Sword Bearers WIP

Looking nice thus far. Have you decided on a name for the scroll at the front?

Not too sure on the name yet. I can't decide between an actual name, a title (similar to rhino 1's 'courage') or a generic latin style name. Im going to think more on that over the next few days but it'll probably be the last thing to get done.

quick question about the airbrush and the tank..

with the red on your marines you overbrushed to leave the darker red in the recesses.. you done anything similar with the tank or is it just airbrushed mechrite, then airbrushed blood red? i need details! :P

i only ask because i need to add some vehicles to the orar at some point.. :P

Looks great, it inspiring me to finish my Flesh Teareers LRC. Are you using the foundation paints threw your air brush? I haven't tried to air brush them yet I worry they will gum it all up. I have a pretty decent badger airbrush so I'm a little gun shy.

Any rate great stuff keep up the good work...

Nice and clean coloring. How much time did you spend on the metals? And have you got a special recepie for it? :) They look just right, I'm about to color my new redeemer soon aswell.

The metals probably got about 3 hours of work on them. No magic recipe though, basecoat boltgun metal, highlight chainmail and edge highlight with mithril silver. Once that's done give it a layer of badab black wash.

I ended up not using mechrite on it, the pot I mixed with thinner went all gloopy and needed throwing away. I went with several thin coats of blood red, then shaded with watered down scorched brown.

The foundation paints should work, just thin them to the consistancy of milk. Use water to thin them though, as most airbrush thinners will probably react to the high pigment content and screw up your paint.

The 'courage' angle reminds me that I need to PM you and discuss some stuff. By the way, I'm still waiting for the fluff you promised me!

In other news, here's something you might find amusing:

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord Hector Rex, a giant of a man whom took command of the entire 88th Siege Army in the Siege of Vraks. Complete resin multipart figure and 3 figure retinue including an Astropath (Mystic), a Sword Bearer (Acolyte) and an Exorcist (Hierophant). Hector Rex model designed by Simon Egan, retinue models designed by Mark Bedford.

He's not quite as cool as he could be, though... :P

The fluff is coming, but it'll be after the Redeemer is done. I've discovered I can't write while i've got unfinished figures sat on my desk. :D

Pah, he's not a proper Sword Bearer, he hasn't even got a blade in that scabbard.... Forge World should be delivering mine any time soon, im looking forward to getting some paint on him thats for sure.

PM away, im at the computer all day friday so I should be able to get back to you pretty quick.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hmmm, no update in about a month. Time to fix that.

Seeing as I just finished the Redeemer (well, I say finished but I still need to do a multi-melta hatch) I figured it was time for some Terminators to ride in it.

I've got some GS work to do to each shoulder pad as I don't want a broken sword on there (pad from the DA sprue with the feathers cut off, see 2nd pic), and the ass cannon/heavy flamer have been magnetized. The heads haven't been glued in yet as there going to get a white undercoat and the honour shields on the left arms are having individual heraldry to make them a little more unique. Still got a few more purity seals and other bling to add but the basic form is ready to go.

Cheers guys. Hopefully i'll be able to make a start on the paint in the next day or so depending on spraying conditions.

I left my fuller comments over at the ammobunker but suffice to say that the Sword Bearers continue their steady march to greatness. ;) I'm still waiting for Ranon, though!

He's coming, im still at the point of deciding what to do with him. All I do know is that a relic blade and storm shield will be involved somewhere.

I wanted to get the terminators sprayed up on friday but the conditions are still crap, so I went into town and picked up a Dread to get started on.

So far i've got the weapons in the box magnetized, plus a FW twin heavy bolter. Over time im going to have every weapon option magnetized.

Quite pleased with this so far, hopefully i'll work on this in tandem with the Termies.

Looking good so far, keen to see more. :)

So am I mate, just waiting on a decent bit of weather to get some spraying done. I don't want to have a back log of unpainted stuff but I really need to get more ready for april and our little grudgematch. Might work up a Predator next.

The model looks good, and the torso on the base is cool. While I see you have all the option built and ready to switch, do you have a default weapon you use most of the time?

Up to a little while ago I always went with an assault cannon and CCW, though I think I might give twin heavy bolters a try.

Hah, don't feel too bad! I'm massively behind when it comes to Orks but give it time and there'll be a sudden burst of activity.

How many points do you have painted thus far?

Its winding me up something rotten. I just want to paint!

As for points -

Painted

10 man Tac squad - 230

missile launcher, plasma gun, power weapon, rhino.

10 man Tac Squad - 205

meltagun, plasma cannon, power fist.

10 man tac squad - 170

heavy bolter, flamer

Chaplain - 100

Land Raider Redeemer - 240

Painted total - 945

WIP

5 terminators - 235

ass cannon, 1 chainfist.

Dreadnought - 110

twin heavy bolter, CCW

Painted +WIP = 1290

All i can say is  .

This army is fantastic. I had tried the paint method you used before but i can never get blood red right when using a black basecoat even when using mechrite over the top of the black. However looking at this army makes me want to start painting again.

I'm assuming your using the DA shoulder pads from the Vet Squad box. I've got an unopened box of them if you'd like the shoulder pads from it.

Keep up the good work and look forward to more updates.
