Starks333
Ok so obviously i didnt get things done for the due date i had going for myself, mostly because i couldnt afford the ticket after my computer magically broke itself and cost me $350.... i ended up buying forgeworld pieces  ill post some up to date pictures later in the thread as i get them in! TIPS: DONT ASSEMBLE VEHICLES WITH LOTS OF GLUE, MAKES TAKING THE PARTS(aka doors) OFF VERY HARD...... i still cant decide on a list which has slowed me... anyways, new pictures will follow...and PLEASE...comment at will(negative positive whatever) Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/ Share on other sites

HuronBH
The secret I found to getting armies done fast is to build a paint guide while painting you test models and if you add more colors to the scheme as you are painting the army. I use an index card. As I paint a model I paint a small amount onto the card then fill in the exact mix of how I achieve the color so that my colors will always match later on. It makes ink washes and hilighting take much less time to get just right too. Good luck, you should be able to accomplish this. Just set some time asside each week to do it and stick to it. -jay Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1013749 Share on other sites

Master Chaplain Astador
Good luck. I painted 1500 points in 14 hours, so you should have plenty of time to paint 1700 in 24 days. Which reminds me. I should finish up that army and do their bases. I also should update that thread. Good luck again. Cheers, MCA. iamfanboy
Check the thread stickied at the top of the forum - "Quantity has a Quality all its own" for ideal quick painting. Heck, I'll link you - Quantity has a quality all its own Since you could paint 2000 points in 30 days using those tips, you should well be set for painting a mere 1700. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1014058 Share on other sites

blamb
do all the characters and vehicles first. (i tend to prefer painting centerpieces over regular everyday minis, this way you get it all out of the way and aren't tempted leter on, and people would tend to look at the army's centerpieces when deciding if it is a good paint job) set asside a pile to do and do them in sections (ie. have a pile say with the characters, terminators and a vehicle, paint them then make a new pile of maybe a few of the marines (1 or 2 squads) do all of one colour in each pile before going onto another take a break if you feel your getting tired or bored, don't try to push yourself (i sometimes keep going when i get to this stage and the skills start to slip) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1014071 Share on other sites
Starks333
ust an update of what i have done the past 2 days, nothing is finished, ive just been doing the main colours and cleaning mould lines and building and such http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0633.jpg *** the little container has an old school terminator i have up for conversion to a newer looking model and to give me the second assaul cannon (begins rant about the stuipd setup for weapons in the box) like really...we cant buy individual models with certain weapons why not give us the extra weapon??? anyways, ya so i have a bunch to go, need to find a way to paint the tanks, regal blue and my big brush dont like each other (never buying gw brushes evr again even when im desperate again) its slowly shaping up :) ill post more as i go Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1014805 Share on other sites

