@ Nadir, cheers dude. The scratches aren't just wear and year, some of them are meant to represent small arms fire. There are a few around the hatches, some have been hidden by weathering powders though. Ill make sure to out a few more around those areas next time though.

@ Token, no idea. They are basically copied from the heading on the pages of the codex. Not meant to spell anything in particular. It is named Tanngnjóster after one of the goats that pulled Thor's chariot.

Cheers everyone else, much appreciated.

Bit of a sneak peak this time.

OK guys, fresh off the table is my finished Wolf Lord... alright, maybe not 100% finished, the base needs to be completed (still no static grass) and I need to paint his cloak but it's turning into a right pain in the rear to get it ready for priming. So for the ETL vow he's WYSIWYG and finished.

Bjorn Stormwolf, leader of my great company and a darn sight beefier than the previous incarnation.

The skin is meh, but chances are I'll go back to that at a later stage.

So, 'Yay me!!'. Finally completed one of these vow thingies.

Suppose that means I need to pledge a new one :/

Threads like this just reinforce how suck-tastic my own work is http://image.bolterandchainsword.com//public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/laugh.gif !!

In all seriousness thank you for sharing. You work is amazing!!

Couldn't agree more. Thesr make me feel inadequate as a painter.

EXCELLENT WORK on the first vow. The blends are so incredibly soft... And also thank you for your contribution to the ETL challenge!

And then Njal... What can I say. No critique so far. I am yet again in awe of the blends. Maybe some day I'll get to that level, but probably not.

If you really want feedback then I'd suggest trying a subtle "glowing" effect on the runes, but that is the only improvement I can think of at the moment...

@ Puplord, yeah, I should experiment in OSL but I'm not sure I'd do it justice. That's certainly the reason I haven't tried NMM before.

@ Mav, cheers dude. Glad you find it so motivating.

@ Forte, thanks :D

Well, Njal is finished (apart from the base). He went from, IMO, the best painted wolf I had to one that I am massively disappointed with due to a varnishing disaster.

The varnish I applied misted up really badly, fortunately I was able to salvage the model on the whole by hand applying a gloss varnish. But it didn't solve the problem 100% and a lot of areas never got back to their previous best. The worst affected parts were the skull on the staff, the handle and the raven... But hey. I very rarely (as in, never) use him so I don't suppose it'll be a huge issue.

Still annoying though.

Anyhoo, here he is.

Thanks for looking. C&C appreciated as normal.

  • 2 years later...

Good evening brothers, I have begun awakening from a long slumber due to the tinkerings of the iron priests and it is time for a new chapter in this saga.

Fear not, the project is not dead although the speed is less than glacial :/

Recently been back to uni to train to be a teacher and am starting my first job in a week so time is incredibly limited (more so than before), couple that with the fact that I haven't played in a long while and when I did I played I would play as eldar and it's easy to see why my army stagnated. Well no longer... Ok maybe a bit longer...

Basically come up with an idea to include a unit or two of grey knights, only I don't want them to be grey knights. I want a space wolf unit that can represent them on the battlefield, enter the Jötunn. A unit unique to bjorn stormwolf's company and comprising of around a dozen warriors. These are his personal guard, his shadows, his titans on the battlefield. Drawn from all ranks of space wolf, specifically those that meet his demands for stoicism, bravery and fighting ability. More than that however, these are soldiers that have no desire to lead. To find a warrior who is happy simply to fight for his master and who harbours no loftier ambition than to slay in the name of his jarl is rare.

Some say bjorn is an astute leader, ensuring that those closest to him will not try to usurp his command.

These warriors are armed with a unique form of power armour that is able to vent super cooled gasses during combat to freeze an enemies limbs as they strike. Armed with mighty spears and axes they will stand against any who oppose them.

So, in English, they'll be armed with spears and axes (nemesis halberds), have engraved runes on their armour (aegis) and be able to vent super cooled gas from their armour in combat (holocaust). In appearance they will have bulkier armour than most of my marines and will be wearing helmets- that alone should set them apart. There should be 5 TDA models and 10 pea ones, the tad will have a banner and such like, probably with a wolf priest attached to represent the apothecary.

I've done some work on a helmet to see if it will work and have drawn up several designs which I shall post in the morning assuming I can find them (been moving house so everything is up in the air).

Anyways, I'd appreciate some advice or recommendations for fluff on this unit and of anyone has better ideas to represent different abilities if love to hear them.

Apologies for the length of this post as well as the time between updates, for Russ and the all father *howwwwllllll*

Welcome back brother ! A place at the hearth awaits all true sons of Russ who return to the Aett no matter how long their absence msn-wink.gif Looking forward to your work on the Jötunn and your continued inspiring work in general, and from someone who also works in education best of luck with teaching the whelps thumbsup.gif

ok, well here's some shots which hopefully give an indication of the style of helmet I am making for these guys... also shows a trimmed down board that I have for inspiration/ideas. There are several sheets of runes on there which have mostly had packs written next to them or been pre-assigned to characters (for instance the LF pack is sporting the rune Ken which among other things symbolizes controlled fire and will).

The three sketched helemts are based on a mix of fantasy dwarf and viking themed helms which I will try to adapt to fit a marine helmet. You can also see some of the other potos I've used for ideas.

If you guys find any interesting ones feel free to post them here :D

As always, LYLT people :D

Ok so a test piece for the helmet turned out ok... just ordered a couple of boxes from GW so I will shortly be in possession of a tactical squad and grey knight strike squad which should provide all the pieces I need for the base models of my Jotnar PA unit.

Still needs a small amount of tidying up but mostly done.
