Progress (of sorts!)

med_gallery_93054_12142_194986.jpg

So the Cobalt Alchemy wasn't quite as blue as I was expecting, and didn't go on quite as smooth as I'd hoped (airbrush made a horrid stuttering noise), but they look ok, especially at a distance.

med_gallery_93054_12142_250067.jpg

Now people rave about the Tamiya clear paints, but can I get away with just using Drakenhof Nightshade as the next layer, or do I have to go to the hobby shop? Backpack below shows a homemade green on the left (too green) and Drakenhof on the right - but terrible photos sorry.

med_gallery_93054_12142_130266.jpg

Oh and the curse struck again. The squad is a man down because he fell off during priming, his arm broke, and the arm fell down a crack between boards. Screwdriver required for rescue.

Anyway, advice appreciated, especially from @Kizzdougs who I am (sort of) copying.

I humbly submit for you edification my first completed Vow

Cheers

Vogon

Well done Vogon, a great shade of *whatever this colour is* for the Alpha Legion armour. The tanks and the decals look superb to me... Well done sir and good luck with your follow-up vow!

UPDATED TO THIS POINT!

I love those checkerboard shoulder pads aias. I might have to steal that for a few models. This past week has been rough in painting, but it’ll be good to paint tomorrow.

Feel free to do so! It's a fun thing to see on models, though I will admit the easiest way to do it is with some Shapeways pads that model the checks for you. Freehanding them is rewarding, but it's rough, and I wish they were a little cleaner.

So my fellow frater! What do we have on the cards for future possible vows (if we plan on multiple vows!)

I know when I have time, but not enough for a painting session, I work on building some actual infantry, not copious amounts of tanks

Time for my second vow!

I, Kizzdougs, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX on the side of the AoD-T and vow to complete 1 Legion Praetor (mounted on a Space Marine bike and wielding a Paragon Blade) of total value of 150pts on or before August 1st, 2018. Success will bring me eternal glory and failure will doom me to wear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end. Lupercal!

It's been a while since I've posted on these forums but these painting challenges always get me into a painting mood. So I feel it is the right time to dust (pun potentially intended) off my Thousand Sons and pledge to reinforce the Warmaster's cause.

I Archidamus, representative of the 9th Fellowship's Circle of Achaem-2, Circle of Amhu-39, Circle of Boreal-11, and the Circle of Shattered Stars-1, XV Legion, the Thousand Sons, pledge to complete the following units:

  • Thousand Sons Praetor 215 Points
    • Cataphractii Terminator Armour
    • Force Weapon
    • Mastery Level 3
  • Sekhmet Terminator Cabal 255 Points
  • Ammitara Occult Intercession Cabal 145 Points
    • Nuncio-Vox
  • total = 615 Points

Failure to uphold this vox will cause me the wear the badge of the oathbreaker, and probably get turned into a spawn by Tzeentch or censured by the Space Wolves, again.

med_gallery_88327_11336_87972.jpg

I intend to mark out the mastery level of the praetor by using the Thousand Sons transfers and using the glyph markings from both the Forge World sheet and the one from BoP. If it starts to look like too much I'll reduce the mastery level to the mandatory level 1. With no way to really represent asphyx shells or a master crafted weapon I opted to leave them out of this vow.

The recon marines are what I'm using as my Ammitara mostly because I'm not fond of the scout models. My current reasoning is that the armour is either stripped down, somewhat like how the Reivers look, or the marines are using their powers to obfuscate the fact they're in scout armour.

Hail, in the name of the Warmaster!

It seems that we still require more resources to take the fight to the Emperor's lapdogs. So, I, Vykes, marshal of recruitment for the Warmaster's own 65th company, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX on the side of the Age of Darkness to support of the Warmaster. For the glory of the Lupercal and his court, I vow to raise a force of astartes numbering one score and fifteen:

  1. Breacher squad Resolute has been raised. Sergeant Immarez reports two melta gun specialists in addition to sixteen legionnaires and an honoured legionnaire bearing the squad's Vexillia for a total strength of one score. (20 Breachers+2 meltaguns+Power Fist+Vexilla=410)

  2. Command is granted to Centurion Khodire of the 17th independent reavers. The honoured centurion has brought his power glaive Ghast, but requisitioned a plasma pistol from our armories. (Centurion+Plasma pistol+Power Weapon=80)

  3. Centurion Khodire has assembled a small unit of five Reavers with pistols and chainaxes. (5 Reavers+5 chainaxes=140)

  4. Furthermore, two Rapier graviton gun carriages and their attendant gunners have been pledged to the warmaster's service. (150)

  5. A further five seekers have been inducted into the 16th legion's ranks in order to counteract the growing threat of enemy sabotage units under direct command of strike commanders (5 seekers+ 5 combi-melta=205)

The forces raised have a requisition index of 985, and I vow to have these forces at the Warmaster's disposal on or before 01 583 018 M.3 (August 1st of antiquity). Success will bring me eternal glory, failure will doom me to wear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end.

Into the fire, unto ashes, onto glory! Lupercal!

