The Vet can be bought in a blister with one of 6 different flag thingies(for his backpack) and another veteran.

Cool scout Grey Death. I've seen your wip thread on Dakkadakka. What are you going to do with the Storm Troopers? They might be able to work as scouts.

Hey all,

First, thank you for all of the kind words.

Local - I picked up the Vet on GW's US Online Store before the bitz ordering went the way of the dodo. I specifically picked out which models and arms I wanted instead of getting a random blister. Might have cost me a bit more, but knowing what I was getting was worth the extra cash.

Jabberwockey - I think the tip of the silencer's highlighting was washed out with the photo because it's not in focus. The highlight is about the same across the weapon.

snorkle - My troopers are sort of a one off squad. I bought them for a Skirmish 40k deal some friends and I were working on years ago. The game never saw much play time, and the troopers got maybe 3 battles in (unpainted of course >.>). I don't really plan on using them for this Army (colors are all wrong!) but possibly an =I='s acquired forces. Just have to get an Inquisitor built for something like that >.>.

always was a fan of the stuff on your site and this stuff is awsome!!! keep up the good work and maybe you should think about adding some red for the shoulder pads or something seeing as you painted the eye lenses and the bolter scopes red. (maybe change the trim to red on that shoulder.

It's been forever since I put some love into my marines. I get so sidetracked with all of the various modeling and painting projects I have going on, that it's really hard to focus on painting more power armor x.x....

But yesterday I found myself in the peculiar situation of not having anything 'new' on my plate while I sat around at work. So I pulled out the base coated veteran and decided to finally put some finishing touches on him. Anyway, here are the fruits of that labor:

Can you order it online or was it in a WD?

Apologies for off topic.

They seem to have stopped selling this vet which is a shame cos its my favourite one.

I like the colour scheme you've got going here Grey_Death. The camo on the scout looks great as well.

I stripped my old termie captain the other day. For some reason I wanted to repaint him.

He's still very WIP of course but his face is finished:

I have used termies in recent games and am really falling in love with what they can do for me in terms of disruption and tactical advantage. I might have to invest in some new plastics sometime soon so my guys don't look outdated and terrible.

Amazing! I'm especially attracted to the awesome glow of the power mace. How'd you do it?

Great job, Grey_Death. I am very impressed with your painting skills. I really like the depth you've given the grey.

And I was pleasantly surprised to see updates to this thread. I was following it for awhile before it drifted off into the oblivion that is beyond page 2.

Looking forward to more updates.

crusader - The mace is done with lots of thin thin layers of the following on a black base coat: Red Gore > Red Gore/Blood Red > Blood Red > Blood Red/Fiery Orange > Fiery Orange. The thinner the layer you can get the better. Be sure to let each layer dry and work your way out towards the tips and edges of the weapon. The final highlights can be bold but everything leading up to those you need to try and keep smooth.

Renn - It's nice to see people follow my work ;). I don't know how long I'll be working on marines this time around, I get so caught up with each new project I work on, that I forget about other projects x.x. Hopefully I can keep going with these guys at least on a one model in between other projects basis.

Finished my termie captain. I busted him out and painted him at work the other day. I spent all day on this guy x.x.. took far too long. But thems the breaks when you want your models to look nice.

I used him in a tournie yesterday. I got my ass kicked, but I did pull a draw in my second game (out of three).

Some things I did learn however:

scouts just don't cut it. So no more of them.

deepstrike is pretty awesome. so more of that

more mobility overall is pretty key.

I get a lot of comments on my power weapons.

What's funny is I sort of had to 'relearn' how to paint the powersword effect when I painted this guy x.x....it's been so long since I finished my Space Marine Vet that I really wasn't too sure how to go about it for the termie!

Some things I re-learned:

- Use lots of thin coats to build your colors up, but be prepared to bring them back down and smooth out with multiple glazes of dark colors. Hitting a blade that is too bright with red gore glaze then a chaos black glaze helps smooth everything out and give it the dark fade you see here.

- Use transition colors effectively. When you move from color to color, be sure to use a half and half mix of the last color and the next color to help aid the transition.

- The final highlight is fiery orange/skull white! I got to fiery orange and the color wasn't quite there x.x, so I hit it with the 50/50 and was back on target!