miniaturepainter
I would suggest doing the chipping and battle damage after you have them or most painted, seems your making good progress. :P MP Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1016640 Share on other sites
Starks333
do you think i should continue with this conversion? its an ork arm shaved down, ork weapon...and i plan on GS ing either a gauntlet, using the lower half of a marine arm, or just leaving it skin maybe i should leave the conversion for after my time restrictive painting period? ****edited pictures, decided to go with marine piece, and use marine weapon http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0665.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0664.jpg and that model really needs stripping... Starks333
Crimson Fists, so i wanted to add some orkyness to them to show preferred enemy(even though i dont have the trait in use) it also adds character to the vets(which he is) i need to find something to cover where the arm joins the body, as the shoulder part looks a bit off, and the torsos just arent made for non power armour parts joining...hmmmm also i think im going with the marine forearm, and i think ill make it look like the power armour was torn off/cut whatever i may not use the ork weapon, its really big and i dont think i like it...inspiration was from Dave Taylors command squad variant on the GW site Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1017237 Share on other sites
Starks333
just an update, i have everything cleaned and primed except 3 models that need stripping(and possibly a couple of the command squad members) i still have a few backpacks to paint on the ones in the photo http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0668.jpg after i have everything's basic colours on, im going to start highlighting and painting on the badges, and figure how to do better muddyness, along with possibly adding in painted battle damage, right now im cut/drilled chunks for battle damage, i think im going to paint chips etc ***OHHH and should i paint the black extra armour on the dread blue? or leave it black? also should i leave the weapons black with metal on the tips from gheat etc? Starks333
ok so heres a librarian im working on: - adding celestines halo to a marine back pack - cutting off purity seal on hand - filing down the cross guard (so its not so odd looking) - Greenstuffed a Fist and plate to the book, plan on doing cracked stone effect - considering sculpting bigger chain for the book as it looks kinda funny right now - i also dont like the ugly seals on his shoulder pad, unsure of what to replace them with(if anything?) - plan on doing extensive freehand on him, unsure of what, ideas appreciated colour scheme: purple robe, blue armour, may do gold/silver trim might not, sword im thinking will be scorpian-ish green my problem is that i have purple blue red hands and now green, might be too striking, hopefully it will work nicely together Heres a quick shot(yes i know its out of focus..) after the GS book, the pr full -conversion look, more for a general idea http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0865.jpg annnnd heres a dreadnought ive been working on(slowly) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0867.jpg im cutting out plasticard pieces to adjust the shoudler slots to the right spacing to meet with the distance taken up by the extra armour, i also plan on extending the torso to make it a bit taller...havent decided on details whether or not i want to sculpt onto it or not, the big maw is to orkify my army a bit as i am after all ork hunters, its just left over sprue from some chaos box set(credit goes to Morfesto) the door on the base will be blended in later, its leftover from the mad "tear apart my rhinos" fest we had as i needed to remove them for my forgeowlrd order  i think i will be adding extra plating to the groin/hip area like was suggested to me in my extra armour thread(too lazy for link) ****ill slowly be adding pictures as i need to gather things and not take bad photos  Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1060508 Share on other sites
Starks333
Army Shot(minus vehicles) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0869.jpg ***only one model is actually finished(the one with all the details on him(pointing powerfist guy) but right now i just want all the base colours on and things assembled http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0871.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0872.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0873.jpg ***the vehicles are all getting repaired and the forgeworld pieces installed, i sitll have to clean the extra armour i bought before i attach it, i plan on copying the armour with plasticard now that i have the forgeworld ones to replicate, i also am waiting to receive my vindicator, and i need to purchase a Commander model, another predator, a tactical squad, sniper marines, annnnd i think thats it, and then i have really nothing else to buy(other than maybe a second vindicator) in order to do any version of my lists not much to really comment on for you guys yet(well except the libby and dread, and simply giving out random ideas) Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1060546 Share on other sites
Morfesto
Let me tell you, removing the doors off a rhino after Starks333 glues it on is not easy  . The sponson covers were even harder. Starks333
so my vehicles have hit a bit of a snag, the FW doors(and regular ones) wont fit the reinforced armour, about 1/4 of a mm too big all around, the front plate window cover doesnt fit into the slots for the FW front plate either, so i emailed asking them about it, if i have to fix it myself then thats fine, but i figured id message them to see if they could maybe check it themselves to save everyone from trouble? i donno anyways, got the extra armour on right now, the batteries for my camera are charging(which i forgot) i need to GET FILES!....arg, im trying to work on some stuff like the dreadnought but i dont have files..my cousin lost them on me!... so i have a bit of removing work on the libby, getting rid of those ugly ill-placed purity seals, trying to figure out how to attach Celestines halo to his backpack, and thinking about what kind of freehand i want on him, Fists dont strike me as very fancy, but Librarians do...which is why the Libby's retinue is going to be robed up as well, they will look nice and special, i might even fancy up his Land Raider(non crusader) i also have three objective markers to do, two are guaranteed to be ammo crates i bought off forgeworld as CF are short on supplies so it makes sense for ammo to be an objective i figured, im considering a banner for the third, but i may end up just doing another ammo one, ideas? once i get the camera powered up ill take some shots of the vehicles, they are still basic just with forgeworld pieces on em :P OH and i was thinking about what to use for a heavy flamer on my land speeders? - sisters heavy flamer off immolator? - heavy flamer with bag thingy from IG tank sprue? - order them? im already converting a land raider assault cannon to fit my other tornado(as i dont want to mail order from the US for one piece...and i dont think canada has started the full selection of bitz orders yet) ++++++edited, before and after shots of me figuring out only one pair of extra armour door things are too small+++++++ BEFORE(finished pred): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0874.jpg AFTER(no finished pred :(): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0880.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0881.jpg **i was thinking of Plasticarding some extra armour on the front part because it looks a bit bare now witht he sides upped Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1061117 Share on other sites
Starks333
just some WIP shots of the librarian, i carved away at his shoulder scrolls, and im adding in one of the shoudler shoudler papers, its not done i need to do another layer unless you think i should leave it? it does look thin right now which is good...hmmmm....i also re-did the sword's blade on the shoudler pad as i had to cut it off when cleaning the pad up i think i might bulk up the chain attached to the book hanging from his belt... or fix it at least, looks awkward right now, i still need to figure out how to connect the halo to the back pack and then fix the crossguard on the sword and clean off the ugly purity seal on his hand ;) other than some minor cleaning he will be ready to paint after the above mentioned here are pics: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0882.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0888.jpg ***can see the book a bit more clearly, the chain looks odd doesnt it? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0891.jpg ***heres a shot that shows the back back, how do you think i should connect the halo? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Crimson%20Fists/HPIM0895.jpg Starks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87766-crimson-fists/#findComment-1061469 Share on other sites
