After undercoating and pre-weathering everything got a good coat of gloss varnish, followed by AK Worn Effects.

Once you put paint on top of the Worn Effects you need to give it about 30-60 minutes for the paint to get tacky.  Then using brushes, water and an old tooth brush you can remove some of the paint - in my case reveal the undercoat in selected area.  If anyone wants to try this you must use the gloss varnish underneath, of you don't you'll burn the undercoat off too.

Start slowly as you can always do multiple passes.

After that I was left with a Fellblade that has definitely seen action.
