Just speculation/wish listing. so with the fulgrim ascended getting released, War com has confirmed that EC will be getting corrupted rules. I’m guessing a new RoW. But I’m hopeful for new units as well. if they give kakophoni line, that would be quite strong. a sonic dread is something I miss from 40k. It would be nice to see again in game. anyone else got any guesses?

Well-met fraters, The concept for this list is that, after Ferrus' death, some of the IH were taken prisoner by the EC. In their despair, they have been coerced into fighting for the EC, who in turn view them as dispensable cannon fodder. Emperor's Children Main Detachment Lord Commander Eidolon (215) Warlord Librarian (125) Biomancer, Jump pack, Force axe Tartaros Herald (115) Sonic shriekers, Phoenix rapier 2 Contemptors (360) Both w/ Melta cannon & fist 1 Apothecary (70) Jump pack, artificer armour 10 Palatine Aquilae (385) 5x power axes, 3x phoenix spears, 2x charnabal sabres 10 Assault Marines (145) 10 Tactical Marines (100) 5 Recon Marines (145) 5x Nemesis bolters, Augury scanner 5 Recon Marines (145) 5x Nemesis bolters, Augury scanner 8 Sunkillers (325) Augury scanner 10 Kakophoni (275) Iron Hands Allied Detachment Moritat (160) 2x Grav pistols, Lightning claw, Jump pack 1 Apothecary (45) 5 Gorgon Terminators (200) 18 Tactical Marines (190) Vexilla 3000pts - Backline held by EC: Sunkillers, Kakophoni, Recons, Tacs - Midboard objectives to be seized by IH Tac blob & Gorgons + EC Herald, supported by EC Contemptors. Tough to shift, lots of FNP - Glorious charge by Eidolon with Palatine Aquilae. They'll also take the Biomancer & IH Moritat so their Power axes & phoenix spears will instant death T4, and themselves being T5 with a FNP should mitigate some of the return attacks

This would follow the same pattern as DG's 40k Deathshroud being in a different terminator armour type than their HH version to make people avoid using them in both games. EC Phoenix terminators use Tartaros. Althought there are a few images of EC Cataphractii in Visions of Heresy: -

Noise Marines and Kakophoni are the same thing, but not all EC are Noise Marines. The Fabius Bile trilogy covers this pretty well. NM are a separate cult within the EC who are devoted to the “Song of Slaanesh” and attempt to recreate this “song” through their sonic weapons, and sonic implants. The first Noise Marines were the Kakophoni, created when a corrupted rememberancer that visited the Laer temple played part of the Song of Slaanesh during an orchestral performance for the EC legion. The Astartes that heard it were enraptured and started trying to recreate it using sonic weapons, and the cult of the Song of Slaanesh spread from there, with its followers being Noise Marines. -

Imagine if EC retain the ability to just bring normal Legionnaires as Battleline? I think the Noise Marine unit will have the option to be built as an Assault marine style "normal" unit in addition to the expected crazy sonic stuff, possibly these would be 2 different datasheets even. As for why they're still "Noise Marines", consider the faction from an outside perspective. Who outside of the EC would know that the EC don't spam Noise Marines? You're going up against the EC, so Noise Marines is what you expect and thus thats what you'd call the normal battle line. The TSons Battle Line are technically just the Aspiring Sorc, but since he controls a blob of Rubricae and Rubrics are what you expect you call them Rubric Marines. -

Worth pointing out that Thousand Sons Scarabs also are different mark of Terminator to their heresy models. This makes lots of sense to me for the EC release. -

Might be missing your point, but that's the misconception, many of the EC are noise marines, but not all of them, and similarly, not all noise marines are Emperor's Children. There are still plenty of non-NM EC's about. Even then in previous editions, NM's could take melee weapons and were great in melee as they had I5 and fought before marines. I guess the fumble would be if they flanderised EC's to make them be only noise marines, and all new units just be screaming noisers, as that's the low hanging fruit? I'm imagine something more like the HH Inductii, flamboyant with sabres and duelling etc, but I think whatever we do see will have 'upgrades' like shriekers. -

As excided as I am for a full EC codex, I do have to pump the brakes on some excitement here. The WE got their index in May '22, with the 9e CSM codex release. The announcement of the index said that the WE codex was "a little ways off" but came with some weapon previews of new chainaxes. They then got their actual codex release in Feb '23, 9 months later. What Are EC getting? No previews, just a blurb saying the codex is too distant to detect. So I'm not expecting anything for a year+. If anything, we're earmarked for the end of edition releases like WE were, which means they might actually be 2+ years out. -

So, my initial speculation was that EC would be the last release of 11th, and that it would feature in the narrative transition between editions, much like we've seen with primarchs in the past. This announcement tells us not only that a dex is coming, but also that it's a ways out; if we were going to get EC sooner rather than later, they probably wouldn't need a holdover. And given that we're coming up to a year on the new edition, 11th is two years away. I figure we're at least waiting one, but more likely the end of the ed. Finally, I am curious to see how Aeldari meta-plot and fluff evolve to pave the way for the arrival EC. As far as I know, there's still a Cronesword in Slaanesh's palace, and if having the whole collection was such a big deal to the Ynarri, imagine what Slaanesh would do with the other 4? It might be worth mobilizing your Cult and sending your favourite son to lead them. -

Chances are the upgrade sprues will only be for the non-cult legions, seeing as EC are about to become a standalone faction with a completely distinct model line. -

Agree. But I do fear that the range design philosophy (or lack thereof) might screw over the Third Legion on release. People mentioned it before: EC is noise marines. EC is also flamboyant duelist melee. But Noise marines aren't melee, There is a lot of potential for a fumble in faction design. At least the index guarantees that they are getting a release. And I believe the release will be sooner rather than later, since WE got the exact treatment. Index in WD, then full codex. Me too fam. Me too -

The rumour seems reliable. As far as the new HQ and no Eidolon bit, I am kind if expecting either a generic HQ or some new character conjured from the aether because some sculptor felt like it (Lord Invocatus), or a dual kit. Would have preferred Eidolon but c'est la vie. Real question is what the fate of the EC and WE will be, future big waves or the kinda sad half-birth that has been the TSs lot for 3 editions now. I will still hope for fallen Palatines, Sunkillers, Noise Marines on Motorcycles or an EC take on the Mad Max guitar lunatic on a vehicle thingie. -

It’s a torture device. Fulgrim is ritually tortured by his legion. I have to say the story of the EC is my least favourite arc of all. -

I am delighted to have an EC codex coming in the foreseeable future for sure. I am a little worried about which units are going to be left out. I guess allies are a thing. I would hate to see spawns, oblits and havocs go. Also very interested in the cultists they might recive while owning approximately 80 dark vangeance cultists. -

That's what I found odd. The person in question claimed to play a lot of EC, and claimed that Hereticus was underrated if you knew how to play "core" EC. He argued that the psych thing was really that big because it allowed units to "move where you want them to and stay there". I can't imagine morale/objective squatting being this significant, but this guy clearly plays enough. -

I might ask the admins if we can have a groan emoji. on the wider point, I hate to come across all “Rogue-Tradier-than-thou”, but the original Realm of Chaos Emperor’s Children army list pre-dated Noise Marines. The defining EC trait was not particularly duellists, but their mockery of the Imperium by retaining their name. So I would really like it if they created a completely new unit, and we can have our cake and eat it over whether “most” EC are noise marines. Perhaps that could be the eventual fate of those who survive long enough - a blessing or a curse.
