  1. So as part of the current Call to Arms I decided to make a sizable dent in my back log and paint up as many Tyranids as I could as well as learn to use the army for this edition. I honestly have not touched this army since early 8th iirc. For the edition I was planning on doing either Assimilation or Endless Swarm. With the change to reinforcements however I’m definitely going Assimilation, maybe Invasion for certain builds. Below is a sample list that I’m going to try running. If you see any room for improvement I’m open for suggestions. Once I get another pyrovore I’m most likely going to drop the ripper swarm and Regeneration enhancement to fit it in. For large games I’m looking at adding more big boys to the list. Point of the Parasite is to make ripper swarms to harvest other objectives. Basically have it follow a group and tail attack a soft target to make swarms. The other unit will hold the objective and allow the swarms to heal those units. If my opponent decides to target the rippers they are not attacking my other units. Only issue is if the parasite goes down, but once again, not attacking my other heavier units. Also plan to swap out the carnifex for a haruspex once I get one. I’ll add in any battle reports and fluff to this later, I did get in one game so far against my sister’s Kroot army and managed a close win. It broke down to my neurolictor managing to stop a sabotage action by killing the last 3 models of the unit. Had she scored that it would have been a tie.

  3. First came trails of light, streaking blindingly through darkened skies and illuminating the upturned faces of the populace below. These clear signs of the Emperor's favour were a cause of much rejoicing. Next came the bounty of the earth; an explosion of verdant growth, delivering unprecedented plenty to the inhabitants of the planet. The Emperor's generosity was celebrated by the populace in great ceremonies of thanksgiving. Finally came the upheaval, and with it the sky devils, visiting untold terror upon the people of the world. The Emperor’s angels responded to their desperate prayers, but only after irreparable damage had been done. Hive Fleet Erythrus is my new Tyranid army, built primarily on the foundation of the bug half of the Leviathan box set. I do have some ‘nids from back in third ed that were in a mainly black and red scheme that might get a re-do, but let’s see how these guys go first. I’ve pledged the first chunk of these to the Xenos cause in the Call to Arms, with the hope I can get those done at least and hopefully beyond that the balance of the Combat Patrol. Erythrism “refers to an unusual reddish pigmentation of an animal's hair, skin, feathers, or eggshells.” Erythrus is also a genus of beetles characterised by bright reddish colouration. Hive Fleet Erythrus combines the vivid pink of mutant insects like katydids or grasshoppers with the glittering iridescent shells of jewel scarabs. The colour scheme is very much monochromatic in the pink-purple range but hopefully maintains a decent level of visual interest. Plus, you don’t often see fluorescent pink minis! The fluff concept behind the army is that a small Tyranid tendril has made planetfall on an Imperial backwater. The ‘nids kick-started the planetary environment into overdrive, which initially seems like a good thing but soon tips the other way and carnage ensues, but not before a distress signal is sent off-world and Imperial forces are mustered in response. These are the first ten Termagants which will, with any luck, be followed by more in due course.

  5. ++Haruspex++ We have a new unit of the week! This week it's the gribbly Haruspex, one of the newer, but Iconic Tyranid Heavy Support choices, and one of the better shooting options in the army. What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a unit of them? To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)? What size unit? Will you be running multiple units? What Hive Fleet Traits, Adaptations and Stratagems do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices? Are you buffing this unit? If so, how? Over to you.
  6. ++Swarm Lord++ We have a new unit of the week! This week it's onto the indomitable big beastie of the codex, the Swarm Lord. Released in ~2010 with the 5th ed codex, the Swarmlord adds an extra deimension to Hive Tyrants. What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use the Alpha Tyrant? To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)? What size unit? Will you be running multiple units? What Hive Fleet Traits, Adaptations and Stratagems do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices? Are you buffing this unit? If so, how? Over to you.
