The HH Fafnir Model altered for the Executioners Chapter. -
An ongoing project to knock up some kitbashed standalone minis from the chapters engaged in the Badab War, because Badab is cool and kitbashing is probably the part of the hobby I enjoy the most. I had intended to start out easy with just my idea of what a standard tactical marine from each chapter might look like and I did do a few of those already (pics to follow) but a particular combination of parts gave me an idea and so I went with it. Here's my rendition of Old Night himself, Thulsa Kane of the Executioners. The basis is Tortuga Bay Studio's Myroslav Kado mini, with arms and axe from their Fortress Destroyer model. The head is from the new GW Terminator Chaplain, tilt shield from Fafnir Rann. There's also a dagger in a skull-encrusted scabbard from one of the GW limited edition webstore minis because "needs more skulls" was a definite consideration i had while assembling him!

From the album: Executioners Chapter
Fafnir HH Model -
So I'm thinking of painting these guys up as the Executioners Chapter. Yes I know they are officially an Imperial Fist successor but I just love the Iron Hands strategems, traits and general vibe. I thought combining that with the more melee focussed Successor options would be kind of cool. I'm a sucker for small elite forces and Primaris models. I'm just wondering what everyone here thinks. Any advice welcome on wether it's remotely playable or feasible as a working list. ++ Patrol Detachment 0CP (Imperium - Adeptus Astartes - Iron Hands) [56 PL, 5CP, 1,000pts] ++ **Chapter Selector**: Custom Chapter, Hungry for Battle, Iron Hands Successor, Whirlwind of Rage Battle Size [6CP]: + HQ + Primaris Chaplain on Bike [7 PL, -1CP, 125pts]: 4. Mantra of Strength, All Flesh is Weakness, Benediction of Fury, Litany of Hate, Stratagem: Paragon of Iron, The Imperium's Sword, Warlord + Troops + Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 100pts]: Auto Bolt Rifle . 4x Intercessor: 4x Bolt pistol, 4x Frag & Krak grenades . Intercessor Sergeant Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 100pts]: Auto Bolt Rifle . 4x Intercessor: 4x Bolt pistol, 4x Frag & Krak grenades . Intercessor Sergeant + Elites + Bladeguard Veteran Squad [10 PL, 175pts] . 4x Bladeguard Veteran: 4x Frag & Krak grenades, 4x Heavy Bolt Pistol, 4x Master-crafted power sword, 4x Storm Shield . Bladeguard Veteran Sergeant: Heavy Bolt Pistol Terminator Assault Squad [9 PL, 195pts] . Assault Terminator Sergeant . . Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield: . 2x Assault Terminator w/THSS: 2x Storm shield, 2x Thunder hammer . 2x Assault Terminator w/x2LC: 2x Lightning Claw (Pair) + Heavy Support + Eradicator Squad [14 PL, 180pts]: Melta rifle . 3x Eradicator: 3x Bolt pistol . Eradicator Sgt + Dedicated Transport + Impulsor [6 PL, 125pts]: 2x Storm Bolters, Shield Dome ++ Total: [56 PL, 5CP, 1,000pts] + General Ideas - Super rough and tough Chaplain to represent the amazing Thulsa Kane himself. Just drive around throwing hands and maybe buff the Bladeguard while driving by. Intercessors for objective holding and looking nice at the back. Bladeguard in an Impulsor and Assault termies to hit stuff hard when they show up/get there. Eradicators for a little bit of anti-tank.

