You shouldn't worry about word counts.

Just pick a single story beat you want to hit in your lore and write until you feel the story is told.

Everything else is secondary.

Exactly. Write the way you choose. People seem to be enjoying mine, though I've not added to it for a little due to life getting in the way. Have a look at the link in my sig. You'll see I write both longer and shorter pieces. 

I think the best advice I can give is similar to @Lathe Biosas and just write until you hit that point when either your story or chapter has hit the right note.

Write what you want If you have a longer story you cause always not publish it until you done or set it to publish at a later date so you can continue to write and edit. 

I tend to write my stories as a Chapter or mini chapter. It depends on my mood and my time available

I'm quite similar. As do many, I find it hardest to those first words out, so I write small vignettes, as I have been putting on here, then go back and tie them a together.

I'm opposite, i have maelstrom of ideas, characters and events. And awful English -_- I'd got it all together, translated, edited. and get angry cause Lathe Biases think i overwriting
