BrotherAtrox
I figured this would be a decent "sample area" for a thread. Anyone from the Triad/Piedmont area. I.e. Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point and anything around them. Myself, Kernersville. Known game stores nearby: Hobbytown in Greensboro. The Castle in Greensboro. flintlocklaser
Cool, I live outside of Burlington - sorta nicely in the middle of the Triad and the Triangle. I've been to the Hobbytown you mention, do they have much in-store gaming? And give me another month or so (dumb family mini-crises) and I would be honored to set up a game with you! Talmon
The Hobbytown in greensboro you are referring to carrys very little GW now. It is my understanding that management changed at the store and the focus went towards RC. Marshal Argos
Isn't the Hobbit's game room next door? It's been years since I was there (6 to be exact) and I remember them talking about getting that space to make a game room. They used to have a great selection of mini's though. There used to be a gaming club on ran by some guys on the base over in the 313th, but I'm not sure if they still exist. There used to be another good store out the Reilly Gate on the left side just past Morganten Road... Don't remember the name of the store but the guy who ran it was named Clint. BrotherAtrox
A quick update on the statues of the Castle: the gentleman who runs the place has expressed a great interest in bringing in a bigger 40K crowd. Right now Sundays seem to be the popular day (the run a tournament about once a month, the next one being this coming Sunday) but if things pick up he would be happy to try and open Saturdays to accommodate more players. His only issue at the moment is a lack of terrain. He hasn't got much last time I checked. I'm currently working on trying to get some people in the community here to donate. As far as I can tell, this is the last legit shop in the triad area where people can sit down in a big open room to play some wargames so I can definitely see this guy getting our support. Also, there are plans for a website-based campaign for gamers in the "central" area of North Carolina. Once this gets rolling I would expect the Castle to be the hub of all the games in this area. Contact me for more details. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/133293-north-carolina-usa/#findComment-1699519 Share on other sites
flintlocklaser
Just saw this last update Br. Atrox, sounds cool. Here's an idea for the terrain problem - why not have the 'entry fee' for the campaign be one or two pieces of terrain? Nothing fancy (because if you want fancy I can't do it!), but if everyone in the campaign brought just a few bits of terrain for the store that could build up a 'library' of stuff pretty fast I'd think. Keep us updated here, I'd love to get in on this! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/133293-north-carolina-usa/#findComment-1712843 Share on other sites
BrotherAtrox
The terrain problem is slowly being fixed. He actually has a decent collection now - although it could use a bit more variety. I myself would like to see some snow terrain since in 7 years I've never fought on a snowy board. The campaign will probably wait until after the MACE convention, or even the holidays to get underway. This way we can get the word out and get people to go to the website of the gentleman who is organizing the campaign: http://cybertuna.blogspot.com/ Click on the fish to go to the forums. Its a good place to set up games. Talmon
Now on to the fun stuff. Our club has been considering for some time now hosting our own little Games Day to get people together for a day of crazy GW gaming. The time has come.... We will be hosting a day of gaming November 22nd (Saturday). It will be held in High Point, NC off of Kivett Drive and Highway 311 at a warehouse with 100,000 sq feet of space. Obviously, we will not use nearly this but it is to show that space is not a concern. Parking is not a concern either. Basically, the more people, the more gaming. Heck if we run out of tables we can play on the floor...hmmmmm....1,000 sq ft battlefield of minatures in each section.... Anyways, all GW gaming will be open. We will definitely have spaces for Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, Battlefleet Gothic, Blood Bowl, Mordheim, Aeronautica Imperialis and if you want to bring it we will have tables for Epic, Armageddon, Space Hulk, Necromunda and any others I may have missed. We will have tables available if you want to bring your painting and / or building projects to work on while conversing with fellow gamers. Mark it on your calendars. Gaming will be 12 hours worth. We will begin by 9:00 am and game all the way until 9:00 pm. Depending on numbers of gamers to tables we may run sign-up sheets to play at certain spots as the day goes. But it is an opportunity to meet, greet, play, win, lose, and generally have fun. I only ask if you are interested in gaming that you send me an email (whatadive@triad.rr.com) that you will be attending and what games you wish to play. We can start arranging games now. If this is a success we hope to continue this trend and have a few a year. Also, how can this be so great and free.... well there will be no prize support and the only cost that we ask for is (2) canned foods from each gamer that our gaming club (GameOnGW) will donate to a local food bank for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Let me know if you have any questions, concerns or comments. More details will follow.... again MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR NOV. 22. Hope to see you there, Bobby Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/133293-north-carolina-usa/#findComment-1738633 Share on other sites
