Jokersminis
This is an excellent thread. The skill progression is both apparent and impressive. Vadskær
Thanks Guys! Glad you like him. I wanted to show a grizzled and worn DW Knight, who's just trained his weapon on the swooping Hellion diving in for the kill. The base is obviously only temporary, as I've yet to decide on a scenic base. I'm off on 5 days vacation, sadly without any painting opportunities. Next weekend should be exciting with all the upcoming Space Marine releases - I'm glad my B-day is coming up next month! Cheers. /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3435116 Share on other sites
Urauloth
That BA terminator/wyches diorama is amazing. What did you use for the armour on your blood angels? It's a really nice rich red. Vadskær
Thanks Ghost! :-) The deep red is based on the following: Undercoat Chaos Black Basecoat Red Gore 2 thinned layers of 1:1 Red Gore & Mechrite Red 2 thinned layers of 1:1 Red Gore & Blood Red After that, shading and highlighting! /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3435660 Share on other sites
Vadskær
STOP PRESS! As I've just re-located for five relaxing days of vacation in a beautiful sea-side country house with the Missus I got the idea of a little hobby challenge. Now, everybody who's been following my ongoing work will of course have noticed that my output-rate is somewhat slow! Therefore, I'll try the following: Use the next couple of days to enjoy assembling these fellows: http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/m2250093a_99120101091_ThunderWolfCav01_873x627_zpsccd420c1.jpg And then paint all three of them in 7 days, with only 2 daily hours of painting! It'll be quite interesting to see how I will cope with the allocated time how well I can paint them. Also, it let's me try out some new colours and new heraldrics that I haven't done before. Ideas, comments, thoughts?Cheers! /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3436025 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
Nice idea. I have a question: Are you going to paint them in blue-grey as seen in the picture or the darker grey as seen in most SW artwork? Vadskær
Nice idea. I have a question: Are you going to paint them in blue-grey as seen in the picture or the darker grey as seen in most SW artwork? I haven't really decided, but I'm inclined to go for the blue-grey that 'Eavy Metal paints, such as shown below. I think that colour will complement and contrast the more grayish or brownish tones of the wolves hides. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/m2250189a_99800101022_ArjacRockfistCFC02_873x627_zpsbefd67fb.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3436897 Share on other sites
Urauloth
Do you plan on using the new citadel paints for this? I'm curious because I've hardly seen anyone paint space wolves with them. Vadskær
Do you plan on using the new citadel paints for this? I'm curious because I've hardly seen anyone paint space wolves with them. For the most part no. I have a few of the new paints, bought to replace my existing old ones - i.e. black, white and bone-white. But the new paints should do the job okay, if you just approach them in the same way as the old ones - by keeping them thinned and mixing with care. /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3437679 Share on other sites
Vadskær
I'm BACK! After waaaay too long, I've got some new baubles to show you :-) The quick-paint project on the Space Wolves didn't turn out well. Seems that speed-painting just doesn't suit me. First off, I have a Blood Angels Assault Captain to show you - based on one of the new Finecast SM characters. The sculpt wasn't mind blasting, and I tried to correct the most flaws, but there's a few left that I didn't bother to fix. The base is an old GW one, from one of their basing kits. Let me know what you think of him. I like the colour composition, even if this isn't my very best work. /vadskær http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3672_zps5943c3ff.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3678_zpsa3147591.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3680_zps7d6ffb9d.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3683_zpsf5725df8.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3689_zps5e7598f7.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3531750 Share on other sites

PorridgeMeister
even if this isn't my very best work. How did I know, upon seeing that, that the mini that would follow would be instantly better than anything my meagre hands could ever produce? *Porridge goes away and kills himself out of shame, for his geneseed is not that of Vadskaer, and he shall never paint NMM effect.* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3532257 Share on other sites
BrotherCaptainArkhan
Such deep. Much red. Very colour. Wow. (Anaziel's post triggered the above meme reference, sorry)Awesome plog. I've really enjoyed reading through this and seeing your work. That red is outstanding, and whilst you may not be 100% pleased with the overall miniature, it bodes really well for any red-armoured minis you're going to do in the future. Would love to see you tackle some Blood Ravens, the colour balance with that red shade would be really pleasing to the eye. Vadskær
Wow, amazing deep red colour and gold Thanks a lot Anaziel :-) The red is quite simple. Over a black undercoat I paint a couple of thin layers of Scab Red/Khorne Red followed by a couple of layers of 1:1 Mechrite Red & Red Gore. The last trick is to paint a couple of layers of 1:1 Red Gore & Blood Red. Voila :-) The gold trick is to paint Scorched Brown over a black undercoat, followed by two thin layers of 1:1 Scorched Brown & Shining Gold. Next is to layer on Shining Gold in thin layers and build up the colour. The trick here is to get the underlying colours to enrich the other layers and so create a more "deep" and full colour. /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3532259 Share on other sites

Well, compared to some of the stuff I've done before, and will show in the following posts, I really think that this mini isn't the best of the lot. Maybe it has something to do with the face, which is the focal point. I might try to do a swap for a helmet, and see how that turns out. Stay tuned :-) /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3532266 Share on other sites

I really like painting red, even though I'm a Dark Angels fan. However, I like the opportunities the red gives med in terms of shading, highlighting, complementing colours and the like. I've never painted a Blood Raven yet - do you have something in particular in mind with regards to what model you think would be ideal? /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3532270 Share on other sites
Vadskær
Hey Guys, To top of all the very kind comments and answers this morning, here's something quite different, and something that I'm immensely more satisfied with than the Blood Angel above. Here's my take on an Ultramarine Sternguard Veteran Sergeant from the new SG box. I really like the quality of the sculpts and the many, many options. It was a blast to paint, and more UM veterans will definitely follow :-) Enjoy, and have at it! /vadskær http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3654_zpsff19ff4d.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3661_zpsc5f38e6c.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3665_zps1946210b.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3669_zps82091057.jpg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3657_zpsa8d33054.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3532276 Share on other sites

That said, I wish i had the skill to paint like that, Maybe in a few years haha!! Oh my that Ultra, Looks amazing mate! Love the eyes Draws me into it then i see the amazing Gorget? Collar? (not sure on the name!) you've done! Keep them coming mate! Marshal Reinhard
Well there's those of us that are beginners, there are some who are decent, there's some that are really really good, then there is Vadskaer who runs his own league. I think you passed the point where I am at a loss for words a couple of light years ago... Vadskær
@ Reinhard, Darth Potato & Olisredan: Thank you very much for your kind, kind comments! Glad you like my work. I'm currently busy painting up a helmet for the Blood Angels Veteran, and will hopefully have it done later this evening or tomorrow. Photobucket is acting up, so I can't show you anything new right now. As soon it's up and running again, there's more stuff to show. /vadskær Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164659-vadsk%C3%A6rs-marines/page/27/#findComment-3533121 Share on other sites
