group effort after all.) but don't forget to mention which inquisitor you are accompanying.

see you at the table.

Brother Captain Janos left the assembly with his Companion returning to the 'Simba's Paw' and the Brother Marines of his Chapter. His arrival was anticipated and Chaplain Domik was there to greet his Captain and Companion Simba. Samson could smell the anticipation of combat upon the Chaplain and his purring growls alerted the other Simbas within hearing range. Slowly building from answering rumbles, the sounds of the Simbas rose to loud coughing roars, echoed by the roars of the assembled Sergeants and Leaders of the Space Marines of the Crusading Lions Chapter.

Janos roared in challenge with his Brothers and the Simbas and then raised his gaunleted hands into the air. With a small mental command to the muscles of his forearms, the slim blades of his gauntlet's Lightning Claws snapped forth and glowed with crackling energies. Janos clashed his fists together and parted them, touching the tips of the claws to one another and creating huge sparks of lambent energy that drew the attention of every Marine and Simba present. The loud roaring ceased and Janos spoke. "Brothers! The time is come! The Crusade is upon us and our prowess in combat is needed." The captain nodded to Brother Domick beside him and lowered his head, knowing that every other head in the spacious bay, including those of the Simbas, joined him in reverent prayer as Chaplin Domick raised his Lion headed Crozius and called upon the Devine One's aid.

"Great Lion of Terra. We, your humble servants, beseech you to guide us in the destruction of your enemies." Domick drew upon the air before him the Holy Eagle and the Claws of the Lion. The strokes of his Crozius seeming to leave shimmering traces of energy as he drew the Holy Sigils of Power in benediction and blessing for his Brothers. "May our claws strike deeply, and may our fangs rend that which is tainted and impure. Bless us, oh Great Lord of the Lions, that we may strike the Great Foe a mortal wound and rend him into death and damnation for his sins." Domick raised his glowing Crozius and poised for the final incantation. "Bless us, Oh Great One, that our hearts be ever pure and our faith be unshaken in battle." The Chaplin swung his Crozius down to strike the thick plates of hardened battle-steel of the decking. "IN THY NAME!"

The walls echoed with the roar of the Simbas and the battlecry of the Marines. "Purity of Essence! Purity of Faith!!"

Janos raised his head and looked out upon his Brothers and their Companions. "The 12th and 14th Prides of the Crusading Lions shall strike the Fourth Planet of the Kiel System. Our Crusade begins there. Return to your Prides and assemble your squads, for the Lion stalks this day!"

Another roar of approval resounded in the great hanger bay of the Simba's Paw, and the marines and their Simba companions moved to their tasks. Some to return to other ships of the small fleet, others to the squad bays to alert their brothers and to perform pre-battle rites and rituals upon weapons and armor for the up-coming assault. Janos and Domick de-activated their weapons and moved in step towards the internal lifts, Samson padding beside them silently, to pass the word on to the Fleet Master and each of them smiled as they felt the Spirit of the Lion quicken their steps.

+++Thought for the day: Vengance has it's merit+++

Fellow Captains of the Adeptus Astartes, I am Captain Thor, White Dragons 6th Company Captain.

My Strike Cruiser is mere days away from the edge of the system. It is my most fervent apologies that we shall not meet face-to-face until battle starts. We all have our secrets, I am sure you understand.

My whole company has been mobillised to join this Crusade, as have our Companys Old Ones, who are eager to fight again. We shall only meet when the situation dictates our assistance.

Castus,

I have no time for pleasentries right now, as i understand it the Garren Crusade is in the early stages, and that so far you and the rest of the Fenrir fleet has yet to play any kind of influence. Due to these findings, i need you to take care of some...business, for me.

+++ Classified Material Attatchment, Chaplain Eyes Only +++

I want you to head to the Gwayn system, once there i want you to eliminate any sign of resistance, and retrive the Xenos artifact, hidden somewhere on one of the four planets. The artifact you are to retrive for me is in fact the second half to that, that lays deep within your own fortress upon Bifrost. Once retrived you will send it with Commander Therrell on the Destroyer Tsunami Wrath Which will then meet me and my fleet in the Nec System.

