The Bolter and Chainsword presents: With the recent release of Kill-Team: Into the Dark, the Mods in the Kill-Team Subforum thought it might be fun to have a bit of a painting Challenge! Have you ever had a cool idea for a 40k force, but couldn't face the thought of building and painting a whole army? Or maybe it was the cost, or maybe it was the time commitment, or maybe it was simply the influence of the dreaded 'hobby butterfly'... Or maybe you're totally cool with painting 15k of points in one colour scheme, and have in fact done so several times over… but you fancy painting one squad in a completely different colour, just for a change? Then maybe Kill-Team might be the system for you! If you want to take part in this Challenge, the rules are very simple: Build and paint one Kill-Team of whichever Faction you like by the deadline date below! This can be any of the available teams, from those included in any of the boxed games, or the Compendium, Annual, WD or Warcom. At a minimum it must include a fully playable team - but if you wish to go further and paint up a full Roster of 20 minis, go for it! Kitbashing, conversions and counts-as are all welcome, but the finished product must still be recognisably '40k' and playable as one of the various Factions. So if you want to do true-scale Terminators using the Custodes rules? - cool! Penal Legion Vet Guardsmen a la the Dirty Dozen or Last Chancers? - nice! Space Skaven scavengers using the Kroot Farstalkers (or Genestealer Cult list)? - no problem! Of course, the current KT campaign is set aboard the Gallowdark. So while you aren't obliged to build or base your minis with a Space Hulk theme, if you wish to do so, that would be awesome! Along with the painted models, we want you to write up some background! It could be as simple as just giving all your operatives names, or it could include information about their personalities or previous missions/victories! You could even go mad and include the history of your DIY Chapter/Regiment/Craftworld/Dynasty/whatever, or write a whole short story about your guys' exploits! If you have already recently started on a team, that's fine, as long as it's not too close to being complete you are welcome to join in! (This is all just for fun, after all!) Also, multiple entries are allowed but you must complete your first entry before vowing for a second. Completion Date: 31/01/23 - that's the best part of 3 months, so should be plenty of time to complete a single squad! Vows: I, (your name), vow to complete one Kill-Team of the (your chosen Faction), to be fully painted and based by the 31st January 2023, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May (the Emperor or whatever 40k deity you wish to swear by) curse me to darkness and ruination should I fail! Vows (along with any starting pics or links to your WIP threads) should be posted in the Challenge sign-up thread down in the KT subforum: https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376138-knives-in-the-dark-painting-challenge-2022/ The winner (possibly Gold, Silver and Bronze, if there are sufficient participant numbers) will be decided by means of a public vote. There aren't any prizes, but there will be badges for winning or taking part! The Factions will also be broken up into 4 'Grand Alliances': Loyal Astartes (Astartes, Intercession, Phobos, Deathwatch, Grey Knights) Imperials (Guard, Admech, Talons of the Emperor, Ecclesiarchy) Chaos (Traitor Astartes, Thousand Sons, Death Guard and Daemons) Xenos (Orks, Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids, Tau, Kroot) The Alliance with the most completed Kill Teams on the 31/01/23 will get extra bragging rights! We hope you can join us for the Challenge!

