CONVERTED MARINE BIKE.

Recommended Posts

So... youre going to make a bike that is about the length of a rhino.. and half the width...

Its a cool bike, but it won't be easy, you'll want to look at some of the Akira inspired bikes and use some eldar/tau bits.

mind you kenada's bike is still the definition of "Cool Anime Bike".

Heck no. The Hound Unit attack bikes in the "Venus Wars" manga are the epitome of cool anime bike. A one-ton monster with a large bore cannon, pair of HEAT missiles and twin machinguns for anti-personnel use with provision for mission specific designs? Come on, Beornling! ;)

Ok, it seems I'm haven't got all the parts I need to make another Raptor yet, so I wont be getting that tutorial on how to build it up for a while.

As a compensation I've dug up the old images of the prototype.

Here you go:

Hope that helps a bit.

I will try to get a bits list posted tomorrow.

Ok, I finally got around to making the parts list for the Velosio Raptor.

Its not the cheapest conversion - lots and lots of bits.

The rear shock absorber is already part of the main hull

Here we go:

The Velosio Raptor Command Bike

None GW Parts:

Mattel's HotWheels Thundercycles

http://www.racegrooves.com/hb/fea/_img/HW/...derCycles20.JPG

Used for the main body.

You need to take it apart, cut out the driver and make a new seat for your marine in greenstuff.

Also cut part of the front of to hold the eagle head.

Pizza Cardboard box holder

The plastic thing they put in the middle to keep the cardboard box from dipping down on the pizza.

I cut it up and used two of the top pieces to extend the front and hold the front wheel in place.

Plastic Price tag loop or a thin wire usable as an antenna

A cool looking plate to have on both sides of the front wheel.

I only had one, so I only used it on one side, but it should be on both.

I'm not sure what the plate I used was, but I'm sure you can find something suitable at your local hobby store or in GW's range of model kits.

Greenstuff.

For modeling the cockpit seat and smooth out any holes etc you want to remove.

GW Parts:

One Ork Warbuggy

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...3006&orignav=10

You will need the wheels (listed below) from this.

You will also need to cut of the plates used to step up into the rear of the Buggy. - These go on the sides of the bike's cockpit.

In the cockpit itself, the steering wheel / levers also come from from the Buggy.

Also from the Ork WarBuggy:

Large Tyred Wheels

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...9033&orignav=10

You need two of these to form up the rear tyre.

Small Wheels

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...9034&orignav=10

You need one of these for the front tyre.

For the front eagle head of the bike, I used "Great Eagle head 3" from the WFB range:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...00805&orignav=9

Now on to the Marine Parts:

WEAPONS:

The Bikes regular weapons are mounted on the bikes front, these are:

A flamer (optional) to be found on the Space Marines weapon accessories sprue:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...1025&orignav=10

A Heavy Bolter (optional) to be found here:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...1218&orignav=10

One front mounted Storm Bolter as can be found on the Rhino accessories kit, or on other models in the Space Marine range. - It is worthy of note that at the time I made the prototype I didn't have the extra Storm Bolters for the front and rear mount, so I used two bolters welded together instead.

For the mounting of the rear storm bolter you will need a bit of sprue to get it out at an angle - I used a suitable cut-off piece from the Ork Warbuggy.

The Velosio Raptor is a VDR Vehicle and counts as a tank rather than as a regular bike, due to this I let it have all the normal Space Marine Tank upgrades accessible.

That means you will need the Rhino tank accessory sprue for the radar dish (extra comms), the smoke launchers, the searchlight, the Storm Bolter and the Hunter Killer Missile on the back of the bike.

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...1004&orignav=10

The extra armour upgrade isn't shown on the bike, but I think an enclosed cockpit would look cool for this.

EXTRA EQUIPMENT & ACCESSORIES:

I figured a leader may need extra ammo, extra equipment like maps, supplies for his men, repair kits for the bike etc. so the bike is equipped with the following pouches:

Scout bike saddle bags:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...21908&orignav=9

The pouch that comes with the plastic Space Marine attack bike:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...1030&orignav=10

I also figured the bike rider may need to stow away his weapon, or have an extra weapon.

I cant seem to find the holstered Bolter I used for the original, but you could always use the Attack Bike version found here:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...07704&orignav=9

or the Scout version with more equipment as seen here:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...21907&orignav=9

An Auspex was used as a control and auspex unit on the controls of the bike.

A chainsaw without the handle was used as a wire-cutter on the bike so the driver isn't vulnerable to people stringing up wires across the road in the hopes of cutting the drivers head of.

Purity seals and Crux terminatus markings where used to adorn the bike as suitable.

I'm sure that if your a Space Marine player you will have plenty of these.

I also used purity seals from Forgeworld, as can be found here:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATE...SSORIES_29.html

Finally, THE BIKE RIDER

will need bikers legs and arms as can be found here:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...1002&orignav=10

Or you might be able to use the old Attack Bike sidecar rider as found her:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...07708&orignav=9

All in all the rider will be a Character and should be quite unique, so I trust you will figure out the head, torso and weapons etc. for yourself.

Well, that's all. - Hope someone shows images here and gives me a PM if you make one. ;)

Cheers!

  • 1 year later...
I've done some bikes I call the Strega Class bikes based on Starcraft Vultures. I've got bikes in my galleries if you want to check them out. My newer one, the one with the Chaplain riding it, is the best so far I'd say. I plan on making one with a Librarian in the near future.