+++++

Castus, this is of the ut-most importance, you must complete this with ultimate secrecy, if the other Inquisitors get word of this they will try to stop you and place you, and your brothers under arrest and take you into custody.

May the Emperor watch over you,

Inquisitor Lord Xenthor,

+++ End Transmission +++

Castus glanced over at Cheif Librarian Kane, his steely green eyes locking with Kane's cold grey orbs, and that was all that needed to be said. Kane nodded his scared head and spoke in a low, scratchy voice,"When?". The Chaplain turned and faced Kane fully,"Before this time tommorow, i want to be in the Gwyan System." The Chaplains voice was cold and carried an extreme amount of power within it.

Kane nodded and turned abruptly, his long cape twisting behind him, as if in defiance, but quickly returned to its original form as he walked away, his footsteps echoing down the halls as he in turn headed towards the command deck.

With a gruffled sigh Castus turned once again and looked over into the shadowed side of the breifing room," I want you to get in contact with Epistolary Terrem upon the Strike Cruiser Valiant Retribution, i want to find out where he is going, and what his plans are. Although his own Inquisitor has been corrupted, he still has ties to the Ordo Xenos, and his power and Chapter brothers will be a great asset to have handy." A hooded figure stepped out into the light that projected into the room from the Garren star, and nodded before slipping out of the room in almost absolute silence, off to do it's masters bidding.

((Hope ya dont mind me twisting alittle, it will benefit both the Garren Crusade, aswell as my Chapters fluff.))

Iridium stood on the command deck of the Valiant Retribution, it had been hours since Terrem had opened his mind to the perils of the warp and still he had not awoken from his trance like state, the marine watched the Epistolary carefully for any sign of taint that may of filled his body, yet he was no psychic and could not of fathomed what was occurring in the mind of the Terrem.

Terrem was in fact at the end of his search, he had fought through time and space hunting down the rogue inquisitor yet he somehow felt he was no closer to discovery the true nature of the interest chaos and its minions had with the Garren system.

Terrem

Grandmaster Uriel had returned to the Unending vengeance, he stood quietly on the bridge, on his right was Master Chaplain Michael and to his left Master Librarian Zadiel. * Link to fleet complete Grandmaster* came the voice of one of the crew, *bring up vid-screen* said Uriel.

Screens across the fleet came alive, and Uriel spoke *Are orders have been given, we shall move on the second planet in the Suro system, we shall strike hard and fast and put these traitors to the torch. Remember the betrayal, these traitors have dammed us in the eye of the Emperor and the Lion*. Chaplain Michael stepped forward and he raised his voice to a roar the echoed through all ships,

*WE WILL HAVE ARE VENGENCE ON THESE TRAITORS!! THESE SCUM, THIS FILTH, WILL KNOW THE FIRE OF ARE HATE!! WE ARE THE VOICE OF THE EMPEROR AND HIS WORDS ARE DEATH!!! FAITH IS YOUR ARMOUR!! HATE IS YOUR WEPON!! AND HE IS YOUR SHIELD!!!* He sounded the battle cry *DEATH!!!!!!!* This was repeated by all brothers *DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

The angels fleet went into action and began to head for the Suro system

The Oracles Chaplain Ifuta stood back up.

"Since there was no prior claim, the Oracles will proceed to the system, Allic's Stop. We will reinforce Outpost 426, and investigate the system's planet, Ulexis."

"Inquisitor Kou, we will rendezvous at the outpost."

"Emperor be with you all."

The Chaplain of the Oracles turned and left the conference room. As soon as the doors closed, he voxed his ship, "Prepare the ships. We make way in 15." Three minutes later he was aboard the thunderhawk on the way to Glorious Duty.

