  1. Chaplain nearly finished. That was taken earlier with the sun shining in. All that's left on him to finish is the right shoulder pad and paint the rim of the base and the bead chain around his left wrist. Also 3 inceptors
  2. I like that you've used the chaos warrior legs for these. I'm sure I've seen them on someone's word bearers on here years ago and some death guard recently but seeing them on Imperial space marines is innovative. Leaving the boots as they are, to me has made these different rather than ruin the look and has made a nice mix of medieval and tech. The colours on your sword brethren terminators are nice and give off a good knightly order vibe.
  3. Thank you for the comment Ondig. Yellow is a nice way to break up the black and white. In other news had problems with my eye again so not much more in the way of prgress. I've currently got 10 reivers base coated with various attempts at highlighting that are not going too well as I can't focus on the details too well at the moment. I'm taking a break on them for a while and started painting up a chaplain instead on the sprue using drybrushing for access and so I can help with focus.. It may look a bit dusty at the moment but I can see this a lot better so can tidy up the dustiness much more easily. I've left the coat unpainted for the moment as I'm considering trying to do it like a Knights Templar thing. It might look completely wrong in grimdark but there's no harm in trying. And I've decided on the crusade's heraldry too. (Dead marine in progress) That on the right kneepad is nearly my own family's heraldry there are supposed to be some details in the black stripe but that would be too small to paint so I've left that out. Going on from that I also have an idea for the crusade's banner when it comes to painting that!
  4. Nice cleanly painted dreadnoughts and the little additions to the contemptor's shoulders nicely fill up those blank spaces. The numbers on the rhinos are a touch that I wouldn't have thought of doing that seem practical and fit in. In my opinion it's a nice start . (except the librarian dreadnought sarcophagus, it makes me twitch)
  5. Thank you for the great comment Sword Brother Ryan. To be honest I never think my models look that great but then under a camera with flash on they do look a lot better, it must be my vision or the lighting I have. Still it's a great boost to my confidence in my abilities when someone compliments me. Anyway Centurions nearly done I added a hand drawn templar cross to both shoulders and the white circles in the sergeant. It was a bit messy initially so I tidied them up with paint. Oh no the pen has now smudged, so swapped for a brass etch on the right. Just need to add scripture and tidy the rims. And I've got this on the go There's a white kneepad that's it.
  6. My eye gradually got better over the week and I've made good progress on the centurions. Even though I'm just copying Maxime's centurions, I'm actually enjoying painting templars like this.
  7. Unfortunately not much in the way of progress this week. It would've been 3 assault centurions which are nearly stuck together. Unfortunately I damaged my eye on saturday evening at work so couldn't really finish sticking stuff together let alone start painting. The ironic thing is that I was really waiting for this weekeknds releases and was going to pick them up on sunday but I spent most of saturday night in hospital (the apothicarium!) which is near where I was going to pick up my stuff sunday morning!
  8. Captain Gero, stripped of his armour and wearing only tabard, knelt in submission on the cold stone floor. Of where he could not tell due to being blindfolded and any guesses he could make were limited by his lack of knowledge of his hosts culture. He could however tell that there were multiple active power armour units forming a semi circle to his front about 10 metres away, between 15 and 20 and large audience of humans or post humans behind. One power armoured individual in a helmet front and centre spoke. "Captain Gero. Despite the objections and concerns of my brothers assembled here, you and your brothers have proven that your force would be an asset of great value to the crusade." His voice through the distortion of his helmet's loudspeaker clearly shown the authority he had over his brethren. "By my title as Marshal of the Leutwin Crusade I welcome you into our ranks. Will you pledge your service and accept the templar cross?" "I shall serve until death and accept the templar cross to be branded onto my flesh in honour of the Leutwin crusade, the Black Templars chapter and the Emperor." "Present your hands", Gero lifted his arms out in front of him. Two humans came forth from what could be heard and a pair of heated tongs were applied to each hand and after ten seconds released, branding both sides of them and even though pain of branding was lost on him, he understood the significance of it. "In accepting the templar cross you have vowed an oath to carry on the traditions of of the first High Marshal and first Emperor's Champion Sigismund. You shall purge the heretic, beware the mutant and psyker and abhor the alien, your duty to this