BrotherAtrox
Howdy Triad folks. Just wanted to update everyone with the info on the next big Apocalypse game. Apocalyptic Castle-tacular Date: December 6th, 2008 Time: Deployment start at 12:00 NOON, try to be there around 11:00AM. One hour break for num nums at 4:30PM Location: The Castle - 5601 Roanne Way, Greensboro, NC 27409. Phone: (336)854-0505 -Its right next to Foreign Cars Italia 10 Players per side, more desired though. Last time we had 27! :o The factions represented in this game will be: Forces of the Imperium Space Marines Imperial Guard Inquisition Tau/Eldar Allies Enemies of the Imperium Chaos Space Marines Chaos Daemons Orks Dark Eldar Necrons Tyranids Tau/Eldar Allies Army Requirements Each player may bring an army of approximately 3000 points. However if you can't make 3000 feel free to bring your army anyway, that being said, players should be willing to cut certain parts if it is beneficial to keeping the sides even. As part of that force, each player may bring superheavy vehicles or gargantuan creatures. Please note that regardless of how many you bring, the balance of superheavies on each side will be maintained. Plan ahead in the event that you are asked to drop a Titan or something like that from your list. Allowed sources for army lists include current edition Warhammer 40K Codexes, Apocalypse, Apoc: Reload, plus any of the play aids from Bell of Lost Souls. Custom Apocalypse Legendary units and formations require the approval from the commanders of both factions. Commanders, Prizes, Minutia, etc. I will go ahead and volunteer for the role of Supreme Imperial Commander unless someone else really wants it. We still need a commander for the Losers...er...Enemies of the Imperium. Please contact me if you're up for the job. Commanders will each field one unit that must be listed as an HQ in their respective Codex. If this unit has the option of a retinue that is also allowed however the total must be no more than 300pts. For example you might take a Guard Senior Officer and a command squad. The individual commander model on each side will count as a Trophy Kill, and thus will be an objective if slain. This does not count against the Trophy Kill limit when considering Strategic Assets. Prize Options! When you arrive you will have the option of putting $5 into a Prize fund. The money will be pooled and at the end of the game each player will vote for who they viewed to be the MVP of their side. Everyone who played will be allowed to vote. Players must vote for someone who put in money. Players may not vote for themselves, humility is a virtue. The 2 MVPs will get the winnings, the winning side's MVP receiving 70%, the losing side receiving 30%. This money will be in-store credit on anything in the Castle, and anything you might want to order. All people who put in 5 bucks will receive a 10% discount on all in-store items, and a 15% discount on items ordered. Please note that pitching in the five dollars is completely optional. exetus
I know that we're a bit outside of the Traingle and to the south in Fayetteville, but every Saturday we play at the Hobbit in Fayetteville on Yadkin Rd. Gaming is from 1000-1600 except for the second Saturday of the month when it's from 1000-2300. There are gamers in 40k, Fantasy, BFG if we know in advance as well as the non-GW Flames of War. All new gamers are always welcome and you have a good spread of armies to play against. In 40k, off the top of my head: 1x Sisters 4-8x Space Marines of various chapters (BA, Ultras, SW, DA) 2x Chaos Daemons 2-3x Chaos Space Marines 2-3x Necron 2-3x Imperial Guard (to include a Chapter Approved Tank Company list) 3-4x Ork 2-3x Tau 1x DH 2-4x Eldar So a good variety and people who go from power-gamer to jsut being there to have a good time. BrotherAtrox
I just wanted to let everyone know that the Castle will be moving prior to the Apocalypse game on the 6th. However this will not affect our game. The new address is: 3714 Alliance Drive Suite 309 Greensboro NC 27407 I'm not sure what the space situation will be like in the new place, however I've been told that it has a bit more square-footage than the current store. That being said - anyone would be welcome to bring an extra table and terrain for use that day. This helped greatly during our last Apoc event here. Hope to see you all soon!