Exactly 10 minutes 6 seconds later Glorious Duty and Shooting Star shattered the barrier between normal space and warp space, sliding through the gap.

edited due to Capt. Fuzball's later post

The bridge of the battle barge "Heaven's Fury" was silent, lexomahcanics and uniformed aides inhabited the cavernous command room, conversing with each other over holo maps and data slates full of tactical information, regarding the nearby systems and other space marine forces, but despite the duties they went about on, none did disturb the all pervading silence as they cast glances at the giant armoured figures standing in front of the armoured view port to the fore of the bridge.

Codicier Librarian, Uriel Arkantos stared out into the gulf of space, taking in the monstrous dock "Vengeance" and the crusade armada of over 20 space marine chapters. Heaven's Fury and her escort destroyers, despite several invitations to dock with the Vengeance, chose to stay on the of the Crusade fleet as per captain Marcus' orders. The council of the astartes leaders was finally over, and Captain Marcus was now on his way to the bridge to disscuss their next course of action.

He stood took a sep back from the viewport and turned to face the assembled veteran sergeants and the company chaplian, who were standing around the holo table, regarding the holographic tactical maps with keen gazes as they awaited their commanding officer.

Chaplian, Daimian Vex sensed the librarian looking at him and removed his gaze from the holo map to lock eyes with the psyker. His faec was horribly disconfigured; large scars crossed his face and the metal plate that made up half his skull was slightly visible under the hood of his dark red robes. He considered the Librarian with interest; the premonition the man foretold had become true, a crusade on the far side of the Imperium against the forces of the arch-enemy, sworn pacts between brothers of the blood, and the destruction of all if they failed.

but... the old marine sensed that there was more to the vision than what the librarian had told...

The doors suddenly hissed open, and everyone turned to regard Marcus as he walked purposefuly up to the table, a dark hooded servitor stood solemnly by his side, carring a large data slate, the glow from the device's view screen highlighted the unhealthy white of the servitors skin, making it appear to be more like a ghost...

Marcus passed his gaze over the assembled bretheren, "At ease, brothers".

Immediantly, the marines relaxed their postures.

"I finally have word from the council... we have been given the order to attack".

There were slight nods of approval from everyone present.

Marcus turned to the servitor and nodded, the creature tapped a code into the data slate and the holo map exploded into sharper focus, each of the sector's systems came into view, with arrows indicating Astartes fleet movements and further force dispositions.

"As you can see, our brothers have already began moving to the systems under the leadership of an inquistor of the Ordo Malleus..." he turned to the serivtor again, "play feed".

The holomap changed again, showing the assembled bretheren the data from the meeting, showing the layout of the worlds in 38 days time. The marines digested this information for amoment, awaiting for their captain to speak once again.

"We shall move to the Bracken system," continued Marcus, a map of a four planet system unfolded itself on the tactical map, "I will organise several strike forces to attack at key points on the first planet, the enemy is heavily entrenched, but if we strike quickly, we can grab a foothold until an inquistioral agent is dispatched to Bracken..."

The holo map disintigrated before the marines' eyes and the brethern stood to attention, "Prepare for battle brothers, we have 4 hours until we commence the first drop, and i am waiting for pending transmissions from other chapters who may be able to assist us in cleansing this sytem.."

"For the Emperor.." replied the brethern in unision, and the sergeants turned and left the bridge.

"Sergeant Van Gallieon, might we have a word with you?"

Veteran sergeant Lucas Van Gallieon stopped and turned to face the captain, Daimian, and Uriel. "Yes my Lords?" repiled the marine.

Marcus spoke first; We have been discussing this matter brother, it concerns you greatly".

"My Lord?" questioned the sergeant.

Marcus merely glanced across to Daimian, who spoken next, "Uriel has foretold many things about this crusade brother, but before we may begin, there is a small matter regarding your leadership and bravery.."

"Does my bravery and leadership hold me in question, my Lords?" asked the sergeant, standing to full attention.

"Fear not young brother," replied the Lirarian, "your leadership and bravery are not in question, which is why we have chosen to bestow this honour and responsibility upon you.."