Well, been some time since I posted anything in here. Life has been super busy and honestly, I kind of fell out of 40k for a little while due to some distractions. Anyway, enough about life. You clicked this for Thulsa Kane, so going right to it. Needed to have the following items as mentioned in his profile: The Ænigmata Ferrum - This sacred tome contains the accumulated battle-wisdom and ancient secrets of the Executioners Chapter culled from many thousands of Terran years of chronicles. A copy of the Aenigmata Ferrum is carried into battle and further added to by every high mortiurge of the Chapter. Grehdalin's Bones - A relic of the Chapter, this Artificer Armour was created from the nigh-indestructible skeletal remains of an ancient xenos beast that once slaughtered an entire colony world's population one-by-one. Slain by one of the greatest of the Chapter's high chaplains in an epic struggle, the armour is said to both shield the flesh of the Chaplain who wears it, as well as remind them constantly of the high standards they are expected to set for the rest of the Chapter. Lifetaker - The Lifetaker is a massive black-bladed Power Axe of archaic design, carried by successive Chapter Masters of the Executioners and given to Thulsa Kane to signify his leadership of the Executioners during the dark days of the Badab War. Plasma Pistol Rosarius So first off. Cobble together pieces. Obviously used the MoE model thanks to its integration of bones, works great for Grehdalin's Bones! The Axe, to rep Lifetaker, was also a huge selling point for me to use. I shaved off any chaos-like symbols I could find and also made the axe a little smaller by shaving down from the top. Right forearm and plasma pistol is from Mk IV armor/weapons upgrades. Added an oath paper on the front and on his backpack. The pack is from Dorn, shaved down any intricate details to make it less "Primarchy". Left shoulder pauldron is from an unknown, I just had it in my bits box. Added a pistol holster as well. Next, some Green Stuff fun. I am not the best with it, but I decided to try some new things. I added a profile skull image to each side of the Axe. Added some chains to hang from the waist and for a Rosarius to hang from. The book is a custom book from previous bits and represents the Aenigmata Ferrum. I had to cut it in half and properly align them and add pages to it in between. The helmet, a Night Lord's Terror Squad Mk IV helmet was used. I added all the studs on it myself as well, with rivets from my bit box. I also shaved any of the stitched leather/skin robes threads and green-stuffed folds of the robe a bit to make it less "Chaos." Also added a small shielf on the breastplate I could paint the Executioners' Chapter symbol on. Primed version to show pieces all together for completeness Showing a close-up of the head and also I only painted one lens as the other one would be superfluous since his encounter with Necrons during The Battle of Carrion Deep. And the finished products and a final pic with another Chaplain I painted back in 2015 to show the scheme matching! Next WIP are some Star Phantoms: Left to Right - Heavy Bolter, Combi-Plasma(seconded to the Deathwatch at a time), Plasma Gun, P-Sword/Combi-Melta, Bolter Chainsword, and a Recon Marine w/Missile Launcer (Scout) C&C always welcome!

- Executioners: End of Penance - http://i.imgur.com/QX0cZZ9.jpg So 8th edition is the first time I've honestly been excited for an edition of 40k. To mark the occasion I wanted to start up a new army for 8th, and though it took a while of pondering what to do, I ended up on Executioners, the unsung badasses of the Badab war. Pretty sure that fluff-wise the Executioners are almost done their 100 year penitent crusade (hence the title) too lazy to fact check. I have about 3k of Executioners slowly being built and prepared for the new age. First squad I got done were these Terminators: http://i.imgur.com/hBADdtj.jpg First Terminator fully complete http://i.imgur.com/83XEqs9.jpg The Squad beginning to take shape http://i.imgur.com/Y1nBZbq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pFAG7ax.