WIP scrap/scratch built Khorne Dreadnought

Recommended Posts

Just read your thread from start to finish, Drawing me in like a novel, Started off really exciting seeing you come up with the design etc then BAM !!! tragedy strikes an its gone !! STOLEN no less, Now its back and still looking good, Hope its building up to a big climax

Great work mate

It lives, IT LIVES!

Welcome back Sir, may your mad creations inspire us all!

Yes, yes, I live. :P How have you been my friend? I have plans for some more projects, but all will be revealed when/if I get to them.

Thanks for all the positive feed back everyone, it really helps to keep me wanting to work on this. Especially after so long away from it.

Have been trying to get a small 40k army painted, so am not doing much on this at the moment. However, I finished painting a unit for the army, so as a treat to myself, I did a little more work on the dread. Just some work on the lower leg pneumatics at the rear. I think I will leave them as they are now, as I think if I try to do any more, I will just ruin it. I still have to add mounting rods for the shin guards to attach to.

Here's a pic of the rear pneumatics. All comments and criticism welcome. Sorry about the poor quality, I am stuck with using my phone camera :armata_PDT_07:

Small update.

I have added the heavy flamer to this arm, but not sure it looks right the way it is sitting. Have also changed the 'fingers' on the second DCCW again. Am now trying to decide whether I will just have blast shields along the fingers, or make pneumatics for them. Blast shields will look ok and are probably easier to make but I think pneumatics would fit the feel of the dread better. Any thoughts?

And here are a few pics of the dread blu-tac-ed together with a marine for size comparison.

Time for another small update I think. Have done a little more work to the chain fingers arm.

I have decided that the legs and torso are basically finished, except for GS and decorating. The arms are close to being done, just needing a bit of minor work, GS, and decorating. I don't want to be spending too much more time on this, as it has been on the go for over 2 years now.

I like Bladric! Especially the chainsword in the middle. Will you be adding Khorne icons all across it? It's nice to see this again after what happened to it and oyur friend's stuff earlier on.

I do approve of this model, though can't help but think this thread has been one of the more.. interesting threads that i've followed recently, even ever...

Do you have any thoughts about the base and decoration? Personally i'd love to see alot of brass trim on the edges of the armour plates, though it may end up crowding the model...

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not sure whether I will add more Khorne icons yet, or leave it until painting time. Will definitely be getting skulls and chains added. There will be trim added to the shoulders for certain, as well as fixing the trim on the shin guards (and maybe the finger guards also), when I get to GS-ing work.

At this stage, I haven't given too much thought to the base, as I still haven't decided what to do about finishing the dreads feet. At this stage, I am looking at removing the sprue from below the feet discs, and rebuilding them completely. I am considering doing something similar to the Forgeworld chaos dread feet, as I like the look of them a lot.

Hi Plaguelord. I've been reading thru this thread and I Have a lot of admiration for your dedication/skills/etc on this Dread, and as you seem to welcome criticism I thought I'd throw my thoughts in. Sorry if it seems like I'd like you to change everything

Please note that this is my opinions, and I really don't mean to put a damper on your project. It's your model, so do what you want with it (I said that more for my benefit then yours, I think )

Torso: In a word, love it (Ok, two then) I like it very much. However I must say It gives me the impression that it's some sort of demon-possessed vehicle, like a defiler, rather than a dreadnought, I think it's the 'smiling' helmet that does it. I can't really see what everyone thinks is so wrong with the pipes/las-cannons though?

Legs: I think this is the worst part in my eyes, not that they're bad, just not the best bit... The positioning is the where it all goes wrong I think, It looks like it's running, and since when have dreadnoughts run? I far preferred the positioning from when it had clawed feet, this made it look far more 'realistic'. I very much like the pistons though.

Arms:

Brilliant, sheer brilliance. They look like they've come straight out of GW or FW there're so 'realistic'. The saw arm, on the dread's right, looks like some sort of chainfist-like weapon, used for chopping thru tanks or large swaths of infantry. The Left arm on the other hand (get it?) looks like it's for picking up and 'squeezing' enemies before throwing them away, Much like on Dawn of war.

Over all:

If it was my dreadnought I'd reposition the legs to make it look like it was walking again, I think I'd be happy then. If you do keep it 'running' maybe moving the left leg down a tiny bit might make it look better.

And I do keep in mind this, "I have decided that the legs and torso are basically finished, except for GS and decorating. The arms are close to being done, just needing a bit of minor work, GS, and decorating. I don't want to be spending too much more time on this, as it has been on the go for over 2 years now." But hey, you did ask for criticism. ;)

Thanks for posting this on here, I've really enjoyed reading it. ;)

Like many others, I have just read this post from start to finish. I love the look of the dread, and I even like how he is running.

The only thing that truly bugs me is the flamer attachment. Maybe you could put it up under the top of the torso like the Grey Knight FW ones? That might look better.

This, and the Librarian Dread in the BA forum really make me wish I actually used the Dreads I have so I would feel inclined to work on them.

Keep up the awesome work

So, um... when will we have an update, or is this thread dead? :)

The project isn't dead, just had a lot of other stuff that I need to get finished. Which is being further hindered by the fact that I fractured three bones in my right wrist on the 15th of this month, resulting in surgery to have screws inserted to hold the bones together so they heal properly. Will probably be another 7 weeks (if not more) before I have the ability to do the fine detail work required to finish this off, as I had the surgery on the 29th. But I will certainly get back to this asap.

Finally have an update for this.

I have been working on the feet this time, and think I am finally happy with the direction I am heading with them, especially since they are mostly made from sprue, which is in keeping with the original idea of this project. There is still some final detail work I want to do with the feet, the raised one in particular, including adding some pneumatics to the underside of the raised foot. I have also added a guard plate under the torso and some cables to the arms. So without any further babbling, here are some pics of what I have done. As always, comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Close ups of the feet:

And the dread as a whole so far:

And the important size comparison shot, this time with an AoBR dread:

Wow, my first ever post back there is really stupid. I could smack myself.

But the model itself it looking really cool. Perhaps a little more armour on the upper legs would look better, but that's probably just personal opinion.

I admire your skills sir.

Ok, I read through this entire thread just now. When I got to the last page, looking at the dates I was beginning to get worried I would never see the feet :D

However, this project is quite amazing. I would gladly commission another one from you, but sadly I lack the money

Anyways, keep on making miniatures, no matter how long it takes :tu:

It's back and better than ever! :) Glad to see it's been fixed up and made better since the theft incident PB. My only niggle right now is the exhausts on the back since they look like lascannons are on its back to wipe out any unfortunate aerial units flying over it. maybe trimming down the nozzle on the end so it's not pointed will do the trick or shortening it?

Looking forward to seeing this machine of doom to be completed at some point in the future. :D