It was at this moment that the veteran sergeant noticed several hooded figures behind him, each one carrying an artifact, one of which he instantly reconised. "My halberd?" it was his own weapon, though it had obviously been changed to a certain exent, masterfully recrafted with inlad gold and sliver, inscribed with scared writings and bedecked with purity seals. He glanced at another artifact his helm was also reforged in sliver and bore similar insriptions. The figures closed in on the stunned veteran sergeant, handing him his halberd, placing the helm on his head with a metalic click, purity seals were placed on his shoulder guards, a white and black over robe inscribed with numerous finehand texts was drapped over his chest plate and bluckled in place by an ornate, overlaying set of gold-trimmed armoured plates.

Lucas Van Gallieon, Crusade champion of the Blades of Delieverance turned to face his Lords, lowering to one knee as Daimian moved forward to anoint him with a chalice of holy waters and oils.

"What is your life?" intoned the chaplian,

"My honour is my life." repiled Lucas,

"What is your fate?"

"My duty is my fate."

"What is your fear?"

"My fear is to fail."

"What is your reward?"

"My salvation is my reward."

"What is your craft?"

"My craft is death."

"What is your pledge?"

"My pledge is eternal service."

"Arise" fished the chaplian.

Lucas stood to attention.

"Now," whispered the Uriel, "we are ready..."

Hi all

BLADES OF DELIVERANCE:

Index Astartes; the Blades of Deliverance_____________________

Far out on the eastern fringe, the Blades of Deliverance stand defiant against the threats of the Tyranid Hive Fleets and other unnamed horrors that dwell beyond the gulf of known space. Descended from the line of the Blessed Rogal Dorn himself, these warriors patrol the endless void and stand ready to answer the call of war from the Imperium, smiting the foes of the Emperor wherever in the Imperium they may hide.

Origins______________________________________________________________ ____________

Very little is known of the exact beginnings of the Blades of Deliverance, the earliest mentions in imperial history of the Chapter can be traced back to approximately 200 years after the death of Rogal Dorn. It begins with the liberation of Cordanus III; the human population had been under invasion from Ork raiders for approximately 50 years prior to imperial discovery.

Cordanus III was a very technologically advanced empire with no knowledge of the Imperium or the Emperor himself, and the population was corrupted by its own greed and ignorance of external threat. The empire had seen very little of war and conflict for many, many years and its armed forces were starting to show the signs of weakness that this age of peace had brought, each military institution was based in the same way as a knightly order, with ideals of honour, and dignity, but, it was thought that each one was slowly dieing out as the populace looked at each one in scorn at what was thought to be needless paranoia.

Records indicate that when the Orks did arrive, many of the military orders collapsed, under manned, under funded and unable to defend against the threat. As each of the remaining battle worthy orders were destroyed by the crushing numbers of the Ork Waaagh! it became apparent that Cordanus would be destroyed in a matter of years, the last remaining order to be recorded; the

Brother Captain Thor looked over the drop bay, watching with a grim satisfaction as his brothers did pre-battle rites. As always, a drop pod attack was risky, and fruaght with danger, but worth every second it bought his marines. Techmarines and their mind-wiped servitors moved over each of the pods, blessing each one. Though the Dragons Talon was still days out, Thor ran a tight ship. Everyone and everything was readied days before it was needed, and he kept his marines on alert almost non-stop.

Flexing his armoured guantlet, the lightning claw inert, Thor watched Squad Kalicss as they went around checking their heavy weapons. The old and reliable Isis-pattern Plasma Cannons were effecient weapons, held in high praise by the Marines who operated them. Not that the Adeptus Mechanicus cared. Tapping his bionic arm's metallic fingers on the railling, Thor watched, and he was proud.

'They will never know what hit them' Thor said.

'Aye Brother-Captain, we all know that' came the echoing reply from behind.

'Ah, Brother Tallic, you are awake then. It is good to see my old companion of old still able to fight with us' Thor turned and faced the Dreadnought.