To observe the triumphant crossing of the Rubicon Primaris by the Bolter & Chainsword website, each member is encouraged to assemble and paint one or more models representative of being upgraded. The most desired submissions are Adeptus Astartes of the Legio Bolter & Chainsword, the site mascot. If you don't know about the Legio, you can read about it at: (Offline) + The Legio Bolter and Chainsword + - The Bolter and Chainsword For the sake of nostalgia, here is an image of the Legio model I submitted for the first Legio Mini Me contest, in the original color scheme, back in 2002: I'd like to think that my painting skills have improved since then. Unfortunately, my eyesight has deteriorated (getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative). And here's the current Legio color scheme: That's a battle-brother seconded from the Griffon Lords Chapter (per the blue right shoulder pad). He bears a standard badge of the Legio on his left pauldron. The red helmet is standard for battle-brothers of the Legio. The red right kneepad means that the battle-brother is in the Blood of the Emperor Great Company. You can alternately choose the Light of the Emperor Great Company (white) or the Justice of the Emperor Great Company (black). While we're primarily looking for loyalist Adeptus Astartes, we want everyone to be able to participate. To that end, there will be four categories: Loyalist Adeptus Astartes (can represent a battle-brother before he joins the Legio, or Legiones Astartes of the Horus Heresy) Allies of the Legio - any Imperium model Heretic Astartes (the Red Corsairs are the natural antithesis of the Legio, but you don't have to use them) Xenos and Daemons The loyalist Adeptus Astartes will ideally represent a battle-brother of the Legio in proper Legio colors, but could also represent a battle-brother before he is seconded to the Legio (i.e., in your Chapter colors). And for those of you that are stuck in the Horus Heresy right now, you can submit a member of the Legiones Astartes from that era (the Shattered Legions and Knights Errant are suitable substitutes, but you can use any loyalist). The allies of the Legio should represent any model of the Imperium that has had the privilege of fighting alongside the Legio. The Heretic Astartes and Xenos and Daemons options should represent enemies of the Imperium, preferably including something to show that they have been fighting against the Legio. Regardless of what you choose, the model should be representative of change and improvement. We're not going to quibble over what that entails, so let your imagination guide you. Perhaps your Legio battle-brother has recently replaced some weak flesh with a strong augmetic limb. Perhaps your Astra Militarum soldier has just been promoted to sergeant. Perhaps your asuryani aspect warrior has just become an exarch. Perhaps your Heretic Astartes traitor has recently been blessed by his foul patron and now sports a nifty mutation. We're trying to keep this at the individual "infantry" model, but jump packs, bikes, and similar are okay. Terminator armor and centurion suits are okay, too. No vehicles, please. That includes dreadnoughts, wraithlords, etc. We want the cost of entry to be relatively low. If you have an idea and are unsure, ask here. Each member may enter a single model for each of the categories above. The winner in each category will receive a Games Workshop virtual voucher for $50 USD. Each member can only win in one category, however. To submit your entry (entries), submit your image(s) to the B&C Reforged gallery album. Only one image per mini is required, but feel free to upload as many as you want. Everyone that submits a finished model will be awarded a badge. The winner in each category will be awarded an additional special badge. Anyone that submits a loyalist Space Marine in Legio colors will also be awarded a Legio Mini Me badge. Deadline to submit pictures is midnight, 31 July 2022.

Wasteland Vehicle Workshop With the release of Ash Wastes, everybody's (hopefully) chomping at the bit to build all sorts of crazy post-apocalyptic vehicles (or even just some bog-standard, perfectly ordinary post-apocalyptic vehicles...) and go raring off across the blasted hellscapes of Necromunda. Inspired by Slave to Darkness' great idea with the Sumpheap Scrap event, I thought it would be cool to do a similar event, so we can all motivate and inspire each other to create the coolest vehicles possible. That being said, it's all about getting some hobbying done, so if you're more comfortable doing one of the standard vehicles from the Ash Wastes/Book of the Outlands that's cool too. So, I hear you cry, what are we supposed to do? What are the rules? Well, they're quite straightforward: You pledge to build and paint a vehicle from the 1st of August to the 30th of October. Scratchbuilding and converting is highly encouraged, but not strictly necessary. If you complete your pledge you are awarded the title of "Road Warrior" and nigh-infitine bragging rights. You may pledge again, once your first pledge is done, and upon completion of a second pledge you will be awarded the title "Furious Roadster" as well as infinite bragging rights. Should two or more Frater wish to join forces and create a larger project together, they may do so, in which case they will be awarded the joint title "Mad Mechs" as well as a place in the legends of the wastelands, not to mention our hearts – after all the real shambling metal juggernaut was the friends we made along the way. How you manage your projects, cooperative or otherwise, is up to you but I hope you will all involve the forum in your work process, as it will be inspiring and fun for all concerned. So, while there is no strict requirement, do show us your wip pics and thoughts :) While the official starting date is August 1st, you're of course free to gather up your materials and start posting about your mad ideas before the event kicks off – in fact, the more we can inspire each other during the lead-up, the better! I'm still in the process of getting banners and badges done (I've never done this kind of thing before, so I'm leaning on Grotsmasha for help). They will show up eventually though, so please be patient with me :)

Ladies and Gentleman, Scummers of all ages, I would like to present the first B&C Sumpheap Scrap event. The task is simple, build and paint one (or more, if your up for it) piece of Necromunda scenery between March 1st and April 1st using any old bits of junk you have around the house. When the events ended all entries will be put up for public humiliation in a poll so one of us can take home the title of 'Best Shed Builder' and the rest of us can cry. That leaves you just under 2 weeks to source as much kitty litter and pringles tubes before we officially start. Rules are simple, no GW scenery, this is a challenge, a Sumpheap Scrap challenge!! Anything else from plastic I girders to fully working PC fans is fair game though. If anyone rises to the challenge, prepare your washing up liquid bottles and double sided sticky tape and get ready, oh and banners will be available nearer to the time. Signature banners: 300x100px 33x100px
