StratoKhan
I really like the speeders. The design looks very good, and it's very simple. Personally the only thing I'd have changed would have been the missiles, which I would have replaced with a rocket pod each, in the same location. But that's just personal preference. Nice bases too. So there's PA in the works now, huh? Looking forward to seeing it. StratoKhan
Well, they're Tornados, so it must be a 'counts as' assault cannon, because that's an autocannon. Honda
Personally the only thing I'd have changed would have been the missiles, which I would have replaced with a rocket pod each, in the same location. But that's just personal preference. Oh I agree with you on rocket pods, but what it came down to is what I had on hand at the time of construction and I didn't have 6 of enough things that looked like they went with the basic airframe so I settled on the Russian 300mm rockets. I would have like to have had each LST carry four of them, but alas, all I had were six. Also the timeline to get these done and ready for the tourney was pretty tight and as the design took a little longer to come together than I planned, some of the detailing time got squeezed (i.e. being able to get the exact things I wanted). Anyway, the way they look still ensures that they attract a large amount of fire. Thanx for the C&C everyone, it is greatly appreciated. Honda
Ok, it's been a little while. I finished my commitment to the DIY Swap project, so it's time to kick off the next phase, a tactical drop pod army aptly named Death Rain. The way I will be approaching this project is to basically put together 70 tactical space marines...might be a few more or so, but that is the goal. Once again to put this on the table in my lifetime, I will be building them in lots. Lot 1: This will make up approximately 50% of the army. The intent here is to use fairly stock poses with limited conversion to get the bulk of the army ready to base. I will do some things to spice them up a little, but for the most part I will use the flexibility of the basic model to provide the energy in the figure. These guys will be the basic tactical trooper and some special weapons guys and the goal is to get the first 35 built so that the army has some bulk. Lot 2: This will be about 50% of the remaining figures. These guys will start seeing more conversion The Vet sgts will start appearing here, primarily armed with BP/PF's, though not all of the powerfists will be powerfists. Other interesting poses will also be featured. Lot 3: This group will take up the rest and feature fairly extensive conversions or odd variations on a theme (e.g. a returned Death Watch veteran with a sniper rifle). I will also put my command figure(s) retinue in here as I had an idea this morning that I think will provide an interesting look. What I am thinking is that the Apocalypse Lords are a very pragmatic group. So I don't do back banners or anything that looks like it might impair battle efficiency. But this would be an interesting way to add something fluffy and characterful. So I'd like to have either 2 or 4 troopers carrying the big company banners with either a chaplain or librarian. So the thought behind that is much like what we see in codex artwork, as well as the idea behind holy relics, everyone knows where the big kahuna is in a battle. It gives the basic troopers comfort knowing they are there and the enemy may feel dread knowing that the nastiest guy in the army is heading their way. So, we'll see, but I think that will give me a good reason to put together some interesting banners. Ok, on to the pictures: The obligatory "work space" shot http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30030.jpg Lot 1 troopers http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30033.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30034.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30035.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30036.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30037.jpg An interesting pose...not sure it is practical, but I kind of like how he turned out http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30038.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30039.jpg ...and this is what happens when you mismatch your arms (well, not "your" arms, the toy soldier's arms). Still we get creative when we have to. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30040.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30041.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30042.jpg ...and the rest of Death Rain, waiting for their turn http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30031.jpg Invariably, someone will say something along the lines of "...now get some paint on them." Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen until I put everybody together and get them on their bases. It's just how I like to do things. Also, with the heat and humidity levels reaching true "summer" levels recently, I don't want to take a chance of the base coat getting all fuzzy on me, so it might be a few weeks before I attempt that. We'll just have to see. Anyway, that's where we stand now, I expect another interesting ride. :teehee: Cheers, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/9/#findComment-1329239 Share on other sites

Hasoroth
You sir, have just perfectly reproduced the "firing over cover with my gun in a useless and futile expenditure of ammunition" pose so prominent in Gears of War with your "interesting posed" marine. Honda
Note to self: Preparing to list your house and painting an army are not mutally supportable activities  So, just a quick update to show that progress has been made on Lot 1. All torsos and legs are done and now it's just a matter of putting arms/heads/guns/shoulder pads on them. This week will be a bit interesting as "Cousin" Dean (i.e. Hurricane) is popping into the Gulf for a visit and we may need to pack up the Thunderhawk and extricate ourselves to points elsewhere. Until then, I will continue to put the "guys" together and get them ready to prime. I'm feeling a lot of pressure from my Elysians... <_< So eight up, the remainder to go. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30026.jpg You sir, have just perfectly reproduced the "firing over cover with my gun in a useless and futile expenditure of ammunition" pose so prominent in Gears of War with your "interesting posed" marine. Well I tend to play against a lot of Eldar and what you may not be taking into account is that he's inserting the bolter into the Avatar's belly button and getting ready to pull the trigger. :turned: Cheers, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/9/#findComment-1336245 Share on other sites