'How long until we return to normal space Brother? The Ether... troubles me' the Dreadnought asked.

'The navigator says two more days, then we are we no longer in the Ether' Thor replied.

'Aye, it will feel good to have ground under me again. What manner of foe awaits us Thor?' That was the question that Thor didn't know the answer to. He had been given little intel on the suspected drop zone, and the manner of foe. His Company was going in blind.

'We will find out when we see what smears are left on the pods eh?' Thor said, his voice full of humour... well as much humour as a White Dragon space marine could muster.

Sorry Fuzzball, i need to post this myself... it makes more sense because of my independant chapter

The Death Guard Fluff:

Origins:

The legend which is Garro and the Eisenstein marines is one of myth and patched together fact and opinion. Captain Garro with his 12 remaining Death Guard marines, along with 58 other marines from 5 of the legions which turned against the emperor remained steadfast in His service. After seizing the Eisenstein, Garro and the remaining marines took word directly to Terra and the Emperor of the treachery which was unfolding. It is said that the Emperor took the warning of the Eisenstein marines and held the marines in custody for trial by the Emperor once the immediate threat had subsided, but during the atrocities they were to fight in the palace defence.

However, the end result of the Siege of Terra saw the emperor enshrined into the golden throne, and the trial never came to fruition. As the forces of Chaos retreated, Garros did not want to wait for any trial which may occur to him and his men. Praying the ship they had arrived to Terra was still operational; he called to his Strike Cruiser Fire-force and miraculously received a message back and called for emergency pickup. Because the orbital batteries being knocked out during the assault, Garros knew a small corridor where the ship could enter unopposed, and used it to maximum effect when that night they used the cover of darkness to escape, the thunderhawk came through orbit as Garros calculated and made good their escape. Once back at the ship he made for them to enter a warp stream and head out to the far eastern fringe where they could lick their wounds and consider their future.

Their ship re-entered space a year later where Garros and his remaining highest ranking commander, Veteran Sergeant Brayoan began talks of their future

VERY NICE KOBRAKI, anyway, more fluff :P :

Captain Iziha knelt to pray, his brothers waching him as he did so, uncertain of what he was doing. They had been moving to an ambush position to prepair for the imperndong attack, then he had stoped, knelt and prayed.

Chaplian Fezan looked on, he knew what Iziha was doing, and why. The Captain stood up, his usualy healthy face looked drawn and was as pale as a sheet.

'He is here' he said to Fezan his voice a wisper 'and he nows were I am'

'We must go on' the chaplain replied

'No! I will indanger the mission'

'Do not be a fool, if he comes after you here he knows that he will die'

'But he knows that the attack is coming' Iziha's voice was raised, almost shouting

'Do what you will' replied Fezan he voice cold as ice 'but you will die in shame'

Iziha shot Fezan a venomous look and picked up his bolter, he marched on

------------------------------------------------------

The marine chuckled, the Chaplain had been right, he wouldn't come after Iziha, not yet. But he knew were Iziha was and could tell others. He spoke into the vox.

-----------------------------------------------------

Xerian powered up his thunder hammer, it worled perfectly, so he de-energised it.

The drop pods were being loaded, the planet below didn't know they were here, about to bring doom on the heretics below, the black legion and cultists were as good as dead.

He climbed into his pod and gave the signal, the ship powered into life. Alerting the planets sensors for a moment, then the Drop Pods were launched.

Thats all

Cheers

'THE CAPTAIN B) '

(( Here's my new 'tiny' addition B) ))

Chaplain Castus stood before the glowing holo-screen on the Emperor's Right Hand's command deck. Before him was laid out every Chapters current position, and their destination. All around him, crewmen and servitors scrambled around, preparing the ship, and the rest of the fleet for departure for the Gwayn system. Behind him stood the Company Champion Zain, Cheif Librarian Kane, Aswell as Castus's hooded messenger. " Azaroth, report, what has Epistolary Terrem decided on doing...." His voice carried out, cold and powerful, and seemed to echo throughout the command deck.