Alt pic, 'cause oye! http://i68.tinypic.com/2wd3r0o.jpg https://imgur.com/a/oZvlh1A

I got finished all of the assembly and such and was just stepping out to the garage to prime them when I thought “Why the frig don't I make this worth while?! I'm gonna do em anyway...” So yeah, figured I'd join ya lot! Already planning out my second vow which'll include the armour and the like! I managed to misplace a single lower leg set for my 5th seeker, but I'll make sure to snap one up and take some pictures of 'em right quick. Most of the lot have already got a layer of zenithal primer on 'em by the time this goes up!  Ignore the 10 escher gangers on the side, they're just Cthonian militia  (Cultists for my 40K army group... getting sick and tired of dispatching 20 legionnaires to go piddle around the sacred mechanicus relic pop machine in the back field when they should be trying to get close and kill loyalists!)

As an off note, did anyone notice a bit of weird resin if they've been snagging breachers or the like?  Because this stuff wants to fight me more than anything else I've done in a long while.  I didn't get that last time I ordered some for Iron Warriors.... and if anyone is somehow shorted, like, an extra upgrade set worth of Sons of Horus helmets and pauldrons for whatever reason in their order, I am truly sorry.  FW shipped me an extra set.

@ Kizz: Well, a second one! Keep going man, always a pleasure to look at your work!

@ Archidamus: Some Thousand Sons then eh? RE: the mastery levels, well thought out man - and totally in the spirit of the ETL! Good luck!

@ Vykes: Another Master of Recruits (of sorts)? Welcome to the ETL mate! Just to point out that the pic is not showing... is it me or there is something wrong with the source?

THIS IS THE LAST WEEKEND OF THE RECRUITMENT PERIOD - MAKE THE MOST OF IT!

UPDATED TO THIS POINT!

Might as well get in while I still can!

I, LetsYouDown, rise to the challenge of E Tenebrae Lux on the side of the Warmaster in this Age of Darkness, and vow to complete the manufacture of a Cerastus Knight-Castigator frame with the Occular Augmetics upgrade for a total value of 390 points, on or before August 1st, 2018. Success will bring glory to the sovereign forge-fane of Xana and further guarantee our independence from the false Omnissiah. Failure will force me to bear the Badge of the Oath-breaker until the year's end, and bring shame to our name in the eyes of the Warmaster.

Here's this dude, sub-assemblies all pinned and tacked together for your benefit:

@Captain Semper. Hah, thanks mate, glad to be on board. Figured I might as well do something, eh? Well, I tossed up an extra tinypic link aaaand an imagur mirror so it should work now. And got a few Wips so all fun. Not great right now, I'll be sure to snap some better pictures and update this post when I do.

Well, did a bit of work on my first vow, got the better part of 20 breachers, 2 rapiers, and a few seekers mostly sorted. Huh, sure hoping this doesn't double post (waited 10 minutes to make sure, but yeah).  Anyway, tomorrow is Reaver day I think!

Rapiers “Scorn”

9Eilq0G.jpg

Well, I forgot the little grav canisters and the periscope bits, but I'm not too worried about that yet... irritated yes, worried, no. I keep wanting to shave off the little back standy platforms... they may grow on me, but for the moment I really just don't like them.

Seekers

FwpLupL.jpg

Miscounted and have to scrounge up another combi bolter, sure I can find one laying around somewhere.

Breachers "Resolute"

xMziXCc.jpg

Decided I'll make the sergeant's plume red. Blasted golden pauldrons never show up well but that's likely my fault anyway. Probably just bite the bullet and snag another transfer sheet (I've been using it as a way to limit the size of my armies, honestly) and redo them.

Edited: because what's a sergenant?

Might as well get in while I still can!

Wow! That is some project there LetsYouDown... Goodluck - can't wait to see it done!

@ Vykes: Really like this pale take on the SoHs.... I personally go for a fairly vivid sea green whereas you go for a green "smoke" approach. Very different and very VERY nice!

THIS IS THE CUT-OFF FOR THE WEEKLY UPDATE - EVERY VOW OR COMPLETION REPORTED BEYOND THIS POINT WILL COUNT FOR NEXT WEEK'S UPDATE.

UPDATED TO THIS POINT!

Reaver day has come and gone.... and is success, yaz!  5 Reavers and the Centurion.

Memo to self, less pictures at 9 o'clock at night.  I've still got a touch of work to go in prettying things up and likely I'll have to add another layer of gemming on the eyes as they're hard to see in person and impossible to see there.  Anyway, I'll be sure to get a final Vow 1 picture as soon as I get my last model done (and some multiple views on that sorta non descript totally not-Calth chaplain). All I've got left is a single, lone, blasted Seeker.  But I scrounged up the leg bits for it so I'll be sure to get a final assembly of the one dude and after.

@Captain Semper, aye, thanks mate!  Actually I always found the FW scheme to be 'odd' in so far as my brain always said 'sea green' was 'mint green'.  So seeing FW's black and jade/sea green was a shock... I love it, but it never quite stuck as traditional.  The little bit in Betrayal's section mentioning Terrans with lighter colourations and Cthonians with the darker colours was a pretty fun touch! I'll admit, I do miss vivid colours, but that's I guess why I had to go Blood Angels as loyalists.

Ok so I'm super late to the party - not sure I'll get much more than one pledge done but here goes!

I Der H rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX with my Traitor Emperor's Children in the Age of Darkness and vow to complete 6 Scimitar Jetbikes as a Sky Hunter Squadron, with a sky Hunter Sgt with Phoenix power spear of total value 270 points on or before August 1st, 2018. Success will bring me eternal glory and failure will doom me to wear the Badge of the Oathbreaker and bring shame upon my Legion.