GAR
Well done Honda. Action poses are always welcome. I would just like to point out that spilling paint on the new carpet are also not condusive to getting armies done, or anything else for that matter, so be careful. I am really stoked to see some paint on these guys or some more nifty conversions on the PA marines. Keep it up. Honda
Ok, trying to update this before the coming thunderstorm... So, six more guys cleaned up and ready to prime, for the most part. That puts me at 50% done with Lot 1. Again, these are primarily stock poses to bulk out the list except for one...which should be pretty obvious once you've scrolled down far enough. A vet sgt http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30028.jpg Some basic troopers http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30029.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30031.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30032.jpg Now a special weapons trooper with a flamer. I'm thinking that I'll run the list with three flamers and three other special weapons early on, then take "Cleanse and Purify" and put a melta and a flamer in the same squad. That'll still give me punch when I need it for armor, but the flamer will increase the number of hits when the squad first lands. If that doesn't work out, no biggee, because I'll have the flamers for CoD games. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30030.jpg And now, something I have been wanting to do ever since I saw the pose. I can't take credit for the idea, but I just had to have one of these in my army so that I could chronicle his exploits...or explosions. Anyway, I present to you, veteran plasma gun specialist, Trooper Petros...and in case you are wondering, "yes" I need to putty his armpit. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30035.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30033.jpg So the beat goes on and I look forward to finishing the construction of Lot 1. Be26
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30035.jpg ...that is awesome. It'd look better if the plasma gun was a bit beaten up and he's protecting his face because the gun is liable to explode in his face, but DAMN that kicks ass. As does the "firing over cover" one. Now I'm tempted to just go through Gears of War and pick out cool poses, like one of them with his back against cover, turned around and just looking over the wall, or on one knee and firing away. One question - what are you going to use for the guy's armpit? To get the right effect on the kneeling guy, I figure I'd need some of something. BOBMAKENZIE
An interesting pose...not sure it is practical, but I kind of like how he turned outhttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/OmegawingRun30038.jpg I love this guy. Not only does he remind me of the Gears of war, fire over cover (like others have mentioned) but also of the roughnecks in Roughnecks: STC(which is an awesome show btw. I cant believe they ran out of money on the last 4 episodes!).... Good work! I might have to steal this for a squad. Invariably, someone will say something along the lines of "...now get some paint on them." ...now get some paint on them. Just kidding. Take your time Im much more interested in your poses right now anyway. Honda
One question - what are you going to use for the guy's armpit? To get the right effect on the kneeling guy, I figure I'd need some of something. I use a couple of different kinds of putty. For this, I'll probably use greenstuff or this other two part epoxie putty I get from the Dollar store that is for radiator leaks. It's a brown two part, a bit stronger than gs, but more brittle and the price is right because it's...<drum roll>, that's right, a dollar. :tu: Anyway, just about anything would work, but because the arm will probably go through its fair share of "attention" it needs to be strengthened. Glad you like the pose. I fell in love with it when I saw it. The thing is, you can only really have one like that in your army...still, he cracks me up. StormDragon
I'm loving the pose of the plasma gunner. Honda
Ok, seems like a long time since I've been here. It's only been a week, but with all the stuff going on in Real Life , time just seems to be buzzing. So, Lot 1 is now complete, Lot 2 will kick off next week. This next slug of guys will comprise around 15 troopers of various configurations. I have all my flamers done, two or so powerfist vet sgts remaining, and still a bunch of bolter guys to go. That and the command squad. I took a little extra time on a few of them, just to add some interesting ideas that popped in for a visit. Plus I had some extra bits hanging around from termie exercise that looked like they just might work. Special weapons guys http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30054.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30052.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30051.jpg And now, some of the more interesting poses. This guy is supposed to look like the chainsword is resting on his shoulder or back pack. I may have to align the arm a little to make that work. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30049.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30050.jpg A grenadier http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30048.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30047.jpg "...and after I blow big holes in you, I'm going to add some smaller ones" http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30046.jpg Vet sgts http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30040.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30041.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Tacticals/DeathRainRun30042.jpg And a pose that I really liked. StormDragon
I have to agree about the termi helmet, it just doesn't do it for me, but if you like it... [shrugs] I'm also not to sure about the termi arms. They just look too long, I'm not sure if they actually are any longer or not. Marines are all out of proportion anyway and they just seem to exaggerate it. If you had some termi legs to use they might help to balance things out a bit more. I do like the one resting his chainsword on his shoulder, I might just have to "borrow" that pose  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/9/#findComment-1351836 Share on other sites