Silently the hooded figure steped foward, his dark crimson cloak swirling around unseen limbs. When it spoke, its voice seemed to echo within the minds of those listening, faint as the wind, yet cruel and unforgiving much like its master's. "Lord Epistolary Terrem has pledged he and his men to your cause Master. Preperations to his fleet are being made as we speak, and will be ready in time for our jump into the Gwayn system." With that being said the hooded figure stepped silently back to his previous position.

Castus nodded and nodded towards a servitor, and it began to enter code into its data slate, the holo-screen before the Chaplain began to change, melt down and then reform itself into an image of the Gwayn system. " Brother Zain, Is everything ready for both our arrival in the system aswell as the upcoming battles?" His head turned slightly, looking back at the heavily armoured Marine.

Zain remained where he was and nodded, the topknot on his knightly helmet shifting from one side to the other," Yes m'lord, Everything is being prepaired, the other Battle Brothers are doing their pre-battle rights, the Techmarines are going around blessing each of the armour. Though we have yet to awaken The Old One's, You know how Brother's Krueger and Tines get before a jump if they are awake."

The Chaplain grinned inwardly and nodded," Aye that i do..." Brother Krueger and Brother Tines had been with the Guardians' since their innitial creation many a millenia ago, and had been key to countless victories against forces well numbered beyond their own. Brother Tines had grown close to Castus, as they had spent many a night sharing their knowledge, and as such he knew how much the Ancients had hated to be awake while travel through the warp was being made.

Returning his gaze back to the holo-screen infront of him Castus spoke again," Excellent, When we arrive in the Gwayn system, i want immediate communication blockage, and orbital control over the four planets, nothing goes in or out that isnt part of our forces. Nothing! I dont want those on the ground knowing of us untill its too late. Now go, and prepare for the battle ahead." With that, the hooded figure, Champion Zane, and Cheif Librarian Kane turned and began to leave the command deck.

"Librarian Kane, please remain...." The Chaplains voice was different now, there was a hint of something in it, something hidden. The mighty Librarian had turned around and was now standing just behind the Chaplain,"What troubles you Castus..."

The Chaplain reached down and flicked off the Holo-screen, letting the Command deck to darken once again." Your perception is, as always, excellent." Castus turned his head and looked back at the Librarian," Kane, tell me about what we're going into, what have you seen of this place." He knew that the Cheif Librarian had been having horrible visions, eminating from the Gwayn system, numerous times he had heard the mighty Librarian scream out from those very same visions.

Kane let out a long held sigh and placed his gauntleted hand on the Chaplains shoulder pad," What i have seen is not in our Emperor's favour, nore our own. Somewhere within those planets lay's our objective, but it is not alone...." Kane paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts and memories of those visions," Behind the evil that lays seige on that system is a greater evil, One you have faced before....I can tell you no more." Dropping his armoured hand from the shoulder pad of the Chaplain the Cheif Librarian turned and moved swiftly, leaving the Command Deck and Castus with his thoughts.

So he was here, it did not surprise Castus, numerous times he had faced this single foe, and everytime he had eluded the Chaplains deadly grasp. Not this time though, this time he would end this foes reign of terror.

Space blistered. The blister expanded and streched then burst spewing light and two ships. Reality bled back into the gap leaving no trace of the protuberance. The two ships sliced through space toward the lone planet. As they neared the planet Shooting Star dropped behind Glorious Duty and then matched speed. Glorious Duty plunged into the thin stratosphere, drawing a line of fire across the night sky of Utlexis. The Shooting Star quietly slips into orbit on the daylight side of the planet.

Ulexis was fairly ubiquitous. It could be any of thousands upon thousands of worlds under the authority of the Emperor. Most of the world was frozen poles with a band of temperate climate near the equator. An agricultural world, it provided little in the way of export or tithe. But it was a world of the Imperium of Man, and therefore under the protection of the Emperor.

