Cull

Executor

The warrior called Cull possesses no other name.

Whether the word is a title, an order, or merely the last fragment of an identity deliberately erased is unknown. Even the hidden ledgers of Akhelion Rhex contain no record of Cull’s origin. They list only confirmed deployments, recovered trophies, and the names of those judged unfit to survive. Each entry concludes with the same notation:

Culled.

Within the Whisper Host, Cull serves as both executioner and final contingency. He is dispatched when subtlety has failed, when an operative has betrayed the Host, or when a target possesses knowledge too dangerous to remain alive. His victims include Imperial commanders, rival warlords, compromised informants, and even Alpha Legionaries whose capture threatened the Veilmaker’s designs. Rank offers no protection from his judgement.

Cull is not a berserker, nor is he a champion. He does not roar challenges or indulge in theatrical slaughter. He approaches every killing with the emotionless discipline of a craftsman completing a necessary task. His chosen weapon is a broad-headed executioner’s axe fitted with a disruption field, its edge scarred by centuries of use. Many targets are dead before they realize the towering figure before them is not another bodyguard, mercenary, or trusted ally.

Caligos Nyth employs Cull sparingly. The executioner’s presence marks the end of deception and the beginning of erasure. After the Phantom Coil has extracted its intelligence and Veyr the Cipher has stripped away every useful memory, Cull ensures that no witnesses remain to reconstruct the truth. Entire command cadres have been discovered slain behind sealed doors, their security systems undisturbed and their guards still stationed outside.

Among the Whisper Host’s mortal operatives, Cull has become a figure of whispered superstition. Some believe that seeing Cull means an operation has been compromised. Others claim he does not hunt traitors, but those whom the Veilmaker has foreseen will eventually become traitors. None know whether Cull chooses his victims or merely obeys sealed directives prepared long before their crimes are committed.

Cull has always been charged with eliminating individuals whose survival might obstruct future operations. Governors disappear during triumphal processions. Generals are found headless within fortified strategiums. Astropaths fall silent before they can transmit warnings. Each death appears isolated, yet together they form a trail of severed authority leading toward worlds already marked for conquest.

Cull never speaks of loyalty, brotherhood, or purpose. When questioned about his service to the Veilmaker, he offers only a single reply: “Every secret has a final witness.”