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9929qYY.jpg I was influenced to add hazard stripes both from old-school Ultramarines Terminators (the termie power fists) but also of course from Iron Warriors. When I started painting up silver marines I pondered ways to make them pop and add depth, Iron Warriors were the only other silver marines to use as influence. My hazard stripes are there to a much lesser degree and I'll be looking at other ways to give personality to these guys down the road. After all we're proud Sons of Dorn! Just recently I finished part of my Assault Squad, 5 done 5 to go. http://i.imgur.com/pUe2ju2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uOT49GU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9sRy9MO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SMZz2tH.jpg Executioners Colors/Organization So there are a couple ways Executioners mark their marines. Generally everyone is silver/metallic, with bronze power pack and face-plate. Occasionally a marine will have a bronze shoulder insert (perhaps a mark of honour?). Terminators have yellow shoulder pads and black helmets. Sergeants are shown to have a yellow shoulder insert on the right shoulder pads (I'll be doing both pads for my Sergeants/Veterans because I like symmetry), as well as yellow paint over their upper helms. It's not explained in depth so I'm adding yellow helmets/pads for all sergeants and veterans (Sternguard/etc). This info is based on the artwork of the Executioners during the Badab War. Here are the pics I'm referring to: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Executioners#Gallery Metallic Blue vs. Metallic Silver So one thing people constantly ask is "aren't they metallic blue?" and to be honest I'm not even sure. The earliest uploaded pics showed Executioners as a metallic blue, but the more recent scans I found show them as classic silver, as does their short story Death Speakers. The silver is more Spartan, fits their personality more, so that's what I was happy to go with (also looks more brutal imo). http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/7/7b/Executioners6.jpg this is the famous metallic blue... Yet these are from another scan and the short story Death Speakers by Andy Smillie... http://i.imgur.com/2y2gXhg.jpg http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/DefaultBL/xlarge/Death-Speakers.jpg P.S - I'd highly recommend reading Death Speakers (the only Executioner story currently) Andy Smillie please write more Executioner stuff! First, some tunes to get you in the mood: Up until recently I had been working on some silver marines, had about 1000pts complete, and all was fine and good. Never played a game with them, then 9th edition was announced. As many hobbyists will do it was decided that a new army would be started, especially after the tease of those awesome new models for Primaris armies. So I sold said army, and bought new stuff. (My girlfriend was a bit confused. "But you just sold Space Marines?) I love close combat themed forces, and I love the Executioners, being the son of Dorn and fan of Conan the Barbarian that I am. But I wont be painting the Executioners, no, I am going to be painting one of their successors, the Crimson Axes. "But Toyship," I hear you say, "They are listed as destroyed in Imperial records." Well, they were. The idea I am running with is this is one of the Ultima Founding chapters that were created to replace an extinct chapter. Working on some fluff ideas in the background...thought it might be cool if they were gifted the original chapter's Fortress Monastery and had to cleanse it of Orks or something. Anyway, you came here for pics so here ya go: Pushed myself on this guy, particularly happy with the damaged leather. The face, not so much. Can't find my drill bit for the barrel, a new one has been ordered. Waiting on some waterslide paper to print of some squad markings and chapter icon. I am waffling between a couple of axe designs, anyone wanna help me out? #1: Executioners Axes minus the red shield, axes in red #2: Dark Hunters Axe, also in red: #3: Crimson Guard Axes, in red: Really excited to get more done on these guys, bought the Space Wolves Start Collectinng, gonna offload the upgrades for more stuff. Current plans are to have 3x Intercessor squads armed with Auto Bolt Rifles, not sure what the Sergeants will be armed with yet...most likely chainaxes counting as chainswords. I also have the Aggressors from the Start Collecting box, Haldor Icepelt, (who will be cleaned up and turned into a Captain or Lieutenant), the Lieutenant from Wake the Dead, an Impulsor (for the eventual Hellblasters), and the Ancient from Dark Imperium. Hopefully by the time I have all of that painted the new stuff will be out, as I have a mighty need for the Assault Intercessors and those gorgeous bikes. Thats enough talk for now, thanks in advance for any comments/criticisms!

I'm thinking of building a kill team or maybe a small army of my favourite Badab War Chapter, the Executioners. I've painted this test model, and am looking for some feedback on the colour scheme: I'm aiming for a dark metallic steel with a very slight blue-ish hue (don't want it too blue, as I also have a Crimson Fists project ongoing as well). Is it still identifiable as an Executioner? Thanks in advance!