Chaplain Ifuta commanged "Contact outpost 426". Moments later, Veteran Sergeant Celruda was on the Vox. "Master of Santity, Ifuta of the Oracles chapter of Adaptus Astartes. We are here to answer your call for reinforcement and to bring judgement on the enemies of the Emperor."

"Your answer to our call is most welcome, Chaplain. Landing pad coordinates are being transmitted. I look forward to speaking with you in person." Unexpectedly, the coorinates indicated the southern pole of the planet.

Forty-three minutes later, Chaplain Ifuta and a squad of Space Marine veterans had landedd at the outpost. It appeared a fairly standard outpost for an artic region. The aurora was shining brightly. The thunderhawk was towed off to a sheltered hanger to be serviced and refuled. Chaplain Ifuta and the veterans of the Oracles chapter were led to a small conference room. Veteran Sergeant Gable started the debriefing, outlining the post's full complement of PDF forces, the percentage that was left, what posts were being stationed, which posts were being guarded by servitors. Overall it was a much more bleak picture than Vet. Sgt. Celruda had indicated. Of the post's complement of 300, only about 100 still survived. The Colonel and all officers above the rank of Veteran Sergent had died in the attack. The outpost was an astropathic listening post, placed in the antartic to move it away from the noise of the local population. Fortunatly all of the astropaths had survived the attack. But the defenses would not withstand another determined assault.

Ifuta ordered the veterans to inspect the defenses and provide written advisories for reinforcing the defense. Vet. Sgt. Celruda, now acting Lt. Celruda, asked Ifuta to join him in the previous Colonel's, now his, office. The office showed signs of previous decadance. There were voids on the walls where pictures, awards, hangings, and other decoration had been removed. In thier place was hand drawn organizaiton charts, maps, a list of new security procedures, and other information needed for the tactical command of the outpost. Waiting in the room was also a spindly man in rich robes.

"This is Master Astropath Amos" introduced Lt. Celruda. The astropath bowed slightly. Ifuta returned the gesture with a nod. "The following is held as Secret level Azure-2. I have only become aware of it after the death of the Colonel. Amos..."

"This is no ordinary astropathic listening post. It is a whole array of astropaths and navigators arranged around the antartic in a pattern set out by Ordo Xenos. Each of the astropaths are connected using psyco-active circuitry. The post was designed to track the warp shadow of the Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan. Hive Fleet Kraken taught us that we must antcipate the moves of this Xenos plague. The survival of this listening post is vital to the survival of the Imperium. Four months ago, we discovered a subtle pattern in the warp. We sent off the information to Ordo Xenos. It appears that they, in turn, passed the information to Ordo Maleus." said Amos

"Two months ago, we recieved a message from Inquisitor Kreil, of Ordo Maleus. He instructed us to prepare for an attack, but failed to specify the enemy. The Colonel did nothing! He did not warn us! He did not shore up the defenses! He did not set patrols! He did nothing!" raged Lt. Celruda. " After the Colonel died, I became aware of the importance of this post, the signal, and the message. I have done the best I could with the resources available. I have set patrols, improved the watches, closed the entrances that could no longer be defended. We welcome any help you can provide, Chaplain." said Lt. Celruda, calming down again.

"We will do all that we can, Leutenant." replied Chaplain Ifuta. The Chaplain extended his hand to the acting Leutenant. The leutenant's hand was engulfed in the space marine's gauntlet, but was heartily accepted.

The blood feud between the Expungers and the Yel Vipers Space Marines chapters is well documented with several bloody engagements most notably the events leading to the Scourging of Yel Secondrus. Originally a minor disagreement about tactical doctrine the diplomatic relations between the two chapters slowly deteriorated over the centuries into tense and wary silence. When during war council the Yel Vipers gruffly refused to modify their practices to what the Expungers believed to be the correct behaviour for Adeptus Astartes the then Chapter Master Jalil pointed out the long list of the Expunger