shall be unending. Your belief in the immortal emperor will be unwavering as shall your faith in his power. Your prior duties to the crusade have proven your worth to the crusade, may the bonds between you and your battlebrother of the crusade go unbroken. Inform your company that they shall undertake their oaths on the morrow and the dedication of wargear will take place the following. You are dismissed but are not freed from being blindfolded until the sword brothers accompanying you have said so." Two power armoured brothers approached, each one knelt down and moved to support the primaris captain under each arm to help him get up on to his feet and gently led him away. Previous blindfolded walks were, much less pleasant bordering on hostile. Ok so it seems at the moment all that I'm doing is the primaris marines, well yes it is but I want to get them out of the way and I'm trying out stuff on them. That's kind of symbolised in the story above by the blindfolding as I haven't got many brothers that I'd consider done yet so I couldn't describe them in the story. I wanted to show that the primaris aren't an official part of the chapter but have joined in and will follow a normal codex titles (Captain, sergeant, etc). Also I'm a slow painter! Nearly finished captain Gero and the other 5 primaris Intecessors
  9. No more yellow now. I decided on the all black templar force. These have been done following Maxime's tutorial and then washed with nuln oil that has not been shaken to give a glossy look. And to see how it looks on vehicles and to get an idea of adding different colours I also did a stormhawk. I don't have the cloud attack transfers so I can't copy that but I've got some micron pens coming so hopefully I can draw some on.
  10. Thank you. That's just fine sand and a few small rocks, with a base of zandri dust washed with reikland fleshshade and then drybrushed with screaming skull and the rim finished off with gorthor brown.
  11. I thought that they would be a new primaris chapter, descended from the Imperial fists, as I didn't think a single, not very mentioned templar crusade would be in a place to be directly receiving reinforcements , so would be an allied force. I'm thinking now that I might just paint over the yellow and unify it into one force.
  12. Sorry about the late reply. I haven't had any time to this week after the heatwave where it was too hot to have the computer on. So I tried both of the methods metioned on some spare powerfists but they didn't seem to hit well with me. I'll keep trying on test models to try and get the dilutions of mediums to ink and glazes better. Anyway with the release of dark imperium and the new white dwarf, there's Maxime's black templars in a tale of four warlords and his guide to how he paints them and I had a go. I didn't have all the paints used so I made a few swaps and I skipped a few steps that I thought weren't going to be very visible. I'm not sure if yellow as a main colour is legal in this sub forum. Based on the mkII veteran (at least I think he was. I don't have the book on hand) in extemination. I thought this didn't turn out too bad and I've got the paints ordered. Anyway I'm starting to feel more comfortable with painting black so hopefully things will come along more often.
  13. So here we are with those 5 crusaders complete. This is still with the satin coat as a main layer which has now in better lighting became more of a sheen which gives a good shiny highlight already. I've added some edge highlighting and a few chips add tried adding some dirt to the feet and lower greaves. Howerever using it as a second coat may not be a good thing anymore. I applied it to the terminators today and it seems to have partially obscured the detail on the helmets and heads so maybe just as a first coat from now on (M@verick115 was right) Black templar transfers will be applied in a batch when more people are ready. Anyway thanks to M@verick115 and Sword Brother Ryan for their inputs.
  14. Thanks for the advice Theonetruezon. They're not that glossy off camera and there's no way I could pull off a good OSL effect yet so that's off the cards. The paint has dried evenly and the crusaders await details before they bring the Emperor's wrath to those who threaten the Imperium!
  15. A bit of pre-amble. This would be my third attempt at making a black templars crusade, with my first being trying to copy the box art of 3rd edition all those years ago with inexperience and the second a bit more than a year ago with the dark grey with multiple black washes method. I didn't really like it apart from taking ages to do so now I've tried something new. Hence the thread title. As back up I've got a metallic and plain black spray too. So as a starting point I've made 5 initiates of a crusader squad from of various kits and bits and have a sword brethren terminator squad made of deathwing knights and black templar shields and pads in construction. And here we are. What are people's opinions? Is it too glossy? Of course this means that highlighting it will be very different and I'm not too sure how that will go. And as for fluff, I haven't got any yet. So a hello to the sub forum.
