Veyr the Cipher

"Tell me your thoughts."

"Show me your dreams."

"I will find the secrets you wish to keep hidden, both the important knowledge you know and the petty lies you tell. All are the same to me, information to be gleaned from you. All shall be given to the Host, to be recorded and analyzed. Your life, your hopes and fear, merely datapoints in a long series of data inputs to be logged. Your entire existence is of little import to the False Imperium, but to us it can be of great utility. The smallest pebble can trip a great lord, so can your knowledge send a planet into ruin."

"Of course, you will not remember this. I feel your mind screaming in my grip but do not worry. All your pain and fear of betraying your oaths will fade away soon. There will be nothing left but the calm bliss of acceptance and order."

"Hydra Dominatus, my new operative."

Veyr the Cipher

Sorcerer

Not all information can be found in duty tomes, stolen reports, or overheard conversations. Sometimes the most important secrets are known only to one. The Whisper Host Sorcerer Veyr the Cipher slips into the minds of his targets to recover their deepest shames, vital memories, and secrets.

Veyr’s origin is obscured beneath layers of contradictory testimony. Some accounts name him as a former Librarian of the Alpha Legion, while others claim that the original Veyr died many centuries ago and that the title has since passed between a succession of sorcerers. Caligos Nyth offers no clarification, as Veyr is their most gifted interrogator. Even Akhelion Rhex’s hidden ledgers contain only the title the Cipher, repeated in scripts separated by thousands of years.

Unlike the shrieking prophets and warp-maddened seers of other Traitor hosts, Veyr practices his art with cold restraint. He does not summon storms of burning warp flame when a whispered hallucination will suffice. The merest mental nudge of can be equally devastating as a crude burst of lightning. He enters dreams, rearranges recollections, and buries commands beneath memories his victims believe to be their own. Under his influence, sentries abandon their posts, officers transmit false orders, and loyal servants awaken convinced that they have always served the Hydra. Veyr accompanies the Phantom Coil during the Whisper Host’s most delicate infiltrations. Concealed behind layers of psychic obfuscation, he clouds augurs and auspexes, befuddles patrols, and conceals the presence of his fellow Legionaries from suspicious minds. Captured intelligence officers are rarely subjected to conventional interrogation from the Host in a full infiltration. Veyr simply removes the required knowledge, leaving behind carefully manufactured memories to explain the missing hours.

The Cipher studies the dreams of Imperial worlds marked for conquest. Through astropathic echoes, stolen relics, and the minds of abducted prophets, he searches for fractures that the Whisper Host might exploit. Veyr speaks of the warp without reverence and treats prophecy as merely another code to be deciphered, altered, or falsified.

Whether Veyr’s visions truly reveal the future is uncertain. The Cipher claims that prophecy is not the discovery of what will happen, but the quiet elimination of every future that does not serve the Veilmaker.
